Title: boots can someone help me out here
Post by: jonnyconcrete on July 27, 2010, 05:39:12 AM
i bought a set of motorcross boots because i liked the look / style and meatiness of them
but when i wear them its like my legs are in a caliper. By that i mean the boots just dont give at all
allowing any sort of natural foot bend. The boots in question are like these

My question to you guys is with age do these type of boots give a little or get easier to wear ?
because right now it almost feels like robotic movement when i change gear or rear brake ect
is this the sort of boot that needs months to wear in and its me being picky ?

They're probably good for motocross, but it sounds as if you're trying to do a different style of riding with them. I'm guessing street rather than motocross.

According to the write-up at your link, they're all about stiffness and support, so by my reading they're not supposed to become more flexible with age.

Maybe some sort of street boots might meet your needs better?

^^^ Yeah. MX boots are all about support and being stiff. Think of them more like ski boots. They are designed for riding on tall seated bikes, where the rider will also be standing on the pegs a lot, and using their stuck out leg in turns. So, with those concerns in mind, they take lengths to protect the ankle and foot. Yeah, they might get a bit more flexible over time - but they are never going to be like a sport boot.

If you would tell us if you are trying to us these MX boots for street use or MX use then we could better advise you.

They will loosen up a little, but remain stiff. Another problem is the height from the bottom of the sole to the top of the toe box. Makes it hard to brake and shift.

I don't think they are good to ride the street in.

They may compromise your ability to operate the gear shifter and the foot brake in a proper and needed manner.

If possible I would get a good pair of street riding boots soon.
