Title: Really Bumming!!!!!!
Post by: hOBzZ1 on June 07, 2008, 09:25:36 PM
I am bumming so bad right now!  My new monster 696 was scheduled for its 600 mile tune up and then night before I was going to take it in I got clipped.  The F'n driver slammed on his breaks and then swerved right into my lane taking out my front wheel and tossing me over the handle bars face 1st into the pavement!  Thank god I had my helmet and body armor on!!!  I still managed to break 3 ribs and my foot is pretty messed up right now.  Amen for pain killers because this is about the worst pain I think I've ever been in!  This crash further testified to me that the proper gear can be the difference between life or death.  The bike surprisingly didn't get too damaged, all that happened was the clutch lever broke, handle bars are bent, minor scratches to my Termignoni pipes and thats about it.  The worst part about it is, ROT is coming up and I doubt me or the bike will be out that soon  :-\  I cant wait for everything to get repaired!

Lets get the boys together and 'round up the posse.

I'll bet he wont be so smug after he's dragged face first behind a couple of bikes for a few miles...

Did the guy stop?

Ya luckily he stopped!  The idiot kept changing his story after the police arrived but lucky for me he told them the truth the 1st time the police took his statement.  The kid had the nerve to come up to me and say "I'll go halfers with you the cost of repairs" I almost punched him in the.  Lucky for him I couldnt raise my arm and it was hard to breath.  He even had the nerve to start talking $h!t to me right in front of the cop!  O'well I'm sure karma will come around and give this @$$hole a taste of his own medicine!

Thanks for the well wishes, I can't wait get back on my bike!

Sorry to hear about this.

So what was his story. Any reason why he slammed on his brakes and went into your lane  ???

There was a car in front of him that was making a right into a shopping plaza and he didn't want to slow down.  He said he didn't see me but I think he was just in too big of a hurry and didn't take a good luck before coming over.

Man you have my deepest sympathies . I know what you are going through. I had a crash on 4/5 and broke 4 right side ribs , punctured my right lung and sprained both ankles and had alot of soft tissue damage. It was the worst pain I ever had, even worse than kidney stone attacks , I screamed for an hour and a half in the emergency room while they moved me around taking CT Scans and X-Rays while I was strapped to a rock hard fiberglass board and no pain medication from the time I crashed  probably 2 and 1/2 hours from the time the squad found me out in the hills . They were originally going to life flight me but no I was put on the board and my neck was immobilized and then the straps where cinched up so tight I couldn't move a muscle and I was that way for at least 3 hours until a radiologist could be found (4/5 was a Saturday and this happened in the late afternoon ) to read my Scans and X-Rays. They finally gave me some Morphine but I didn't even notice a difference in the pain level so they gave me some other stuff and finally once they knew that I did't have any head or neck injuries they undid me and once I was on a soft bed that helped .For the first couple hours I could hardly breathe with that jagged rib in my lung. I've since had 2 surgeries 'cause they missed the lung puncture initallyand I had a chest full of blood and fliud which I had to have squeezed out of me in what was termed minor surgery and then a Thoracic Surgeon did a Thoracotamy to repair my lung and stop the continuous flow of fluid and blood into my chest cavity. That was on 5/9 and I'm just starting to think I might be able to ride again in a couple of weeks even though the Surgeon said I was done for the year. I haven't slept in my bed since my crash. I can only sleep in a recliner. It hurts to much to lie flat. I've got a Dainese Wave V Safety Jacket on order  and hopefully it will give my Ribs some protection. When I crashed I had on all my safety gear and believe it or not didn't have a mark anywhere on my body..all on the inside. I hope you don't go through half of what I've been through . Good luck and be careful on the pain pills..don't get carried away.

Get healed up soon, and by the time you're fit to ride, your bike should be ready to ride.

At least the asshat who hit you will have to pay!  Quite often they don't even stop.

Im a new rider and I have been really cautious trying to avoid that first drop. It caught up with me though.

Bradha,
hope you heal quickly! I broke my clutch lever, too. But mine was nothing compared to yours. Best of luck and I hope you get back on the bike soon!

You can never really know what the other guy/idiot will suddenly do - I just keep my distance as much as possible.

I second that.  I'm not so much worried about dropping it anymore as I am of being hit.

I could easily see myself in your place.  Condolences,  dude.

Sucks!!  Absolutely sucks!!!  Do everything you can to heal, take it easy (yeah, it's frustrating to let others help you), follow up with physical therapy (damn does that hurt , but you need the flexibility) and let the anger subside.  You've got enough to do, no use carrying that load.

THanks for saying something about the back protector.  I thought they were all alike, but another rider told me that in an accident her lung was punctured.  She told me that some back protectors only protect the spine, not really going far enough around the lungs to support them in an accident.  I never realized that, and am looking to get one for track days.  I'll look up the one you noted.  Thanks for thinking of others even though you're in pain!!

keep us updated!!

2nd it all, carrying the load of Grr is what your insurance company is for.   ;)

glad you're still with us, and i think the best thing i've ever heard about traffic is: Never forget, those people are trying to kill you!
best of luck with recovery!

three words... LAWYER... LAWYER... LAWYER. It makes a difference. don't sign anything without running it by someone who knows what they are talking about. If there is a moto or PI lawyer on the board... we should set up an accident forum. just simple consultation. but most PI lawyers work for free... they just get a cut of the settlement... nothing to lose. but more importantly... get well. see you on the road soon.

Hope the pain meds are controlling your pain. I was on 2 percocets every 4 hours and that really just got me by .Don't be afraid to let the Doctor know if the meds aren't controlling your pain ........but becareful not to stay on them any longer than necessary 'cause there can be withdrawal issues after a month or so.

Whoa, glad your moving around.  That truly sucks.....

I think the lawyer idea is the right one. I've always felt if someone is gonna be a douchebag about causing the accident, then they need to pay as severally as possible. Especially when injuries are involved. It wouldn't matter if it was bike or car, IMO.
