Queensland floods some very good pictures here :'( http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/01/australian_flooding.html (http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2011/01/australian_flooding.html)
Yes, we all just have to watch out for flood damaged vehicles that dealers will try and flog off to the unsuspecting. The auctions will be full of them over the next few months.
Feel sorry for all the poor buggers that have lost everything, and are still surrounded by murky brown water.
Mind you people pay big money for a house with a water view ;D
Mmick
Devistating photos, really shows the gravity of the situation.
If you can donate to the appeal we all know the money will go to a good cause, our fellow Aussie who have lost it all.

[roll] Yeah we will have to watch out for ourselves wont we. Or we could put our hands in our pockets and help the poor buggers out :-*.

+1.
Here's a link >> http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html (http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html)
Or you can donate via your bank. I'm sure plenty of Queenslanders - now under water - were amongst the generous folk all around Australia who donated to the Victorian Bush Fire appeal, now its time to return the generosity to our mates up north. So pay up fellow Victorians! And the rest of y'all [thumbsup].
Just saw Toowoomba getting washed away on the news. Hope our QLD DMFer's are okay?
Monsterdorf, Looney, Lance? ?
I know Monsterdorf's driveway is a 4wd track/creek bed at the moment.
Only know of loony is ok for the moment but today or tomorrow might not be good for him, so if you can guys let us know you are ok
Keeping everything crossed down here!! :o :o :o
fingers crossed here too, its look pretty vicsious
All roads out are cut off for Monsterdorf but house is on higher ground so okay so far. But it's still raining.
Don't know about Looney. ???
Thoughts and prayers are with all the Queensland mob. Stay safe !
i'm all good so far, rang mick, he's losing a few fences he reckons but otherwise he's ok. not sure about anyone else so far, but crikey it's wet! there's been some serious rain, they say wivenhoe dam will reach 200% and overflow, that's even with the gates open and the equivalent of two sydney harbours flowing out every 24 hours!!!
I hope everyone stays safe.
paul.
Stay safe qlders!! It is scary to listen to this unfolding on Brisbane ABC
The Brisbane river bursting it's banks is insane.

Can't help but feel a little useless, sitting here and watching this all unfold before my eyes.
Mmick
Yeah know how you feel but at least at work I feel a bit better. All we can do is to hope and pray for the best outcome from a very bad situation
I have started receiving PMs from members overseas, checking on our well-being. This is (quite obviously) a global news event and although there is only so much that can be done the thoughts and best wishes of our mates in this special little community is fantastic.
Jukie was in contact with Loony yesterday ... unfortunately I suspect that he has been seriously effected by now. Hope you are keeping yourself and family safe mate.
Same goes for everybody else. Keep yourselves safe ... that's the most important thing. We know people effected by the Hunter floods a couple of years ago as well as some effected by bushfires ... but in the end personal safety is paramount.

On a serious note watching the tele they showed brief snippets of news story's from around the world. certainly a major event/catastrophe :'(

cheers mark, we're all good here, can't go anywhere cause all the exits are flooded but our house is safe, unlike so many poor souls in ipswich and brissie.
paul.
Thanks for letting us know Paul. Have you heard any more from MickD and family?
Rained all night here last night. Couldn't sleep through it thinking about how dangerous all this water is. (We had 63mm and lots more to come in the next 2-3 days). Still nowhere near as devastating as you guys.
Stay safe.

worrying that we've heard nothing from our other local members like brimo, hope everyone is ok.

Hope you're all safe up there. It's a disaster on a gigantic scale when you consider the area affected.
The generosity of QLD to Vic with the fires was huge and it will return North now.
Life is good in Christchurch except for the earthquake and after shocks. As I was reading your reply the house shook again. Luck would have it I have a new house and that there hasn't been any damage. ChCh is now up to over 4000 after shocks.
Are you still running your tyres flat so you can touch the ground ;D
Regards Brendan

see, now that's just mean! besides, even with my "flat" tyres i seem to recall you being behind me............ ;D
Monsterdorf and family are surrounded by water but still okay as of 3 hours ago. [thumbsup]
I still haven't been able to get in contact with a mate and his wife near Toowoomba.
I don't think their horses would of faired well seeing that they kept down the range where the flood was heading.
Looks like my sisters house will go under tonight, she has just been evacuated. Very close to the Brisbane River , Yeronga area.....
Hang on in NSW, as they are about to go under too!
Mmick
Tomorrow morning is meant to be D day for brissy so all fingers and toes cross
I've just seen the 300 tonne walk way bridge go sailing down the Brisbane River!
Do hope everyone is safe and well, property and possessions can be replaced but you cannot be.
Watching the vision is like looking at a giant film set but it's real.... So devastating
What more can i say, be safe and stay safe.
Bright sunshine here today after weeks of rain, the wet riding gear can finally dry out. I am just near yeronga where the houses went under, bloody awful. Just came down riverside drive (M3), tons of crap piled up under the city bridges, the normally somewhat languid Brizzy river is a torrent. The floodwaters are already starting to stink, gonna be a while for things to get back to normality. Unfortunately for some, (particularly in the Lockyer valley) things will never be the same.
Glad to hear your ok Brimo, take care and be safe
Am trying to contact my mate again in Toowoomba today.
Still no luck. Does anyone know if any mobile phones are working up that way?
It looks like where they keep there horses (withcott) I think thats how you spell it, was hit by a wall of water.
I suspect this was not long before it got to Grantham.
I hope all Qld and Northern NSW DMFers are safe and well at this horrific time.
Vossy, 3 days and no contact? I think I would be getting in touch with the authorities. There may be a list of people who made it safely to evacuation centres or staying with friends.
From what I have heard, mobile reception is patchy. Power is patchy. There's all sorts of reasons why their mobiles may not be working.
I've been able to see that Monsterdorf is still okay as he and his wife can occasionally get on facebook.
I hope your friends turn up okay. Fingers crossed.
My Cousin's place in Brissy has gone under. She got out with a change of clothes, laptop, birth certificate, passport and some photos.
Mobile reception is patchy up there she was saying, and a lot of people are without power --> no chargers --> no mobile phones.
Thoughts go out to all those affected.

vossy,
grantham, murphys creek and withcott are all virtually destroyed, from the news there's no one in these towns or areas so i would be calling the numbers and seeing if they're in one of the evacuation centres. i can tell you here in ipswich we're in the throws of reconnecting power but a lot of properties will need an inspection by an electrical contractor before supply can be reconnected. ipswich has had some serious flooding and there's a lot of misery but nothing like what's happened near toowoomba. I am truly amazed and inspired by the resilience of the flood victims i have spoken to while working today, there's neighbours helping neighbours, and complete strangers getting filthy dirty helping out.
paul.
Our landline is still down and mobile still on and off as is the net. Toowoomba range opened today. I'd keep trying to call ...good luck.
its horrible whats happened in qld, but in the midst of all this, did any of you know about the Brazil floods? over 500 deaths there so far!!
and now tas has burst dams and vic is goin under too!! :-\ ???
Not to take anything away from Queensland but how are our Victorians going. Heather how are you going down there?
Yep fine. Just can't ride on any of my favourite roads because they're covered in water or had hills fall on them. :'(
Thanks for asking. [thumbsup]
So is there anyone heather you can think of that we should be concern for
Not unless we know somone in the Horsham, Bendigo, Echuca triangle. Seems to be where the worst of it is. So I guess it will all end up in the Murray river and flood South Oz next. Look out Vossy/MrS2R it's on it's way. :o
hope everone got through ok.
all I can do over here is donate... [thumbsup]
nearmap has pics taken in inner brizzy on the 13th http://www.nearmap.com/ (http://www.nearmap.com/)
amazing. looks like the house I used to live in at Corinda was surrounded!
I live in Goodna and we were particularly hard hit. We lost everything but what fit in four Pajero loads, and a few extras like the car, the monster and the pushbikes. 80% of what was probably Queensland's largest video game collection is now headed for the dump. We were insured, and we were renting, so we're unburdened and living with family five minutes away.
We're doing well so far. Standing in front of our yard looking at the mountain of shit that used to be our lives was a bit emotional, but we're safe, warm, dry and looking forward.
Sorry to hear that NFG but you seem to have the right attitude to get through it [thumbsup] The insurance thing has been worrrying me, so you are definitely covered?
Bloody rental properties and their water problems [roll]
Best of luck mate.
Best luck NFG chin up and if there is anything we can do we will try and do our best for you [thumbsup] :-*
Glad to hear your still in one piece Lawrence. (And that the Monster survived.) Just think of all the fun you will have tracking down all those video games again when the insurance comes through.
i hope u part out the arcades!! a collection as big as it sounds there has to be some hard to get parts it there that are still good. im in the industry too and its very sad to hear... :'(
Finally got the word that my mate and his wife are safe, but unfortunately they lost all their horses, sheep and dogs, not to mention ALL their belongings in the flood.
I just got back last night after 3 days in Brissy with a mate of mine. We decided to go over and lend a hand in cleaning up.
WOW! what a sight, and smell ( I cried ) It was amazing to see strangers banding together to help others. Made me feel proud to be an Australian.
Unfortunately I was unable to catch up with my other friends there, but hey at least they're alive and well.
My wife and I are looking into getting other horse owners down our way to donate stock feed for the people in the toowoomba / lockyer valley area.
I'm working on transport as we speak.
Good to hear they are safe Vossy. And good on you for helping out.
Your are legend Vossy for helping out, so proud of you for lending a hand, and so relieved you mates are ok and living
Good onya Vossy,
Makes us all proud to be Aussies
Mmick
Got a call from Brian (my mate in Qld), he and his wife are heading back to Sth Aust once they sort out their mess back in Qld.
Will be good to have them back.
While we were in Brissy helping with the clean up I was wearing fishing waders to keep the muck / water out but that didn't stop the stench from getting into my clothes.
They still smell a bit even after one wash.
Ah well, looks like more rags for the shed.
The one thing I will remember about this disaster as long as I live will be the Smell of the toxic water. It made alot of people dry reach.
My fodder drive for the farmers / horse owners of Qld is building momentum
NFG, glad you and your family are safe and well after your horiffic ordeal.
Here's to moving forward.
