Title: Helmet headphones thumbs up
Post by: Justo on July 27, 2010, 02:45:11 AM
So i ride everyday. 50 odd kms. not far. but enough to get bored of listening to the dammed traffic, trucks and sydney hustle bustle or nothing at all. Even the termis can get, dare i say it, a little monotenous. So I squigg the headphones in, but my ipod ones always fall out and give me bloody sore ears. So ive been hunting around for an alternate for sometime, read the forums, researched to buggery. The moulded ones while nice are bloody exxy. So this led me to the Tork Xpro's.

They arrived today. Installed them into the shoe in a jiffy. So, so, so, so comfy unlike the ipod plugs that ive struggled with for sometime. Great bassy sound for little speakers, volume control and best of all dont fall out. Anyway, if your after some good headfones, these get my nod of approval. thought I'd share this experience with ya'll.

And only US$90 delivered. Booya!!!

They sound and look pretty good.
My listening things died a little while back and yep the OEM Apple ear phones are not great at all.
And really the things I had were not really comfy either. Something flush mounted in your helmet sounds
like the way to go.

I've just gone and had a look at these again after riding close to 500k's yesterday.
I'm guessing the only way you can order them is by calling?
Can't see any online ordering on the website or did you email them and sort it out via paypal.

Lemme know if you are ordering some Matty, I'll pile on and we can split shipping. I've tried so many different headphones for riding already, may as well add this to my collection.

i have been using these for a few years, and they work well. similar product to the OP's link, and about half the price too!

cheers!

Thanks Herm will take a look at them also.
Do you use them while wearing ear plugs or would that be a silly comment?

And yep Craig I'll keep you posted.

I've been using Bassmonster helmet speakers for the past 5 years and the speakers have been recessed into the foam of the cheek pads.

I also use an amplifier so I can still hear the music while wearing earplugs.

Sorry for the delay. Some of us have work to do.  [roll]

I bought them straight from here. Shipping was $10.

Ive just resoldered the wires, after reducing the length, so they are always in the helmet. The plug is now sitting inside the cheak pad. Without the ghastly leed hanging out making my helmet look like a tampon string is hanging out. haha. sorry probably too graphic. But you get the drift.

I can Sennheiser to the list of headphones that don't work/break quickly. has a L shaped input jack, snaps right off. Asymmetric lengths of line so one can go round your neck, stupid.

I had some very good ones before that...they had replaceable end caps on little stalks...and one of the end caps was a mould-able ear plug, block out some engine noise, great sound. stalk snapped off..non replaceable...there goes $200 bucks!

still trying to work out my next pair.

symmetrical lines
straight line in

www.headphones.com.au (//http://) have a great range. i currently use "hifi man re0's" and they have done very well so far. some of the best sounding in ear headphones around and they are short enough to put a helmet on over them with a little practice.

If all else fails you could get one of these! Comes with built in replaceable speakers & mic, replaceable liner, video camera, light for night riding, some knobs to play with while sitting at the lights & only weighs about 10kg  lol

Heather - just out of curiosity - how much did your ear moulds cost?

Looking at grabbing some soon.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Perhaps THESE GUYS (http://www.earmold.com.au/)?

They cost me $180 for an set with the wires and iPod connector about 4 years ago.  You usually find them at bike shows like the one coming up on the 19th Sep.

I have steered away from helmet hphones, as for me its less about the music and more about the reduction of wind noise (so I can hear the music and my exhausts!)

Earmould Australia are reputable. Their music monitors are used in musician circles.

The people who do things like Heathers are also good, but perhaps a little less lo-fi, but still perfectly capable. A note with these ones, they have the electronic remote from the ear moult, connected by an air tube - you may get some induced win noise with these.

a lot of people aslso rate these people: http://www.etymotic.com/ (http://www.etymotic.com/)

you can also try Shure, which are a well known supplier in pro circles.

good tips from spider as well..

update:

sony ($40) from JB....useless, poor range of silicon sleeves which really do hold them in and also silence the wind/bike a bit, save the ears

then...

Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 Noise Isolating Earphones - started shorting out within 2 months - by now Amazon is full of people noting the problem.

so....I might try Goldies place....anyone got anything great lately???

Late last year I took the big step and got some ear mould Australia custom made plugs with music option.
After piss farting around with other options these things are just the business.
Once I got the Heather tip of passing the wires behind you rather than in front and keep the tubes tucked as much as possible to eliminate further wind noise you're set.
