Stopped by the book store as part of lunch and noticed the Desmo RR and 1098R smacked on the cover of the new Robb Report. Though I only had time to skim the article, they took the two of them to the track and had some fun.
A little more thumbing and I found a 5-6 page 'special advertising section' from Ducati Dynamic Driving splattered with HMT pron.
Last in my quick skimming - I found a Nationwide Insurance ad with an illustration of a 1098 head on - though they colored it some khaki tan... bleh.
It's a good issue. I'll leave it out on the coffee table next time you're up for margaritas.
There's an article in the latest Car and Driver, too, on the Desmosedici RR. C/D NEVER reports on motorcycles!
I guess our little secret's out [cheeky]

With good reason - car mags never do bikes justice, and the readership doesn't know the difference between a Vespa and a Ducati anyway.

I didn't say I bought it ;) I said I thumb through it like it was at the library

Wait... There's a difference?!?
Just surfing for new goodies and saw the Duc in the ad for the new MacBook Pro.

We prefer the term "oppressors of the proletariat". ;D
I have subscriptions to RR (6 years worth in my library) and RRMC (every issue since they began). I like to keep on top of things in the world of conspicuous consumption and wretched excess, hehe. RRMC is a nice "light" moto mag, they are much more down to earth (do I care about spring rates and damping mechanisms in the front forks on bike blank?) and they are mature and sensible in their writing and reviews (cough Motorcyclist cough)
The wife got that mag for me last week.
I tend to hate that kind of coverage. It's like"Men's Health" or "GQ" saying it's a good fashion accessory. Like the guy who's thumbing through the Robb Report will be asking himself "what Italian bike goes well with my Bvlgari chronograph?"
Yuk.
Nice pics. But a weird way to read about these bikes.
If you go back through the threads I started one about the Robb Report MotorCycling ( June- July )issue about a week and a half ago. It's an awesome issue w/ the Desmo and 1098R on a private track in Nevada. Best pictures and article I've read anywhere.
RR is just Cosmo for men. I flicked through it at the magazine stand and noticed that I got to the first "article" after turning 61 pages (!) of ads. Crap through and through.

It's an upscale bike magazine...did you read the article about the Desmo and the 1098R jousting on the track ? It was the one article that I have read where there was nothing negative said about the 1098R . Basically a very positive upbeat article that I felt wasn't biased like " everybody's favorite " GSX-R1000 that seems to win the hearts of every rider in Cycle World. Can that bike really be all CW says it is ???
If that d16 vs. 1098R report had been in another magazine people would have been raving about it.
Seeing how the rider is such a huge part of the equation, all bike articles should be taken as subjective opinion anyway....ever read the ones where several riders ride several bikes and they are not all fasted on the same bike?
Just like how everyone likes something different in bikes, everyone likes something different in what they prefer to read about bikes. That doesn't make one suck, it's just personal preference.
I persoanlly like EVO for car stuff best. Some great tech, but some of my favorites are just great cars on a journey stories. I haven't found anything close for motorcycles.
My favorite line-
"ludicrous power" ;D
