Title: tossed the RS
Post by: Statler on July 28, 2010, 03:07:37 PM
couple people have PMd because they heard, so I figure I should post here.

I lowsided the s4rs up in New Hampshire at the track.  The 'bowl' if anyone has ridden NHMS.

mostly cosmetic on the bike... left Sato rearset ground down but took the brunt.  speedymoto waterpump housing took a long slide and held up.   No leaks anywhere.

The very deep gravel trap caused lots of rashed paint on half of tank and tail, but exhaust escaped unharmed.   One cyclecat barend rashed down.

Nothing else bent or unuseable.  swingarm gravel rashed.  Looks like bike stayed on left and rotated to enter the gravel backwards.

I hit hard on left, tumbled once or twice (don't remember one or two but I did roll), and then slid on my back for what seamed like forever before stopping in the gravel a bit off the track.

left hand pretty colors but nothing broken.   bruises showing up today on both hips and upper arms.

teknic one-piece held up well.  Nothing split.  left arm zipper broke but stayed zipped together.   extra long Marsee race gloves stayed well put and took a big beating in the slide...a big thanks to Marsee for them.   sidi boots no problems.

I was shaken (haven't crashed since 1989) but the guys all convinced me to go back out.   I borrowed G's 620 (we were in different groups) for two sessions and it was just what I needed.   I pulled in early after I started to get held up in B group in some corners by guys on bigger bikes... don't care if they did it on purpose for me to feel good or if they were the slowest of the B group....it made my head right regardless.    so... tired and sore I called it quits a session early.

I'll ride the bike down for an event soon.

Yep.  As stated in the pm, with the exception of bruises everyone seems to be ok.  And that's what counts.   [thumbsup]

bike = replaceable....a Statler on the other hand...not so much!...glad you are okay and if you need a hand wrenchin...you know you can call on me!

so is the order of the day to make the RS a track only bike or to find something else to be the dedicated track machine once the repairs are done?

Glad to hear the full report and that you're ok - saw that you had an off on the DIMBY report.  Parts are replaceable, people aren't - glad to hear the gear did its job.

picking up a 748 from Mike.  shit, now that's three Ducs.  It's like a desease.

I suppose the trackbike buy is coming a few days too late....but oh well...we'll paint the RS something cool and it'll be better than new.

hmmm...I bet the BSTs bolt up to the 748... wonder how light we can get it... <gets slapped on back of head by G>

oh...G's 620 with the clipons, rearsets, and high pipes made a great little trackbike.

Chris,
Sorry to read about your low side.  Glad to hear the damage to you and bike are cosmetic.

So you scratch your bike and get a 748.

after the 11 hour drive to hang out with the drunken ruffians burning things down at the farm, camping on an air mattress in the back of the explorer, the too-fast street ride where she went pillion on the RS, the track day where she rode her 620 hard and then let me borrow it after I binned mine, the eleven hour drive home, and..oh yeah, she's hot and makes a lot of money.

so...er....yeah.... what else would I do?
;D ;D ;D

Just how does a conversation like that work?

" Honey, if I had another bike that would not happen."

Enlighten me. Please

yup...if we spend another 3 grand or so, we won't have to ever spend a grand fixing the streetbike.... (but say the math fast before anyone catches on)

but more eloquently phrased...

and some blathering about being able to ride it even harder and closer to one's own abilities...

and some happiness crap thrown in...

alcohol helps...

should the four of us go have dinner and drinks?   think G could convince your wife of how practical it all is?

Ok, since you are not giving up the hypnotism info, why don't you come out on sunday and prove that you tossed the RS?

Here's G's 620 after the new exhaust and rearsets and clipons.  better pics with no watermark soon.

perhaps some pics with me on it same day...don't know yet as they're not up.  Don't think there's any of me wrecking my bike but again...I'll post what I get good or bad.   ;D
