There are some straights and you are more than welcome to offer suggestions but the road South of the McKinney airport to Princeton cannot be missed along with 545.
I don't know how to route the map on google maps so I've detailed the route below.
Meet at 9:00 a.m.
Start at the corner of hwy 5 and El Dorado Parkway (QT gas station)
Go towards McKinney Airport and pick up hwy 546 â€" fun twisty section
North on 982 to Princeton (go through Princeton) - a little construction but only for 7 miles
Pick up 1377 North towards Blue Ridge â€" long sweepers
Left on 545 heading East to 121 intersection â€" tight turns with some straights
121 North to Westminster â€" 10 miles of straighter than hell roads
3133 North to 2799 where we gas up at Tom Bean
11 West to 69 North â€" straight and boring but no way around that
Then onto 697 East â€" well known and fun as hell road that takes us just south of Sherman.
Lunch and then everyone can superslab or take 11 South back to 2799 and onto 121 West to 75 South and into Anna for some 455 West into Celina where you will be 10 miles North of the Dallas North Tollway.
Suggestions are welcome to avoid the 121 North to Westminster but 697 CANNOT be missed.
so who is in?
I am a definate maybe. There are somne pretty good roads up that way.
I'm in.
If the position of "slow guy" hasn't been filled yet, I'm most likely in. [thumbsup]
I think I've got some gaps in the route here, and my work PC may have jacked this up, but here's what I get from Muskrat's directions above:

when we get to Sherman we can decide if we want to scoot the same roads. I don't care one bit, it will be a blast no matter. System Error rode part of it Sunday with me and Stan late afternoon and liked it.

UJ and I are in [moto]
this might be the biggest ride of the decade. I'm counting some serious numbers here.
I'll try my best to make this [moto]
I thought of CDC this past weekend for his service that I was not able to attend. CDC donated hours and hours on the phone and in person talking Ducati to all of us, sometimes even me till 2 in the morning.
so in his spirit and the little mischievous smile he always carried I'd like to dedicate this ride to one of our own, Charles De Castro
+1
Patrick and his 996 wants to come too [thumbsup]
Count me as a tentative, iffish maybe. Nothing is certain in this life, including a whole weekend off.
damn, looks like we need a police escort to have roads blocked. this ride is going to be epic and we have plenty of people running rabbit as well javascript:void(0); [thumbsup]
Primo weather should ensure big turnout [thumbsup] ;D
As a newb who never had a chance to meet Charles, I demand some good stories when we stop for lunch! [thumbsup]
i won't be able to make this... but i will be thinking of charles, and i will be on two wheels (the non-motorized kind) [thumbsup]
took the route today folks and we have some problems.
Wolf Front Road is impassable......half gravel and the other half absolute SHIT. I'm working a way around this but it's the road you take North after you jump on 3133. Going to Van Alstyne on 3133 as an alternative is NOT an option because it too has 10 miles of gravel.
I'm thinking we jump onto 121 past Westminster and onto 160 North and then double back on 121 (this part is good for the 6 or so miles) before running North onto Tom Bean.
Suggestions around this little trivial stuff is welcome. Thinking maybe hit 533 North off of 3133 or Buckshot Road to 121 and back East.
brush up on your hand signals, there are lots of riders this Sunday and we need to keep some order to keep folks safe
http://xyz.home.comcast.net/~xyz/motorcycle_hand_signals.htm (http://xyz.home.comcast.net/~xyz/motorcycle_hand_signals.htm)
I carry one of these and so should you. We hope NEVER to need it but...... http://www.medids.com/free-id.php (http://www.medids.com/free-id.php)
also, a tap on the helmet means cop so be aware of this one especially those of you who pass on double yellow and in blind corners.
Steve Slagel's in too. And I'll be 2-up for this ride. See you all Sunday Funday! [beer]

Plan on meeting up with Patrick 969 at the Shell at
75 and Spring Valley exit at 8:10. Camera, ear plugs,
wet and dry bug rags, water, an apple and I'm set ;D
Loose Wheels is roughly 8.5 miles North of where we will connect with Sherman, TX. IMO it's a great place and HUGE. The place is off of hwy 75 in Dennison on Grayson Drive and hwy 75.
I am going to make this ride... I wouldn't mind meeting up with folks to ride up north prior to the ride. Is there anyone from the downtown dallas area or south of here that would like to meet up at 8:00 at AMS?
i can do that.
Muskrat, you got a map or something for your QT start point? ;D
I had a little trouble finding it. It's up in McKinney
straight up 121 you will cross 75 and continue (turns into hwy 5/McDonald Street). pass the golf course on left and at next light you'll see the station. I mapped the appraisal district just two blocks west on the same road because I can't find the addy.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Mckinney&state=TX&address=250+W+Eldorado+Pkwy&zipcode=75069-8023&country=US&latitude=33.179523&longitude=-96.621142&geocode=ADDRESS (http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Mckinney&state=TX&address=250+W+Eldorado+Pkwy&zipcode=75069-8023&country=US&latitude=33.179523&longitude=-96.621142&geocode=ADDRESS)
[thumbsup]
OK, so I went back to the original map I did and linked it all together to get the total distance. I think some of this may have changed due to the gravel roads situation, but here's the map:

I literally joined this forum today to get the details of this ride after talking to a couple at AMS today who mentioned this ride. I know it's late, but I plan on showing up anyway. This will be my first group ride, so please excuse my noobness. fyi, if i am leading any "fast" group, we will be going fast. And we will cover a lot of miles. For reasons beyond my control, we will also probably arrive after other groups, but members of my ride group will also see many roads that they could not have planned ahead for.

Glad you guys had fun! Hope you all made it home safe. Just got back from a solo Muenster ride. What a great day weather wise! I've been waiting since late April for these days. Doc's was dead. Couldn't believe it! I literally was the only person there and it was 1:00!! The were 6-8 Harley riders tightening their do-rags and getting ready to leave when I arrived. But zero riders ever showed up while I had lunch. Crazy!! Needless to say the service was great. [thumbsup] [drink]
Awesome day! [moto] [moto] [moto] Had a great time!
It was great to meet everyone, and yes we need name tags for the next meet up...
It was fun exploring some new roads, the scenery today was great with the leaves starting to turn. And it was fun learning how to ride on gravel... :P (ok, that part not so much fun but I made it out of the parking lot without dumping it in front of the audience [clap]) The food there was great but I needed a nap before we started to head back...
Thanks 'skrat for setting this up... someday we need to take this route again so you can show 'spoke where all the turns are... [cheeky]
you bet UJ. The funniest part was waiting and watching all of you look over and point yet no one slowed fast enough to make the turn.

Oh well, without the stories it would make these boards pretty boring.
It would have been fun to have a GPS setup on AM's bike just to know where they really went... [cheeky]

I had one hooked up in vegas, but in the sunlight it is very hard to read (i gots no fairing). I'll see about rigging something up in the future and calling it my "gauges".
I am glad I made this ride. It is good to be able to put faces with some of the names on the board. We should make this an annual ride. I didn't know CDC, I did see him at a Demo Day in Ft. Worth a couple years ago. He seemed like a nice guy and rode a nice bike.
I will make more group rides with you guys when I can. It was a great ride.

Nice day, twisty roads, good food, and great camaraderie. A pleasure to see new faces as well as old. Except for running out of gas on the Tollway on the way home, it was perfect. Kinda painful to see the group waving at me as I sputtered off to the service road, everyone thinking, no doubt, that I had just reached my exit. As luck would have it, I managed to scavenge the tank vapors sufficiently to coast right up to a parked NTTA courtesy patrol truck and got a half gallon of gas to get me to the nearest Shell station. Man, the Multi was thirsty today, for some reason! ;D [moto]

No worries, it turned out well as usual. Strangely, the Multi has always been able to coast right to gasoline whenever it runs dry. Not a bad design characteristic for a bike with a low fuel warning that comes on 30 miles after you fill the tank.

Classic ending for you John [laugh]
Just the luck o' the Irish. ;)

Does your yellow light work? I thought you were exiting and I could not tell you had trouble at 90mph in tollway traffic. Sorry man.
We were doing 90!?!? After that ride, it felt like 40. Well, duh! No wonder I ran out of gas. [bang]
Just don't feel good about group rides this big anymore. Would love to hook up on smaller rides with folks I know. Glad you guys had fun but I'm looking forward to smaller group rides with more well known riders. No offense to the new folks. No way. Just like them to get their miles before a big group ride. I haven't survived 46 years of riding by pure luck. I'll stick to solo rides and smaller experienced rides. Again, no offense to the newbies. I hope to see you soon on a ride. [thumbsup] [moto] But first things first.

nancy negativity. we split into multiple groups so we didn't look or act like a parade of dumdums with wheels.
also, a loose rear brake switch for the brake light was the culprit for the intense LED disco show coming from the back of the monster. 2 minutes in the garage and it was discovered, counting the time to cut and light a stoagie.

Again, that's Mr. Nancy Negativity to you. And no one said anything about dumdums with wheels. Stoagies are goodness! Hope it was a good one!!! [thumbsup]
Good to hear about the brake light fix and I've got your
bracket where it won't get lost.
I prefer small groups, but this rocked
big time today! I should have spent
some time from trailing the rabbits and
rode back and enjoyed the scenery more
at least for a while. All those bikes and
no drops. Great job everyone [thumbsup]
big rides can be great if everyone follows some order and today everyone did just that. I saw you crazies (AKA dumdums) at the gas station and singled each of you out for a reason. [evil]
I have been on rides with as few as 10 bikes and they've all acted like morons IMO so I'd prefer to ride with a more civil crowd. Today everyone did just that and that's what made it a great ride!
I'm slow, oldish (Fastwin uses an abacus to count his decades on earth) and perhaps ride my cruiser a little too much so speed is negligible for my taste. Sometimes I let it rip but for the most part these twisties were just fine at 60 to 80.
I'm sure Charles would have approved of the ride. [thumbsup] [moto] Again, glad you kids had fun! ;D Abacus? Hell, I'm still trying to start a fire in my cave.

I couldn't agree more! I mentioned it to a few guys yesterday, and I think I should repeat it here: The pace of the 'slow' group was excellent! I didn't feel like I had to push myself to keep up, and we were all able to stay together (with the exception of those stupid red lights...). I had a blast! [thumbsup]
Me too. Healthy pace in all groups and the scenery was beautiful; good route, Dax!
I'm trying to think of a way where the people that went on this ride can post their screen name where they're shown in any one of the several pictures that were taken on this trip. My memory is... uh, kinda sucky, so any help I can get would be most appreciated ;D What would be even more better would be if the riders that went on this trip could post what they were riding then I'll be really dangerous... I just might have a clue the next time we meet.
What are the chances [evil]
i had the old monster that was red and had shiny things bolted to it.
You know there's just one more bit of trivia I could add to this new rider/group rides thing; my first group ride with the folks on the DML/DFWM forum was five years ago. There were four of us (which was 100% turn-out for the forum at the time).
The "new" guys on this 21 person mega ride had a baptisim of fire, no two ways about it, but I think everyone found a place within there comfort level and had a good time. Thanks for coming out for this ride; there will be plenty more in the future so watch this space ;D
I am sad that I missed this epic adventure.
I have a fractured wrist so I can not ride for another 4 weeks, I am hating it :'( , I want to be out on my bike. [moto]
for the rabbit group, i would prefer no one pass a slower car in the shoulder, as I see that as a great way to get increased 5-0 presence on roads i like.
i understand being frustrated behind a slower moving car, and i have no problems with safely passing a vehicle on the left, when safe, specific road striping be damned.
it is the 'fast' group, and by all means - go as fast as you dare/care - but don't behave in ways that will make it harder to have fun for others in the future.
but that's all i have to say about that.
somewhat related: if somebody is faster or as fast as me, by all means, feel free to lead the way. it should be clear to all that i don't know the roads and miss turns .... regularly.

being lost is half the fun. GPS be damend. we need plenty of stories and this just adds to the luster.

Ha! Thanks for the pix. It's all becoming clear to me now... [laugh]
Websense blocks Cher's avatar image...weird. I can't figure out why it would block that one image. Must be cuz her bike is yellow? who knows?
Anyway, this is a personal thanks to her as interim leader of the pack during one of the streches. Safe, fun - the right balance between challenging and comfortable.

Now that's funny! Except one fell off [roll]
I'm Dan with the 2 into 1 Hyper that was "appointed"
to lead the rabbits - like that lasted long.
I guessed right on VGorilla ;D. Nice camera and pics [thumbsup]
The pics could have been much better. I took half of them with the settings all jacked up, and when I realized it, I sort of rushed to get a bunch without really thinking too much. It shows.
My daughter is a fricking photography savant - State of Texas Photoeditor of the Year. I kid you not. So I'm very self critical. It sucks when your kid has to show you how to play with the toys...
UnionJill - witness protection program? why all the pics of the back of your head? At least I know who you are now, and your secret's safe with me.
I wouldn't press my luck Vanillah, she does not like to be photographed.
