Title: Bike Value.......?????
Post by: White Lion on December 22, 2010, 09:42:33 PM
Hey guys, well i now have three pics of the stolen bike. I'm looking to put an early bid in prior to it going to auction as the price the auction house has estimated me seems like good value to me....

Just wondering if you guys can have a look at the pics and throw out an estimate to me.

Damage so far:
blinkers - gone
Handlebar switches - gone
Termi exhaust - gone
Fuel tank - Scratch on right hand side
Frame - Scratches to right hand side
Clutch cover - minor scratches to underside

Seems to be a lot of wires hanging out, the one on the right hand side behind the clutch i think could have been connected to the audio system under the seat, although the photos don't show if the seat has been tampered with... Not sure if the power commander behind the left carbon side panel is still there.

I am having a viewing next week, so that i can put a bid in early- will mainly be checking that the pc3, ecu are still there.

All in all it looks like a dead beat stole it as there are still plenty of parts on there that he could get a pineapple for
???

Okay, i suck at putting pics up...hang with me...  [bang]

you need to know if it is on the written off vehicle register , if so when it was put on and the status

if it is a stat writeoff then you can never register it

if it is a repairable writeoff then you have a $450 inspection fee to register it again

Oh, it is a repairable writeoff.....although my personal plates are still missing...  :'(

If you still have the keys would be worth while if it goes cheap enough. :-\
if any one else buys it with no keys it will cost heaps to get it running ,ie new instrument panel and ecu and keys of course.
The rest of the stuff easy to get of ebay in the US and about $450 for a tank respray. :P :P
The frame is an easy paint repair, they can touch that up easy, and if that is the scratch i see on the tank, may only need a touch up not much at all
Clutch cover no big deal buy a new one or spay it black again. ;D :D

Oh and if you don't buy it try and find the the new owner and sell him the keys/red key you could make a killing. [thumbsup]

You might want to check on the repairable write off laws, i have been told that after October this year (2010) you can no longer register a repairable write off in NSW.

Hmmm....i def need to look into that...

And yes, i think the right handlebar has had a slight mod fitted..

About the keys, they were handed to the insurer when they came to investigate the theft....all of them.... So i assume that they still have the keys.

Just went through the garage - have a spare OEM clutch cover, OEM blinkers, OEM exhaust. If the insides are all there it could be an okay buy

Ah Hambo, i'm not looking for two in one garage - although now i slightly wish i bought the 1098 so i could have both now. I'm looking to buy, repair, sell. I loved that bike greatly, but now i'm trying to make a shit situation into a good situation.....  ;D

And maybe i can score my old PC3.....

Now c'mon ... every garage should have at least 3 monsters. You can never have too much of a good thing.

Do you mean master cylinders? I see switches.

You're right ... odd selection of missing bits. I mean they didn't even take the whole exhaust - so I wouldn't expect them to get the ecu.

Damage due to being chucked in the back of a van/ute maybe?

I'm with hambo, shame to see your baby in that state but you don't need the agro, and anyone that buys it is going to do a check and find it's history, making it instantly a buyers market. why leave yourself open to get screwed over? save your cash and buy a crashed 1098 for a track bike or something you may want to keep.

Hmm paul, you're not making it easy! Would it change your opinion if i said i may be getting it for $4000?
Title: Re: Bike Value.......?????

4k is cheap, especially considering you have some of the parts to complete it, exhaust etc., but it will always have the history of being pinched and with that suspicion of unseen or cheaply repaired abuse, and that's where you're in a bind, you can't hide the history no matter how good the bike looks buyers will be suspicous and either move on or offer you a rediculous price. you may still make a couple of grand profit, but you may not. I'd consider doing it for the enjoyment of a project but in my experience i tend to modify and personalise along the way, make it my own, and that makes a mockery of a "budget". If you go for it good luck, and let me know if you need stuff, i may be able to help you with bits and pieces cheap.
cheers
paul.

Thanks for that Paul, I guess it still comes down to what it looks like in the flesh, but you do have a point. If i was the buyer, i would be hesitant to buy a previously stolen ride. Will keep you posted as to if i get it or not. Should know by the end of next week.

Anywho, i need bed, work in the morning.

you of course need to ask about all of the keys you returned and of course offer less than $4K

In all honesty, the liklihood of a key being found.... The claim was paid out, and the file closed. I would reckon theres a junior clerk somewhere had this set of keys in his hand and said to himself "what the F&%# am I supposed to do with these keys now?" then binned them.
If that's not the case they may be in the insurers "safe place" we all have. I know I put some chrissy presents in my safe place at some stage over the last couple of weeks  ???.

Post by: mattyvas on December 23, 2010, 06:04:39 PM
Yep another set of Ducati keys are just that another set....
I know it's tempting to grab it and flip it for some cash cause you have parts to put it back together.
Keep your cash and spend it on something more pleasing for you.

The compliance plate is also missing, so you would have to contact the rta and see what happens there ,and may be chat to a blue slip rego inspector.
the rta has a list of these guys. the guy down my way in mona vale is very good.An original rego slip is very handy to have for re rego. :P

If you can get the Red key, handy on the spanners, and sort out the compliance plate, very very tempting at 4K. :-\

Title: Re: Bike Value.......?????
Post by: J5 on December 23, 2010, 09:41:59 PM
you cannot get another compliance plate , but in saying that you can get it registered again , the old rego papers are a great help

but that doesnt help the cause if you ever try to sell it again , oh sorry mate it got stolen and the plate was stolen

Shit there is some arse holes out there!

They remove the compliance plate when the bike is a stat Write off!

Hugh move on and forget it though I know you do like to have a tinker.

Merry Chistmas everyone! [thumbsup]

with the amount of cashed up wankers wobbling around on the latest sports tackle you just need to keep your eyes peeled for a decent project to turn into a track bike. a base 848 would be the pick, they still have 120hp and with all that expensive plastic (same price as 1198) they're very easy to write off! a mate picked one up for 11k, put glass fairings on it, aftermarket clip ons and a 2nd hand front wheel, he went to a dealer once, for a rear brake lever, he's got a fast, light track bike for 13k, with 4000 klms on it!

Hmm, very interesting, won't say much as i'm exhausted and i talk shit when i'm tired  ;D (tired a lot)

Maybe not in the market for a track at the moment Paul, wedding is smacking the bank. Although a mate at work came to me yesterday and asked if i would be interested in his 1953 BSA...... He's getting me a pic.  [moto]

Talk later, after sleep.

Oh, Merry Christmas Y'all

I haven't been on here much Lately, but I'll throw in my $0.02

I personally would walk away....

I would be to paranoid about what happened to it while it was out of my control,
did some little smartarse put metal shavings in the engine?
did they drop the oil and give it a big old rev out?
Did they put sugar in the gas tank?

And of course you could go on and on with the amount of variables that could have happened while
it was in "The Care" of someone who didn't give a shit about it and only wanted to strip it to make
some quick cash.

As much as you loved it, and cared for it, you had your fun when it was your pride and joy, to me the
relationship with the S2R died the day you got handed the Keys to your new pride and joy.

Plus you are then trying to sell a bike that is "Damaged goods" into a depressed 2nd Hand Motorcycling
market, so you may struggle to make any decent coin on your hard work and money spent.

If it was me, and this is just my personal opinion, so feel free to tell me to get bent!  [laugh]
Walk away.

Well the track bike idea was just an example of a project you could enjoy tinkering on and use at the end rather than stress about whether someone will buy it, or will you turn a profit etc. whatever floats your boat, i know you like the oldies, a BSA would be fun, you sorted a triumph a while ago didn't you?

certainly did paul. Triumph is at about 90% done. tank needs a respray and a new seat. ive fixed everything else. Not sure what price my mate is even looking thinking of, don't even know what model it is yet. Hopefully something simple - i think it's only a small engine....

of all the bikes i get to work on, the 2 groups that cause me the most agro are 1/ bikes that were bought amazingly cheap needing work and 2/ ex race bikes.

they're cheap for a reason.  it's called the unknown.

Just went and had a look at the old duc. Verdict is....Gone.  They did a right number on the electrics - ignition switch looks like it's been through the shredder, and the PC3 has been removed. It was good to see it in the flesh, because now i can hit delete. Wasn't even worth it for a track bike  :-\

Anywho, onto the next one  ;D
