Title: New guy, Jacksonville, FL
Post by: Nazzy28 on January 24, 2011, 03:02:09 PM
Hey everyone. I'm new here on the forums, and jacksonville, FL as well. I've been here for about 8 months now.

I don't have any bikes yet, but I'll be taking the training course at the base. It'll be a couple months before I do get one, trying to either sell my car first or just save the money. Either way, I'm looking at getting a Ducati Monster 696. I read and heard that they're pretty decent for beginners, so once I get a chance, I want to at least sit on one.

Hey, welcome to Jacksonville, and welcome to the ranks of Ducati enthusiasts.  I have lived in North Florida all my life, and I just got my first Ducati in November, a '99 M750.  I've always wanted a Monster, and I finally found one locally with the right price.
Even though I love my Ducati, I am glad I have a car in this area.  Everything is so spread out in Jacksonville, you should probably keep your car for longer trips and rainy days, anyway.
Have you been to the Ducati dealer on Wells Road, Orange Park Powersports?  Nice people over there, and they have some sweet Ducatis on the showroom floor.  The service department is very helpful with questions, too.
Hope you enjoy living in Jacksonville, and I hope you get a Ducati soon, you will love it.

Jacksonville is allright. Personally I miss the mountain scenery that I had everywhere else i've lived. I recently moved from Maine, and believe me, I miss blasting downhill at unsafe speeds on my mountain bike. lol :) Plus, the scenery is just so much better.

Either way, thanks for the welcome. I hope to purchase a Monster in a couple of months. Hopefully i'll sell my classic toyota soon and use that money towards the purchase.

I've been looking at the Toyota MR2 as a possible next car.  I love to drive a convertible when I'm not on a bike, it's the closest thing to riding.  Right now I have a Miata, it's a really fun car to toss around,  although it's no Ducati.
I know what you mean about mountain roads.  We don't have a lot of fun roads around here.  Palm Valley Road used to be fun East of U.S. 1, but they've widened it almost all the way out to the beach now.
In 2008, we went to the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca, and spent some time on the Pacific Highway between Carmel and San Francisco.  If you ever get a chance to ride that road, you won't believe how great it is.

I've been meaning to go ride the Tail of the Dragon, but haven't had the chance to yet.

MR2 is a good car. What year? I'm guessing the latest model year. I had a '91 MR2 with T-Tops. Fun car.

The one I'm trying to sell right now is my AE86... 1985 toyota corolla GTS. Almost mint condition ;) Hard to find a buyer though.

Yeah, I like all the MR2 generations, but the latest one is more my size as I'm 6'-2".  Plus I love the full convertible.  Just wish they had put the four from the Celica in it, it has much more power.
Is your AE86 modified heavily?  I'm guessing most people don't know what it is, I didn't remember that model until I googled it.  Looks like a fun car.
Well, good luck with the car and getting yourself on a Ducati.  They are amazing bikes.

No. Hell no, my AE86 isn't modified much at all, just things that I needed to do. Couldn't find a stock muffler or exhaust system, so I got a mild aftermarket cat-back setup from HKS. That's basically the most expensive "mod" I put on there.

Here's a link to the ad I put up on club4ag. Plenty of pics. She's basically completely stock except for a few minor things.
