I am traveling to Sacramento tomorrow to check on some jackets. Cyclegear and possibly motowheels. I am looking for a leather jacket, probably perforated that I could wear with a windproof aftermarket liner (maybe Knox) when colder. My dilemma is my size. I am 5'8 and 215 pounds. I am broad in the shoulders and barrel chested. I have a Cortech Xl/46 textile jacket now but is a little baggy on me in the stomach area. I know leather is more fitting but the Dianese size chart puts my chest size 46 in the same category as someone that is over 6 feet tall.
Any suggestions on a particular jacket or cut for my size. I am trying to get away from the total race look but still want full protection. I like the Laguna Seca models but they don't zip to pants. I already have some cortech pants.
The newer Laguna Seca jackets do have pants zippers, but either would need to be modified for the cortech pants compatibility. I have a laguna seca jacket, and their sizing is generous in the midsection, so you may be able to fit into a smaller size. Motowheels should have a good selection of styles to try.
Try the Joe Rocket Speedmaster series. I have one and I love it. My advise is to get the tightest size you can get to fit. I am shaped like you, 6' 230 lbs. i got a 44 to fit without the liner so i bought it. after about a month of riding the leather stretched out enough that the jacket fits absolutely perfect with the liner in and has a little extra airflow on the warmer days when i'm not wearing the liner.
Perhaps the Air Pelle?
Try stuff on though - I've found that there's a good bit ov variation in the Dainese line fit. I've got a 56 Santa Monica that fits perfectly. A 56 Air2 that's pretty snug especially in the arms. I had a 56 shotgun that I just sent back for a 54.
I'm 6'5", 245 and wear a Dainese size 60.
Fit is just right.
I can wear a stand alone Back Protector w, the Dainese Jackets .
Dolph :)
I ended up picking up a Mugello from Cyclegear (replaced Laguna Seca according to the store) and a G2 back protector. I ended up getting a 44 as the 46's sleeves were too long and the jacket creeped up the back of my neck with the color. It seems pretty flexible as it is a stretchy material in the torso sides and inner arms and leather everywhere else. It was a little snug in the chest but was advised it would stretch with time. I am not used to the button snap collar either so hopefully that softens up soon.
I was a little hesitant to buy but was told Cyclegear has a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The sales person told me that I could bring it back anytime if I did not like it with the exception of crashing in it.
Cycle gear is good like that. I got my Shotgunfrom them and had worn it. When I sent it back there was no fuss or questions
I am second guessing my decision a little. I am wondering if I should have not upgraded to something with the bubble liner, but still perforated, for more of an 3 season jacket. I was trying to spend as little as possible. It can get into the 100's here during the summer but 40's at night during the fall and spring, I don't ride colder than that as I have a half hour commute and get off work typically at 1 am.
I kept trying on my textile jacket (Cortech HRX 2) and comparing it to my leather jacket. There is definitely a range of motion penalty with the leather. I guess I just need to ride and see how it breaks in.
Here is the windstopper I was looking at. I do not know how much room in the jacket it will take though.

UPDATE
After putting the jacket on and sitting on the bike in a riding position, I think the jacket will be too tight. There is enough give in the stretch fabric that I don't think the leather in the arms will stretch enough. It seems to pinch my arms now so that is probably not good.
Not familiar with California's geography, but if SF isn't too far from Sacramento, I believe the D-Store is starting their bi-annual blowout sale on Aug. 7th, might be a good time to check stuff out.
