My 696 is only about 700 miles in and the kickstand is looking like it has been on for 20k miles. I believe that my boot when shifting rubs on the kickstand which has stripped a good percentage of the paint away and it looks like crap. This is quite annoying on a brand new bike, and only really leaves me with 2 options - powdercoat the stocker or buy a new stand. The only problem is that the bike is my daily transport which means I can't go a week with no kickstand while it gets powdercoated. What are the best kickstands for the 696, if any at all.
Sorry to ask, but I'm new to the Ducati world so I am still trying to locate retailers & better understand brands.
hmmm..... I put 8000kms on my 696 and the sidestand still had all of its paint ???
You could contact Mark and see if he's doing a cool replacement for your bike too >> http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=39792.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=39792.0)
Hrm, that's interesting. I just have to wonder why paint a kickstand instead of powdercoat it? PC is a much better solution for something like that. I'll try to take a pic later so you can see what I am looking at.
Thanks for the link I'll check it out.

Or look on ebay there are a couple guys parting 696's
Here's the bastard kickstand, not even quite 700 miles yet. Sorry for the quality, photo was taken on my phone at 1:45am when I got to work today.

You could also look into the cost of having it powder-coated or anodized.
wow, hmmm where are you feet when you ride? i dont think i ever rubbed my stand while riding.
I got on the bike in the parking lot and had my wife observe, and she said my feet never come close to the kickstand when shifting up or down. That tells me that its just really shitty paint and road debris has caused all of that. That really blows, this is a brand new bike. Oh well I guess, that's one more thing to upgrade. It is a rather minor thing compared to the rest of the awesomeness that the monster is made of.
how about how you are putting the kickstand down? what kind of boots are you using?
could be you are rubbing down the kickstand as you are putting it down from on the bike?
i tend to lower it from the end not from the middle.
My size 12 (US) foot in Alpinestars boots can't get to the middle since the peg and shifter are in the way, so I snag the end to get it down.
when the kickstand is up. is that the bottom of it or the top? it's just strange the pattern on that.
I grab the 'foot' as far as i know most of the time, it's the easiest part to snag when bringing the stand down.
