Are they legal in any Australian state?
Radar detection is a one way device (AFAIK), but it's easy to see.
If your guys use laser guns, you'll need a laser jammer.
Search for Blinder [thumbsup]
The unique Blinder feature is that it's also a garage door opener, which makes it legal to have installed in/on a vehicle.
No FHE, but I was/am close to getting one [evil]

Just curious :).
+1
Looked at it a while ago
and as they use so many type of detection devices one unit will not cover all as Stopintime said laser is an issue
here a reversing sensors are legal and will block confuse radar but the [leo] will know some thing is wrong if they don't get a reading.
Mount the sensor on the front of the bike near the head light, on a car near the front number plate that is what they aim at.
And not much room on a monster to hide all the gear.
Heap of info on the web and youtube ,just gets to difficult. :-\

I am now seriously considering getting myself one as I am awaiting an invitation to speak with his honor after being caught overtaking someone (doh!). [bang]
This website is pretty good for information on both car and motorcycle kits. The full kit is expensive, but for what I probably will need to pay for a lawyer etc....

I don't see how it can work...... If a policeman is pointing his laser at you and not going to get a reading they are going to ask questions..... More then likely pull you in and have a look over the bike/car.... The fine will be huge if your caught

From my reading there are two strategies in place here:
1) detection - which gives you the opportunity to correct your speed
2) jamming - so they cannot get a correct reading
to give a scenario - one the kits I have seen sold is hidden up in the bike itself and has a wireless transmitter unit and receiver for your helmet. If you are cruising and receive a warning you can correct your speed and then switch the unit off. If you do get pulled over the police have to be pretty clued (90% of them arent) as to where the unit would be wired in. There are many instances where police get false readings from the guns they rely on the gullibility of joe public to believe them.
here is a link to one of the kits I am looking at - http://www.delonixradar.com.au/radar-detectors/stealth/bike/ (http://www.delonixradar.com.au/radar-detectors/stealth/bike/)
The actual site has some useful information on how laser/radar detectors work, and how police use radar detector detectors....
This guy is pretty good too - sought some advice from him recently...

But most of them use laser, so by the time you get the alert, it's to late

That's what laser jammers are for. On all the time and answers to a hit automatically.
So I take it that at least one of you will be testing one out on the Jenolan Caves run [thumbsup]
Mmick
A lot of the time with Mobile Radar Cameras they are very low powered unit's.
So by the time your Radar Detector has picked up the signal you are already in the Camera range, and by the time
you have reacted to the Detector the Camera already has your Happy snap.
The Radar Detector Detector works by "looking" for the specific oscillator frequency that the radar detector use
to operate, Radar detector manufacturers have put a lot of time and money into masking the signal or shutting down the
Radar Detector to eliminate the emissions from the Detectors oscillator.
To Quote from Wikipedia:
QuoteRadar detectors are built around a superheterodyne receiver, which has a local oscillator that radiates slightly.
It is therefore possible to build a radar-detector detector, which detects such emissions (usually the frequency of the
radar type being detected, plus about 10 MHz for the intermediate frequency).
Some police radar guns are equipped with such a device.
I remember the Cairns Traffic branch made a big song and dance when the got there Radar Detector Detector not long
after the Radar Detector laws came in, they don't use it any more (a work friend of my Wife's, her Husband did a short
stint with the Cairns traffic branch while he was a rookie) he confirmed they don't use it anymore and they use the Laser
speed detection guns, they look through the sights, push the button to activate the laser and if they see the front of the
car dip the a second or 2 after the laser activates or the signal gets suddenly blocked they assume that you have a detector
and he said that 99 times out of 100 they were right.

See... I think this is the undoing of such devices. So you have a semi-legal laser jammer ("its my garage door opener officer ;D").... but when [leo] points her laser gun at you.... your... um... garage door opener.... indicates that another laser device is interfering with it giving you time to hit the brakes (before you collide with the garage door ;)) and all the while - about 3 seconds - its jamming [leo]'s laser gun causing zero reading until it auto shuts off allowing [leo]'s device to record a reading at last.... a lower reading due to the fact that you had 3 seconds, or whatever it is, to hit the brakes. Good in theory. But if all this just means that you're gonna get pulled for suspcious-front-end-dive-during-the-absense-of-a-speed-reading so that "they" can go over your ride hunting for any irregularities.... then you might as well.... open the garage door yourself... if you know what I mean.
Spot On! Its just not worth it
if the [leo] gets a error reading and sees your bike/ car front end dip down he can now pull you over?
and once he does pull you over he is allowed to search your vehicle for illegal devices?
i thought they have to have a reason to pull you over... probable cause or some thing like that
and then they need a warrant to search you vehicle, is this no longer the way things go?
I would have thought the car dipping would be probable cause

Cheetah M27 Rider - New Motorcycle Laser Jammer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlVpulXvdsI#)
Has anyone tried and keen to comment on cheetah m27 laser jammer??
I like the look of that.
Probably best kept in the off position and then turned on when overtaking.
Wham bam thank you loony!
Have been offered mentioned very cheap and it did cross my mind briefly.
But after reading your post no thanx! I'll just try and behave and run the gauntlet on quieter stretches of road and book in a few track days.
I haven't had a ticket in over 10 years. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
Cheers
Fudge.
Having started this thread some time ago, my considered opinion (FWIW) is this:
Installing a detection/jamming device isnt worth the grief it will cause you if and when you're found with it. Having such a device will IMO be portrayed as "showing intent"... as in... only somebody who clearly intends to be speeding would go to the trouble of installing such as device. I'd prefer to be... innocently mistaken... than guilty of premeditation ;).
Same here.
I save it for the track days on a designated track bike. On track days you only piss people off by being too slow [laugh].
Just took a phone call from a mate last night, he received a letter in the mail from the Qld Gov Transport Dept in regards to an alleged infringement. He was photographed in western Brisbane from an unmarked police car traveling in the same direction behind him at an alleged 23kms over the speed limit traveling down a steep hill. He was driving his car on his way to work.
I'm guessing the police thought his actions were not dangerous enough to stop him and write out a ticket. They just let him continue on his merry way only to be penalized days after the alleged incident.
Perhaps it has something to do with answering the question "How did they manage to safely get behind a car allegedly traveling 23kms over the speed limit to take a photo of them speeding (without lights and sirens in an unmarked car)?"
Maybe a detector would have helped my friend out in this instance.
take it to court and let them prove the case
