Title: *REVIEW ADDED* WHY is it so hard for a girl to get real gear ????
Post by: larakat on June 10, 2008, 07:37:23 PM
<rant>

So I find Scorpion EXO gear for girls,  momma like.  Momma goes to local dealer and orders pants.  Momma waits.
Then she calls and finds out they are backordered...then she emails ScorpionEXO and they say things will be shipping again May 30...or NOT.
June 6 I call dealer, dealer says, um..still backordered let me call you back.

He doesn't.
Scorpion has no answers.

tic tock tic tock...30 days waiting for pants is stupid.  WTF.  Mladin doesn't wait I bet ya!  [bang]
I really want those pants.  [popcorn]
I'm tryin to be patient.  [coffee]

I can't order the stuff with flowers and heels and useless buckles that turn me into eyecandy and roadkill...know what I mean?  [cheeky]
Cause I ride a bit hard.  Know what I mean?   [evil]
But I don't wanna completely look like a guy, or that kid from "The Christmas Story" that can't put his arms down. Know what I mean?  [bang]
And it's HOT here.  It's June and humid and pre-Hurricane muggy hot as hell, so I can't wear riding leathers (and not fall unconsious). Know what I mean?
And I really wanted THOSE pants.  (where the hell is the stomping pouting emoticon!?!?!)

</rant>

Well I feel much better.   [drink]
Damn I'm really glad the DMF exists.  8)

I feel your pain...I had to wait over two months just to get a Shoei RF-1000 in XS. [bang]

I had the same problem finding pants that 1) fit and 2) appealed to my sense of style

I ended up with Rev-it Marryl leather pants, they also make a GP pant that was pretty appealing.  And get this, CE armor!  How awesome is that?!  I found women's motorcycle gear that isn't tassles and pink leather and has REAL armor not just foam padding!  The rest of the day I waited for the sky to start falling.

Great pair of pants though, I almost ordered the longs but turns out they probably would have been to long, the regulars fit me pretty good and I'm 5'6" with a 30" inseam, just waiting for them to "wear in".

FYI, if you buy from a Euro company and are ordering from a store, make sure you order several different sizes to try on, converting their sizes to U.S. sizes isn't always accurate.

+1 Dainese makes plenty of functional and quality gear for both men and woman.   In my area, local Duc dealers have selections to try on of fitness.

That's just ri-dick-a-lous.
But I hear ya.  I go shopping at CycleGear or Barney's and it's rolling dice for that XS in a helmet.

Thanks for that ToyDragon.  I'll check out Rev-it brand.  Good pointers to sizing as well.

I've told my friends if I wear any motorcycle gear that has pink on it that they are allowed to shoot me on the spot!  ;D

I often ride by myself in somewhat remote locations.  Even though i've got the power to get away, I don't want anything identifying me as a woman (minus my breasts, which are sort of "hidden" by my tank bag) - so people don't run me off the road and rob me, etc.  I think I fear that more than wrecking.

Anwyay, for gear I find that Fieldsheer women's sizing is spot on and fits at your hips, not the waist.

The mens gear is often too skinny in the arms, not enough fabric in the waist, and yep, no armor.

If I tried to get in Dainese gear, you'd have to remove 1/2 of me.  It just does not fit. :(  Blame 13 years of swimming and other sports for my "sturdy" frame. :)

The Scorpion women's gear is brand new to market which is part of the holdup. I was at a dealer in Redondo Beach, CA last weekend and they had some of it in house. They may be willing to do mail order with you.

If you have a more athletic like build maybe ( and don't take this the wrong way ) you should think about men's leather.

The problem with the men's gear is that even if a woman has swimmers or rowers shoulders, the men's jacket does not fit at the waist.  They are to long and then you have to zip them over your hips.  This does not work.

I wish I could blame my size on being athletic. I just like my junk food too much. Dainese fits me well. I was pleasantly surprised.

My fitting issues is partly junk, partly the sturdy frame, partly the beer I like to drink  [beer], or as my family says "you're big boned".  I've tried cortech gear, but i've got to have the 18 or 3x to fit in it.  The size large is well, sized for my 13 year old or my left leg.  If you saw me, you'd say you're not fat - but unfortunately the scale tells me otherwise.

+1 to the women's specific store mentioned earlier.  You could almost stock it with off season purchases from ebay or newenough.com.  I've gotten awesome deals on gear from both places.  Got my size 16 fieldsheer textile jacket (women's specific fit) for $35 in January.  Best jacket I own when it comes to fit.

I tried on a Ducati jacket at our local dealer....the biggest size womens they had didn't  fit at all, and I took a mens 56 (46 us size)....damn these breasts!!  >:(

Inline 4's....had two of 'em (95 ninja zx9 and an 04 honda 599)....switched to the L-twin instead.  I wanted to be louder than the ol' HD the hubby drove.   My monster wins the loud contest hands down.  [thumbsup]

Don't get me wrong, I like what i've got, just not as much as I have.  Makes things, ummm, difficult.  LOL  :P

I'd like a review of them if you get a chance.  I'm looking at a pair of Scorpion pants as well but they aren't in-stock at the stores around here. (But they'd be happy to order them for me. [roll] )

i know lara got her pants  [thumbsup]
but i wanted to add to the thread...

i had great luck with the women's line of MotoGP and Alpinestar brand clothing.

also, i just had a similar issue with ordering gear online...
the pants i ordered online were not shipped when they said they were,
and i needed the vented pants... so, i went to a local dealer and they had the revit ladies gear instock  :o shocking, but true.

i bought a pair of the revit's from the dealer and the pants i ordered online are going back... unless of course i like them too  ;D

I like the idea of us posting local shops that carry a good selection of women's gear.

In the SF Bay Area:

Scuderia West (http://www.scuderia.com/) - San Francisco

Dainese D-Store (http://www.dainese.com/eng/store_locator.asp) - San Francisco

I am in the NW corner.  I have been to all of those dealers numerous times.  I bought my Multi at Cliff's.  I bought my new Monster (and 2 Harleys) at Gengras'.  I went to Cliff's a few weeks ago too.  I guess I was just focused on the new Monster.

[evil] Okay, I picked up those pants, and they were the wrong size.  [bang]  [laugh] My bad.
I did take them back and reorder the Mediums a week and half ago.   [coffee]

These pants were SO worth the headaches and 8 weeks.   [thumbsup]  [thumbsup]  [thumbsup]
Excellent craftmanship.  Seriously, I know tailoring and these are VERY well made.

I look hot.   ;D  No seriously.  ;D  I picked them up after lunch kickboxing and took them back to the office today. I traded my Icon Jeans for these for the ride home.  I was told by all men in my office, these were sick, and I looked hot, and they were by far the coolest looking women's pants they'd seen.  They actually appreciated the lack of tassle, flower and buckle stuff.  The detailing is sharp.  REALLY great design.

They fit like a comfortable glove.  They've got the female lower back/butt/thigh shape down and it's cut into the waist so they lay VERY well against the lowerback, almost hugging.  Perfect length, perfect sizing mechanisms for personalization.  REAL nice removable liner.
Hip and knee armour.  Extra abrasion protection in the right areas. Quilted padding for the shin.  I feel safer in these.

I wore them with my Alpinestar track boots around the office for about 30 minutes.  Sat at my desk and worked, wondered around.
They are very comfortable to "live" in as well.  (In case you end up hanging at a meetup or such, you'll be quite comfortable)

The acid test of course was the ride home.  I don't sit still on my bike, I search for every reason to throw my bike into a nice twist.  I've been known to go completely out of my way just to gain a handful.  That being said...wearing these pants while riding is hard to discribe.  I didn't notice them at all.  There was no "cutting" feeling while in tuck.  No flapping of unnecessary material.  The air movement was so excellent they are FAR more comfortable in 96 degree 65% humidity than jeans could ever be.  These are completely and utterly comfortable.

Final thought on sizing.  I bought the Small.  (wishful thinking LOL)   5'6" 125lbs.  With a 30-31 waist I should have known to get the Medium.  So if your waist size is on the border of the chart, go UP ONE.  You'll be fine.   [moto]

I'm going to order the other color variation of the Savanah's ASAP.

Absolutely EXCELLENT product.

The LaraKat rating of 5 thumbsup out of 5 thumbsup!   [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
