What ever else it may be, the new zx-10 certainly doesn't have a conventional inline 4 under the hood. Cross-plane crank or even maybe a v-4.... ;D
Have a listen and you decide.

Sounds sexy. [thumbsup]
I read about it recently in the August 2010 issue of Cycle World in the Round Up section. It's not a V-4. It's an inline four "big bang" motor "with a 540 degree, no-fire zone in it's 720 degree cycle". It's different from Yammyhammer's cross plane motor. The weird firing order should provide the same sort of drivabilty/traction gains that the R1 has.

And apparently an internal electric motor that maintains crank momentum at idle & lower RPMs (instead of a heavy crank or flywheel) since there's such a long pause between firings. :o

Now that is whacky and cool. Is it a single "dead zone" or is it broken up at all?

from the description, i'm assuming a single 540° deadzone with all cylinders firing in the remaining 180°.
Me too. It will be interesting to see if they step up to the plate and actually field a team to support the bike and get the riders who can get some podiums on it. Their past says no. I hope they take it seriously. [thumbsup] [moto]
That's going to be hard on the trans and clutch, I'm assuming they're beefed up.
Heavier....
Interesting whine. Gear-driven cams?

I know, why do I keep bringing this up?
Well, my first bike was a KZ, I have always had a KZ since I got my license and I have had as many as 5 KZs at one time.
Yes, I am a Kawasaki fan and I would like to see them competitive in WSBK (and all others).
There, I said it.

j/k...actually looks decent.
Kawaski for some reason is always considered as whatever brand for some reason,

I guess we'll see in serious launch how real this machine is in a couple of months...
Here's some poop on the new ZX-10R...

I thought they had found a way to put some lightening holes in the frame to make it more competitive.
;D
Oops! Looks like a MAJOR recall on the new ZX-10R! Recalling all unsold bikes and offering a full refund for any sold bikes. That doesn't sound good. Like you just can't bring it back to the dealer for the "fix"?? Your option is a full refund. Jeepers, that's serious shit.

Wonder if my local Kawi/Suzook shop sold the new one they let me roll out. Just happened to be visiting the other week when they finished assembling the first one and they let me roll it onto the showroom floor. Got to sit on it and really liked the feel of it. Seemed small like a 600. It was a black one which made it look smaller. Liked the zero graphics on the black one and the mirrors are mounted lower on the upper fairing which really improved the rear view.
Wonder what the recall problem is. Must be a big one! [bang]
Perhaps has a similar problem to Pedrosa's Honda. :-X
OK, being the bottom feeder/mouth breather that I am I am missing what is an obvious reference to Pedrobot and his Honda. Help the helpless with an explanation. ;D Thanks! [thumbsup]
Puig: "Dani, we've updated the software for the 'fly by wire' throttle, go try it out.'
Pedrosa: "OK, dad."

Pics like that are always my favorite Pedrobot pics. Sorry, don't mean him any actual physical harm. Just saying. ;D

So they did this complete recall of unsold units, and bought all sold units back for a full refund...
According to Kawasaki engineers, the problem with the ZX-10R arose when they found a "possible surging of the intake valve spring when the unit is operated under unique riding conditions, such as on a racetrack. The surge could cause the intake valve to seat improperly, resulting in poor engine performance."because the bike might become a dog on the track?
That's pretty extreme, isn't it? Of course there may be a special Japanese definition of poor engine performance I'm not aware of.
I'm not buying. ;)
does sound like, uh, marketing.
however they REALLY need this bike to perform from day 1 or they might as well stop making 1000cc sport bikes.
Hey you sheep!!
Back in your pen!

This could be a fuzz phrase for "the valves hit the pistons" when you miss a shift... or something

Kinda late for a first impression...no? I mean they already released, sold, and then recalled/repurchased all of them.
Seems like they closed the barn door after the cow got out.
I hope they catch her.
Yes, the valve may seat improperly.... especially after the spring breaks and the piston crunches the valve. [roll]
Surge in a valve spring is really bad for 'em.
Guess what's the cover bike on the issue of Motor Cyclist magazine that arrived in my mailbox today, with typically hyperbolic advertising editorial headlines? Some days it must really, really suck to be a magazine editor.
I got mine today too and thought the same thing. Oops! [bang] I hate it when Kawi makes you look stupid! ;D
