Got a little bored the other day, had a spanner in hand and decided to adjust the rear ride height up a bit,
holy crap what a difference, steering much sharper now, like it a lot, might have to go out now and play some more.
Just watch the high speed stuff spider brimo a tank slappy may be lurking within [moto]
tell me something new; mine is as high as it could go

...test it by riding fast and avoiding manholes in a last moment ;D
the steering gets rather nervous at speeds and in bumpy corners though

See that's what I mean!
This sort of stuff belongs in TOOMSAT!
Carry on. :P
So back to suspension.
Brimo, what have you found so far?
I have changed to a 120/70 on the front from a 120/60
better roll in & out of corners but slower to steer.
So I am thinking about taking the back up a little as well to see if I can speed up the turn-in.
If you do pop back in here, let us know where you're at.
cheers
Matty...
FINALLY
this thread had (still has) a potential to become interesting.....that was lost after a few posts in an avalanche of crap.....you, guys, wanna talk shit? use the thread provided for this very reason.....
maybe at last i will be able to find out something about suspension, its adjustement etc etc??

+1, that's why I created it. ;)

Ummm, weren't you one of those contributing to the thread jack though. ;) but a good idea to start the "say anything" thread.
and me being a grumpy bastard, asked the moderator about the threadjacks and I was politely told to STFU and GTFO
However back to the topic: rear ride height raised by 20mm improved turn in (maybe a bit too much), tracked well on tight turns up the back of the gold coast. a bit less tendency to wallow on bumpy faster corners as well, will do a few more rides before I change it (if at all) as it does take a bit of getting used to.
There has been some talk on other threads about dropping the front a little (5mm!) will give that a try at some stage too.
Give it a shot, doesn't take long just remember you've gotta adjust the chain as you go.
Great thanks Brimo, glad we got it back on track and that the change is doing good things for you.
I will have a go at mine soon, might even ask the shop to do it tomorrow while it's having a service.
Might not go 20mm then, I'll half it and see what happens.
cheers
Matty...

Yeah, but i don't count.
sorry for the threadjack. ;)
Brimo and co.
glad to back on the right channel...
so how does one adjust the ride height?
(the m1000 has adjustable height)....
go slow with the directions....not the most mechanical bloke out there (boy am I having fun with the exhaust!)
where do I look to see how much height I have to adjust on the bar?
cheers and thanks in advance

matty, i'd like to hear your reaction to the change; it will feel great around the city but it does make a bike nervous at speeds on a bumpy roads
That's why I will go up only a small amount.
Yes, definitely better in the traffic and slow stuff around town, a bit more skittish in the front on bumpy stuff but less roll around in the arse end. And as dukes are'nt the quickest steering of bikes in the first place not too bad.
Directions, look under the bike next to the shock and you will see a rod with thread and a nut on either end.
Measure the overall length. If you can't get a ruler in there, use a piece of string (yes, seriously!) and then measure it. Write this down for future reference.
Undo the nuts on either end (marked ten and 12 in the drawing) . Spin the rod and it will change length, measure again to see how far you have gone. maybe try 10 mm first. Tighten the nuts. Adjust your chain. try it out.
Will look for some pics and links and post em up
Oh yes don't forget the nut with the groove on it is a left hand thread,(righty loosey not lefty loosey)
This should do, on mine did not have to remove the rod
(http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm259/andrewb172/bike/S2R06.jpg)
Brimo,
That's great thanks for that, will go check it out now and see if I can manage this myself.
I'll go only 10mm and see what happens with that first off. Maybe even 5mm.
Thanks
Matty...

'fraid so
I realise, having been using the net since it was powered by steam (early 90's) that you will always get threadjacks, so called "net personalities" stroking themselves etc. but this site is getting out of hand, and I don't think it's just me complaining, I may be the only one that did it officially though.
and no further correspondence will be entered into on the subject I will now stfu.
Brimo,
thanks for that.
those nuts are 12mm?
and you could get in and alter without exhaust removal?
I went downstairs to have a look at rod and nuts last night, tight bloody spot! Madalf is coming over this saturday - he's a bit smaller than me - I might push him in there!
the idea about the string is sheer brilliance.
Mines a single sided swingarm and high pipes, so access is pretty good from the lefthand side, not near the bike at the moment, but pretty sure the nuts were bigger than 12mm probably 17mm and were very tight.
Went out 2 up yesterday, [moto] hell of an improvement. 'cept the boss needed a stepladder to climb on.
just like mine.....and the lean @ parking is a pain too.......but it's all forgotten once you ride it [thumbsup]
