I guess you'll be installing new springs and bolts on the clutch pack

affirmative good buddy.  the extractor bit actually ended up fracturing off in the head on the first attempt to drill and then remove the bolt.  that's where the cutting wheel came in.  at first i thought if i could just cut the spring in enough places, that would relieve the tension, and i could then take another swing at the bolt.  that didn't seem to help, however, so i decided i would cut the spring retainer.  that seemed to be working, until i almost had the retainer off, and then it actually took the head of the bolt with it, which was probably because it was weakened after it and been drilled in the center.  that left me with a stub that was broken off inside the hub mount.  so i drilled into the stub a short bit, and tried with a different extractor, and was able to remove the remaining stub.   [thumbsup]

I'm anxious to see what your impressions of the DynaCoils and the rest of the parts are once it's back up and running

I know how you feel Rich I had to drill out one of the spring retainer bolts after I snapped off the bolt head while putting the pressure plate on my S4RS  [roll]

yeah...actually my big challenge at this point is getting that massive hub bolt (see pic 2) broke... have a clutch holding tool on the way, but it's still going to be a pregnant dog.  time to break out an impact wrench.   [thumbsup]

usually once you get the head of the bolt off, you can just grab what's left and turn it out using a pair of pliers... weird that it took that much to get the threads out...

dynacoils = awesome, and if you get the ignitech programmable module on top of that = more awesome

an impact wrench is by far the easiest way to get that center nut off.  I wouldn't attempt it any other way.  I don't even use the clutch holding tool with the impact wrench...

Now the nuts that hold the clutch basket on really suck balls, they've got thread locker on em and I'd recommend you heat them before pulling them out if you're changing the basket...

david...we're like, on some wavelength.... i actually picked up an impact wrench earlier today.  should be here in a couple days...  i'll be soaking that center bolt in a little lubricant in the next day or so, and have a hair dryer for those other bolts.

lots of progress today...though i'm too tired to post any pics right now...and everyone has seen a naked bike without wheels anyway so not much new there.

not sure a hairdryer's gonna do it on those other bolts.  Better to have a small torch, but give it go and let us know how it goes  [thumbsup]

Mmmm, more fire! Apartment buildings love it when you work on your bike in the living room with a blow torch [thumbsup]

i used a hairdryer to pull the bearings from the front rim last night pretty easily (thanks to RichD's bushing puller)...i was able to localize the heat to the rim though and not so much on the bearing.

Good news on the 17mm collet (for the rear wheel bearings):  I don't have one.   :o

...but I have a comprehensive plan to fabricate one by this time tomorrow.   [thumbsup]

Enough that it took me an extra day!
Those collets are expensive to make...
it's not the raw materials -it's the consumables that drive the expenses up.
