Title: GT5 next week.
Post by: mookieo2 on November 18, 2010, 07:33:06 AM
Anyone awaiting the arrival of GT5 next week?

It is the only video game that I always loved and can put hours into. Anyone use a wheel combo for it?

I plan on getting the Logitech G27 wheel set and building a cockpit for it something similar to this

Zalem V2 Video Promocional - Logitech g25 modificado (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiXsZqUOye8&feature=related#normal)

Zalem v25 montaje.avi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW93WyrBPjE&feature=fvsr#normal)

I think a length of 1 1/4 thin walled steel tubing should be sufficient enough and a day or two two cut and weld it together. This one is my favorite cockpit and it isn't available in the US, besides its probably about $700

Gran Turismo is the only video game I ever really got into. I refuse to buy gt5 on the suspicion that my life will devolve into something not dissimilar to a crackhead's.

That said, I would love to build something like that. I one saw one that looked like that but had three screens giving front and side views. It was EPIC:

I love the game but not enough to buy 3 ps3's, 3 copy's of GT5, and 3 TV's. I have a 100" projector screen which I believe is sufficient enough from 10' away.

Fixed, and yes, I'm waiting with bated breath.

GT and GT2 were cool for the PS back in the day. I would probably have liked to have played the subsequent editions, but when Sony made the PS2 harder to get than a hand job in a nunnery, I gave up and went with the Xbox 360 instead. GT5 looks appealing and I may break down and get a PS3 for it, but then again I have been enjoying Forza 3 and F1 2010 very much.

I intended on getting it probably after the holidays but when in the mall the other day, I merely stopped in a store to see when the release date was THIS time  [cheeky] and when the guy said the 24th, my wife suggested I put the deposit down to hold it and get it then.
So I guess I be wasting a little time collecting cars I suppose. I believe all my stuff from Prologue transfers over, right?

I'm definitely getting it, i've spent entire weekends ignoring actual social activities in the past because I've had to do 24 hours of Nuremberg.

Aside from Tourist Trophy it's the only video game i've ever been sucked into

I so hope they make Tourist Trophy for PS3 after GT5's been out for a while.

There is a rumor that they may have a download to add bikes to gt5 in the future.

GT5 has me contemplating a 3D TV... I'm against the 3D trend in general. it's the next Hollywood gimmick. Heck a lot of the tv content out there is still 4:3 so I thought 3D TV's were kinda silly.

But for racing games I think it would be great. Alas, my depth perception / ability to parallax sucks so I'll have to try it first.  "3D ready" just means a higher refresh rate so there are 2D benefits too.

I bought my PS3 for use specifically when GT5 came out, I bought it nearly 3 years ago.

So I have been waiting now for quite a while......

So many promised delivery dates, so many of them have come and gone, so when I finally see a shipped next to
my order status, then I will believe.

I might sound very cynical, and I am!  [cheeky] But having enjoyed every version of Gran Turismo since it first
came out in 97 and these are pretty much the only games I have ever owned.

So roll on the 25th of November! I know the morning that arrives I will be running around the house like a loon
and I will then lock myself away for quite awhile to get into GT5, I foresee many Late nights in the coming weeks.

Picked mine up yesterday afternoon, only had a brief chance to play last night after the initial lengthy download of an update and installation.
Is good!  [thumbsup]

I too grabbed it yesterday. As said by Lethe, quite a long install in order to shorten load times, but pretty nice so far. Some things look like they were cut/paste from GT4, but I had huge expectations with a 5 year development. As for 3D  :-\

Mine is still in transit  :'(

But at least while it's delayed the backlog of Upgrade downloads will start to clear a little.
Some guys on GTPlanet are reporting having to try to do the upgrade 5 - 10 times to
try and get it to work. The joys of releasing such a massive game world wide over about 2 days.

So many people trying to log on and download at once.

As much as I hate single-use peripherals, I've been thinking it would be worth it to get a wheel/pedal set to go with the game. Anyone have first-hand experience?

I'm thinking of it too, as some of the tests, like in the Nascar schoo,l would be easier as you need precise steering control and at high speed it can be a little jerky with the control stick.

I have the old driving force pro. I'm getting the Logitech G27 for Christmas. That one has a clutch with 6-speed shifter. People go crazy with this stuff and mod the shifter, they have a MOMO wheel adapter to fit a standard size racing wheel on it. I'm also just finishing up a copy of www.virtualroadster.com (//http://) to mount the wheel and pedals too.

They take the pedals out of the case and invert them to make them hang like pedals from most cars, etc.

Check out this guys setup http://www.chilicoke.com/logitechwheel.htm (http://www.chilicoke.com/logitechwheel.htm)

Of course if you got and want to spend the money www.fanatec.de/html/index.php?id=230 (//http://)

I have the Fanatec with the club sport pedals for my Xbox and it makes a world of difference. Much more realistic, especially in braking where having a progressively weighted pedal can allow you to do some threshold braking much easier.

Then again, My Xbox is pretty much a driving simulator as I don't really play anything else.

Way to slip up the inside and then brake like your truck weighs... Oh, that's right, it DOES way practically nothing. Nicely done!  [beer]

I got tired of ham-fisting the X button so I co-opted the controls from MotoGP '09-'10 and made the triggers the gas and brake. I still steer like a drunken Irishman, but at least I'm smoother on the throttle.

Next I realized I was blowing the horn every time I wanted to turn, so I went ahead and changed the L3 button to the windshield wipers.

It's all about realism, my friend. Remember: This is the driving SIMULATOR.

After reading the thread about Forza4 I was wondering if anyone plays this online? I just got hooked up to the internet. DucWrangler is my PS3 name.
