Title: I totaled my bike.
Post by: ddjones on June 10, 2008, 02:49:34 PM
I was riding on a back road north of McKinney a month ago and hit a huge pothole. The damn pothole should be on the Texas map.  I was able to get the front wheel up and over the pothole but the rear wheel took all of the impact kicking the rear of the bike up in the air with a tank slapper thrown in just for some extra excitement. Luckily I didn’t go down! When I pulled over to inspect the damage all I saw was the plastic splashguard twisted around the rear wheel, so I gathered up the pieces and headed home. I found the real damage once I was able to closely inspect my bike at home… the rear motor mounts were almost completely busted out. I dropped the bike off at AMS for a damaged assessment and was informed that in addition to the busted motor mounts the frame is bent and the rear wheel is out of round. It will take 13K to rebuild it, so my insurance company totaled the bike. I’m thankful I didn’t flip the bike when I hit the pothole. It could have been a very nasty wreck. As it stands now I have a bad case of whiplash in my neck and reinjured an old lower back problem. And all I can think about is what will my next bike will be.  [evil] Something slower maybe.

Man you really gotta watch out for those potholes!!  I hit one about 5 years ado and I wasn't so lucky.  It totalled the bike and insurance took care of it and I was out for 3 months.  Glad to hear you are okay.  The bike is easily replaceable!!

Doug, it's great to hear from you again but dammit, what seriously crappy news!  While the bike may be totalled, at least you weren't; great save  :o    Glad you're O.K.  Good luck with your new bike search!  Try and get something before the Muenster Run though  [evil]

I'm glad to hear you made it out with major injuries.  That sounds like it was a wild ride to keep the bike off the ground.  It's a shame to hear that such a pretty bike is toast.

Heck, compared to you guys I got off easy. All I have is a sore neck and back… At least I’m not picking gravel out of my skin or pulling feathers from my helmet… not to mention the frequent flyer miles some people are acquiring with Medevac Helicopters.

Thanks for the bike offer Swanny, but the last thing I need is 130 hp! Now about that '73 BMW... will she wheelie?

That's what you think now. Take Swanny's bike for a spin, and you will quickly realize how much you NEED 130 hp  [evil] I think anyone who has ridden mine or Swanny's bikes can agree with that statement  [moto]

You don't need 130hp.  You can quit it anytime.  You just don't want  to. [evil]
