It looks like this is going to be the best thing that ever happened to the naked bike segment. Seriously, why would you buy a 696 with this bike in the picture. Both bikes have questionable aesthetics, but the Triumph has so much more fun built into it. It also costs less and doesn't have any lean running fuel injection snafus.

I just got my latest Cycle World and they have named the Street Triple to their 10 best list.

Awesome bike, good luck finding one available for sale in the US.
My dealer has ZERO, and no promises of more '08s from Triumph. May have to wait for an '09 if you want one.
Well they aren't THAT hard to find actually. Place near me had one, same as a the Triumph/Ducati place in NYC. I did get to ride the 675, haven't the Street Triple yet. Engine on it was amazingly nice.

My dealer's still waiting...and waiting....
If you go with the Arrow cans, Arrow provides a map ready to be flashed to the Triple's ecu...
I don't see Ducati doing this...oh wait, they do!...when you pony up the cash.... [roll]
I like mine a lot!! The review is pretty accurate. It's a great noob bike but will keep experienced riders entertained also.
I put down a deposit (11/07) on the first green one to come in and found this one at another shop 3/08 and bought it. I was sick of waiting!

Probably improves on the 3-cylinder sound, too. I still like the twin sound better.... but at least the 3-cylinder doesn't whine like a 4 does.
I would like it if it was a single headlight. Wait..., is that sacrilegious for the bike?
I love the look of the S3. I was in a toss up between it and the monster. I ended up (obviously) picking the monster. Just something about owning a Ducati.
I was just at the local bike shop buying a summer jacket and gloves. They had a couple 1050s on the show floor. Real cool bikes. Not sure if is saw the smaller one.
Hey Eviltwin; just curiouse, why do you think it would be a good noob bike? I'm still in the market and trying to decide between the street 675 and m696. From the write up in the cycle world mag it made it sound like it wouldn't be such a great bike for a newer rider (me). Thanks for your feedback... [thumbsup]
eVilTWIN - I really like the looks of that and how you cleaned up the rear in that second picture. The Speed and Streets look really good with the low exhaust setups.
I'm thinking of buying another bike in the next year and if all of Ducati's new Monster designs go the way of the 696, I think I'll definitely be switching over to Triumph for something like this.

Its priced right, it's light weight and easy to turn, very smooth engine that doesn't have too much power but enough to get you out of a situation if needed, very comfortable, low seat height. Finding one may be tough, so your choice might be limited somewhat.
Sit on one or better yet ride one. I'm 6'3" w/ a 34" inseam it fits me perfectly if that helps.
Thanks for the [thumbsup] everyone!
Here's a crappy vid of the exhaust w/ the baffle removed. really doesn't do it justice.

Sweet bike eVilTWIN. Are those the stock handlebars? That Zard exhaust does look tough.
The sound of a twin is IMHO a lot better than an inline four which is way too whiney for my tastes. The triple has a nice sound to it especially when it is underpower & moving and when downshifting. I still prefer the sound of the twin over the triple at idle though. I just did some more YouTube browsing and really like the sound of this one at idle:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bilz9d2KT3A&feature=related
However, listen to this one as the guy revs it over and over. It sounds too whiney with no bass sounds. At the 50 second mark when he is under power it sounds great though.

Meh, I don't like it. That engine doesn't lend itself to a naked bike look to me...

+1 I think they make a single headlight kit for its bigger brother the Speed Triple, so maybe they will have one for this bike.
I wish they had called it the Trident instead of a Street Triple. The Trident name would give a nod to Triumph's first triples.

Both bikes are great, I've chosen the 696 because of it's pedigree.
Mine don't have any fuel injection issues.
The Street Triple is an incredible machine, but I got tired of waiting & after 6 months took back my deposit and purchased an S2R 1000.
PLus - unless you got in early on the pre-order, Triumph dealers don't have a way to let you know where your bike is in the build process or when it might arrive.
really frustrating for both dealers and buyers.
No regrets with the S2R, but the Streety is super cool.

That didn't stop people from buying S4 monsters. You can't see it from the saddle anyway. ;)
I would be seriously looking at one, but out here in Oregon it is tough to get one. The '08 stuff seems to be gone around here and '09 will be here ?????? Also, my dealer says as much as a $1000 price jump for '09, still better than a 696 out the door around here.
Look out for the Street Triple R for 2009.

Nothing but a rumor now, they can't even supply the demand for a standard model yet. It would be an easy progression though, since the daytona suspension is a direct bolt one replacment. Not sure how they would approach the HP increase though.

I stand corrected, and you;re more of a triumph guy than I. [laugh]
I guess I've been too busy riding to keep up with the intrawebs. You monster folk are quicker than the 675 guys for sure. That is why I come here.
I noticed they mentioned dropping the green, am Im glad I bought when I did cuz that was a major reason in wanting the bike. I fell in love with the color on the old 955 speed trips.

-Especially when you put side vents + radiator covers on it.. :-X
-No seriously I like the street/speed triples as far as street-fighter styling, but the engine itself certainly isn't as sexy as a desmo twin IMO...
It`s a hoot to ride, but no soul ???
In the UK if u order 1 Today the dealers are quoting Jan 2009 Delivery, they cant build them fast enough. But New production line in thailand near me is coming on stream in September which will help.
I haqve ridden one they are a hoot ,fantastic power spread and flexibility for a 675 torque like a 1000cc handling is exemplary but the bike lacks soul.
One of my riding buddies is on a '06 T-100 Bonnie... he had it in the local Triumph dealer for work and they let him take out a Street Triple for the day. By his account, it was an absolute blast.
That said, he hasn't ridden my M900 yet.... maybe I'll set him up with a ride and post a lil' comparo.
oh god...the soul thing again.
lol.
This is what I love about the DMF. Here is a thread about Triumph and not one soul here bashed. I went over to one of the Triumph sites to say hello to the Triumph folks I ran into while riding the canyons, but was quickly attacked by Ducati haters. I removed my post and my account. [thumbsup]
I too was looking for an S3 back around '05. They could never promise me a black one...
If by soul you mean stalling, fuel injection glitches and oil leaks then you are correct, the Trumpet has no soul. Just kidding ;D
I think its a great value and Triumph is known for delivering that with their bikes and they always make the engine the centerpiece. Does that mean you don't get that "something special" you get with a Duc? Sure, but it doesn't make it any less fun to ride. I know the planted, confident feeling a duc gives its' rider and i must admit I don't quite get that with the Striple, but I'll blame that on the cheap suspension. I've put on a daytona adjustable shock which helps the situation, but the front end is mediocre at best. That doesn't mean you can't go fast on it although I've yet to track it.
The main reason I didn't buy Ducati was that they didn't have anything in their lineup that really appealed to me. I've owned monsters, a 944SS, and a 749S. I wanted an upright and felt their offerings would leave me feeling like I went back to a previous bike.
I still stick up for us against the ducati hate elsewhere on the net. For some reason the mention of a Ducati seems to inspire a little jealous hatred. ;D
Neighbor of mine has an '08 Speedtriple and prefers my S4RS. He said it has more torque and feels far more stable. I've riding his too and I am not impressed at all. He says his next bike will be a Ducati for sure.
I've ridden it. It's an amazing bike and one I'd love to own just as much as my Monster 695.

You should convince Corrine to swap suspension bits with you. then you would have an S. Model. ;)

In both cases, it's too much motor for the chassis IMO. I've riden an S4RS and it was overwhelming. Remember, the speed trip is a heavy pregnant dog (~420lbs dry) and is built on a 10yr old chassis. Plus you have ohlins, which have a handling edge that cant be competed. Please done compare the Speed Trip with the Street Trip. They are two different worlds.

Pretty high considering the front end gets light very easily (esp above 8k rpms), it is easy to throw around traffic, you can knock off car mirrors with the wide bars and the bug eye headlights are the clencher. That and i've sucked a few squirrels into the intake and old people always give me the stink eye when I ride by. Does that help the rating any? [laugh]

Great description [clap] I want one! [moto]
I've read in a few reviews (and even browsed some of the triumphrat forums) and heard a number of times that the street triple has a snatchy throttle... that it's really on-off. Has it been in your experience? Thats one thing I love about my Duc is the utterly smooth throttle response. I also own a Yamaha FZ6 and riding the two bikes is like night and day!
Sounds like a remote control helicoptor. Where's the grunt?! :-\
If you're looking for these. I'm sure there are a few at AZSBK in Mesa.
I love Ducati and Nortons and Guzzis and I like and respect many other bike makes ,in fact I dont hate any motorcycle even ugly ones that
I dislike ....BUT! there are many bike owners that I hate for their intolerant arrogant ignorance!!!!!!

I did have a little bit of a time getting used to the throttle, but after removing most of the slack from the throttle cable and replacing the bars with ones that put my wrists at a more natural angle, it is perfectly fine now.

Who are you referring to? If you are referring to the remote control helicopter comment, he is right. Nobody is saying it is a bad bike, but the Triumph triple doesn't sound that good at idle. The Street Triple sounds too busy and too whiney at idle especially when compared to the nice growling base sounds from the Ducati twin. Listen to the first few seconds of this one. It sounds terrible.

Compare it to this.

Well what do you expect. Its a tripple. It has one more cylinder than two but one less than a four cylinder bike. It should sound like a cross between the two bikes and it does.
Think of it as a High RPM twin or a tourqey 4 cylinder.
BTW the twin headlights look good on those, as does the green paint. I think Triumph has a good thing going with those tripple bikes.
Speaking of civilization I'm about to get in the car and drive down to Sunnyvale for the weekend. Man all that traffic....
Ill get over it.
My brother in Australia has one and I rode it recently in Tasmania. It is awesome, heaps of mid-range drive and screaming topend, blink and your there turn-in - it is a bike that will keep up with anything with a good rider.
i don't like this bike too much either. i don't know without that trellis frame, these other naked bikes look just like a streetbike without a fairing. although i have a friend that races a 675 and he loves the motor. oh well i would still take this over a 696, everyone knows that [thumbsup]
the ron [evil]
I rode the Daytona 675 today and I can completely see where both sides of the argument come into play. Bottom line is that 675 triple engine is really really fun. It feels smooth and effortless and had no issues at virtually any rpm. Yeah, it doesn't have the same feel as a twin. It also has minimal engine braking and a really cool sound under acceleration. The engine feels like it was meant to/likes to run through the whole power band.
Its weird how all of my non riding friends think I would be crazy to trade a 620 ducati monster for a 675 Daytona. Ducati really seems to have good universal name recognition/reputation.
I guess the bottom line is you have to ride what you want to ride.
I put a deposit down for a black Street Triple in Dec. I took my deposit back... too long of a wait and the money was needed elsewhere. As far as I know that dealer still hasn't received another Street Triple in any color. I'll have one some day... or a Ducati.
I've never ridden a "street Triple" But I can vouch for my 955 speed triple , It's a blast to ride, plenty of torque, speed, and I think it's styling compliments the "Street fighter/Naked Bike" theme. To me it has a unique look, Just like my monster. I get compliments and stares on both bikes from all walks of life. Whenever I ride my F4 the only ones that look are the young kids on the rice bikes.
