Title: Hello from Iowa (pics and a story)
Post by: mors vito on November 04, 2010, 05:58:11 PM
Hello all, this is my story, i'm glad to finally join this forum as I have been browsing it for a few months.

Back in August I bought my future for $2500, as this is my new, new to me, 1997 Ducati Monster 750

Only thing wrong is the left front fork seal has a small leak and there is a little rust that a good afternoon and some elbow grease can solve.

here are some pics the day I got it, then a week later I go to school without her (only drove her a couple times before I left :'( )

That was then, and on halloween weekend I went back home from college, to see my mom and to work on my bike.

It was two months since I saw her and I had a handful of mods in my hands: Vapor gauge, Frame sliders, LED brake light, Rizoma bar-ends, grips, and clip-ons that haven't come yet.

Gauge bracket before:

Gauge bracket after some BBQ matte black spray paint, looks very nice and smooth. Thanks to Mike Qube for his idea

My grips and bar ends that were waiting for me at my mom's, clip-ons apparently haven't come yet I have to call the guy to figure what happened.

Here she is all dusty and plugged into a battery charger:

Before picture of the tail light and fugly fender:

Bike monkey LED tail light installed and ugly fender and large orange blinker removed.

This is where I am going to cut the frame, once I do that, I will install a license plate holder instead of zip ties holding it up: Ill do that thanksgiving or christmas
(http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz242/Crispy0607/CIMG01652.jpg)

I then took off the gauge and placed my new one on, it looks weird because the bracket isn't holding it up and the headlight is off, the lines are holding it, but I just wanted to see what it looked liked, I didn't install it. Note: the brake lines point up then go down, ill fix everything when I get my new clip-ons installed.

Fugly mirrors taken off and original gauge put back on

Just some other pics and dramatic angles that look cool:

....and now I wait, till Thanksgiving to see her again.

Next to come: install gauge, paint frame gloss black, install frame sliders, install clip-ons if they get here, bar-ends and grips, and a good cleaning.

Hoping for christmas: New gel seat, mirrors and go pro HD camera and mount to take those videos you all want me to take.

I'll keep you updated, as I know everyone loves pictures of mods being installed.  ;D

Well that's kinda the story, I glued two posts from the other forum I'm on so if the story seems off, well that's why. But you get the point.

[thumbsup] Very nice! I'm still on the lookout for a diamond in the rough $2500 or so Duc. I think you made out quite nicely. Welcome to the DMF!

Welcome to the spot! I demand more info, pics, and impressions of the TrailTech unit. :D Most notably how well the indicator housing works for you, and how you decide to mount it.

Nice. You obviously have done some research on the site already, and the projects looking good.  As I suggested to another newer person who posted their project plans here - if you post up (hell even just copy) your narrative here to the Acc & mods section you'll get a good following and prossibly some other helpful tips.

Keep up the good work.
