Title: [VIC] Jan 24th, Gippsland Day ride?
Post by: ungeheuer on January 07, 2011, 02:23:41 AM
Time we did it again.

I propose any day between Jan 17 and Jan 30 (although a week day would be more fun than weekends  ;)).

Early start, late finish for a big day of  [moto] over some of the twisties less travelled.

You name the day and I'll find you the roads.

I'm on leave from the 23rd, so a day after that would be good.

How about Monday 24th or Friday 28th?

Of those 2 dates I vote for Monday 24th (coz the caravan-pullers will be making a long weekend of it after Oz Day).

I could be talked into that. Just need a couple of days notice considering I have a 300km+ transport to get to the start line.

Hmm, looks like I'm going to miss out again.  I'm heading off to Singapore on Thursday for 5 weeks of work so I won't be around.  Pity coz it would be good to catch up with you all again.

I'm thinking about a ride on Monday morning though if anyone is interested.  Just a couple of hours of local cruising to keep things going.
PM me if anyone is interested.

Cheers and enjoy the ride,
Rob.

I'm interested. As long as we leave early enough so I can ride while the teenagers sleep!

You are very welcome. Sounds like you need to arrive at the starting point the night before. I don't know where we will meet yet.

Where should we meet Unge? Closer to your end or at somewhere like Warbi or Toolangi? You're leading..., It's a capacity thing.. [evil]

Well I'll be getting on the Queenscliffe-Sorrento ferry and staying the night somewhere on the Mornington Peninsula probably.  Depends on the meet up point.

oooh I have the day off on the 24th, and it's about time I got off my fat butt and took the bike out for it's yearly blast.

Put me down for 66.67% probability.

can someone ride slow with me, I'm  a bit out of practice - still waiting for the summer to come down to get my thin ass out there....or training wheels?

I'm riding to Phillip Isl for the Int' Classic Callenge and will be heading back to Sydney mon 24th, so I could possibly meet in the morning and ride at least some of the way before heading off north. Was somebody planning to post a route map ? then I could work out if this is do-able or not.
Also wondering, for my trip down, about the Mansfield Woods Point rd, from (obviously [roll]) Mansfield thru Jamieson, Woods Point, Matlock etc to Reefton Spur. It looks fantastic on a map,but could be all dirt, anyone been there lately ?

It was dirt 2 years ago Rendang (if anyone else knows better I'll gladly be corrected) Phone the Jamieson pub for info.  Whitfield to Mansfield is a good ride. Then from Mansfield do the the Black Spur instead (Narbethong to Healsville).  Or do a loop of both spurs if you have the time. The spurs can be heavily policed at times - be warned.

Re: the Gippsland ride.  It's doable.

I think Ungeheuer is in charge of the route.   [roll] [roll]

The route is almost commenced  ;D.  How 'bout we meet in Tooradin as early as you all can make it?  I can be there at 9am but might be a bit early for some??

Make it Tooradin at 10 just to be sure.

This is gonna be good. Haven't ridden with more than a couple of bikes for quite a while. And; haven't ridden with more than one other Ducati for years.

You lead Unge, and I'll bring up the rear.

Okay that gives me extra time to get there and have a coffee too.  Anyone know of good coffee in Tooradin?

edit: looks like there's only one cafe in Tooradin.

I'll be coming along with a dented, borrowed tank while mine gets it's leaks braised/silver soldered/welded up. I'll have the rat bike!

Brown Davis automotive in Bayswater fills the tank with Carbon Monoxide and repairs 'em. They build and repair fuel tanks for sport, 4WD and truck applications.

Not many people will touch petrol tanks now.

Pissing down here now too  :(

Also I managed to stay awake most of last night - one ear listening for/to the occasional showers - so I'm really not feeling OK to be riding all day after so little sleep.

I have to call NO SHOW.  Sorry guys (especially to heatherp, who travelled to be part of this one).

You should all have a PM by now...

Unge is unable to make it and apologises. Any of you guys who have travelled a distance like Heather want to catch up if it's pissing down? Scattered showers was the forecast but its raining hard now. I'm happy to catch up/meet folks and do a wet ride to a cafe. Hey the rain might clear, don't give up yet. The ride won't go through Gippsland if I lead it coz we'll get lost. But around Melbourne's nearby ranges no problem.

PM me as I only have Unge's number.

I've PMed you all in the vain hope you look at your computers.
So you all have my number. I'm trying to sort out something hoping the weather clears or if people want to meet for a cuppa or something stronger. I'm on Rec leave so I can't waste precious Me Time!
I've even got the rat bike ready with bashed up 'loner' tank while mine gets welded.
Rendang and Heather, once again Melbourne has served up it's finest..

Hi Everyone.

Well we made the ride.
I left my place at 8:30, rain stoppped.
Met up with Heather, Rendang, and Koko.
Followed Ungeheur's route to Lenogatha, rain showers all the way.
Koko had fuel leak issues so turned back, next time matey.

From Leongatha up to Mirboo North, for lunch and banter.

Mirboo North, to the Thorpdale loop, SUNSHINE!  dry roads and stretching of the throttle hand.

We then split at Morwell.

Had the rat tank on, while my tank is getting it's leak repaired. Unfortunately the rat tank started leaking in the same spot that they are prone to; from the tank hinge bracket area. I still got in a 200 kay ride and met some forum members.

Good to meet you all.

Not sure - I think she may be mad with me  :-[.

I'm not mad at you Unge.  :-*  Sorry if I've done anything to give that impression.

I was already on the road Sunday afternoon.  Stayed at the Barwon Heads hotel Sunday night and got NO sleep due the band deciding to party on outside my room.  They were still going at 6am when I left.

I don't have an iPhone so when I'm on the road I can only be contacted on my mobile and I don't have any access to the forum.

So I suppose my next phone purchase will be an iPhone  [roll]
