I thought I'd post and see if I am likely to run into any problems. I was rather clumsy and kicked my left rear indicator off my 1100S. Unfortunately the bit that broke was the (stupidly flimsy) attachment point on the big plastic mud-flap thingy. Frasers can order me a replacement but as I was on the verge of going for a tail chop anyway this seemed a good excuse. I have gone with the Ducati Performance one as I believe it replaces the existing parts without any cutting etc and could be swapped back, if I ever wanted. Has anybody done this conversion? Is it as easy as it sounds?
Thanks
I have a Evotech unit which replaced all of that big ugly plastic section.
It came as a complete replacement kit and was about $150 from memory.
It took about a hour to fit and cant imagine the DP one taking any longer.
A couple of gripes with my unit:
1. Only has one LED light and it is a bit hard to see the Plate
2. Had to bend the corners of the plate to fit between the Mufflers
Stephen, I think you'll find chopping your new monster is more a matter of cosmetic transformation compared to the actual chop on old skool bikes where you have to take to the frame with a hacksaw.
IMO a chopped bike always looks better than bike with it's full tail.
If you are thinking about Evotech I know our board sponsor Carbon Imports is the Oz agent for Evotech.
As I said, my procrastination was disrupted by destroying the original tail. I went for the DP one as Frasers can easily order it in and I want to get this done before the gaffer tape falls off and I completely loose my indicator! I also believe the DP kit fits right around the existing seat lock etc but that some of the others don't fit well on an 1100S as there is a little servo that takes up all the space under the seat. In some ways I'm actually posting to see if there are any problems I need to pre-empt, before the parts come in.
I definitely think it will look better.
I think Ungeheuer may be able to help with this. I'm sure he'll be along soon.

I assume this is because it has one of the longest plates in the motorcycling world (from WA)?

Yes you are correct, WA home of the giant plates.
Lila, How much muck do you get sprayed up your back, in the wet? There doesn't seem to be much on the underside of the current 'ugly plastic thing' so hopefully it isn't protecting me from much.
I should also confess that I'm booked in for my 12 month service soon and was planning on letting them do the conversion then, and not getting my hands dirty.

Sorry Stephen, Cant answer that question as we dont see much rain in Perth and i must confess i am not a very experienced rider and must declare at the risk of being made fun of
I am a fair weather rider only
I do go on the back of my hubby's bike in the rain and his bike has a small factory tail section and water and road grime is sprayed up my back. The Ducati Performance fender eliminator is longer that the Evotech so you may get some fling off but i think it will only be an issue for the passenger.
Lila,
I have the DP FE on order and it will get fitted when I run up my 1000k bolt-tighterner service (along with the full Termi kit). Can you post a piccie of the fitted FE so i can see what it will look like on a 2010 model please?

You need to host the pics somewhere and then link to the pic. Many people on here use Flickr, there is an FAQ here:

Hi
StephenC.... Nice to have another M1100s owner around OzMo - I been hanging out with the Yanks coz more of them are doing stuff to the later monsters.
So your DP tail tidy is IMO a good choice (yeah well I would say that wouldnt I). Its not the most radical - which some people dont like, coz it looks kinda stock, but less of it. To me this is good, neatens up the rear end garbage without screaming "come and get your revenue here" to [leo].
Its a pretty easy swap - although the instructions are the usual joke. It does accommodate your exhaust servo motor and the stock seat latch mechanism.
Looks like this..

A vast amount - if you're riding in the rain frequently..... prepare for the Brown Stripe Mod to the back of your riding gear ;D.
Not that I'd know anything about that, eh
H? [laugh].
PS: If you wanna get rid of that 1/2 kilo of exhaust servo motor..... I have the technology [evil].
Unge, it was a crappy day for it anyway. No sweat, the Gippy ride was just part of my transport onto other places anyway. (And the ride still happened without the Gippy expert (you) so all good)
Is this a pic of your bike before the custom paint?

Thanks Betty,
Now that is really bad when someonelse has to do it for you.
I do have an excuse though i am a Nanna as you so rightly pointed out.
1 beautifull Grandson and a Grandaughter due in 6 weeks ;D
Too young to be a Nanna, haven't even had my second 21st birthday yet
Lila we all help each other when we can.
Your bike looks much better with the termis - bet it sounds better too.
As to being a Nanna - yes definitely too young.
I'm a Great Aunty - not quite the same I know - but as close as I'll ever get.

No. And occasionally.... Yes. I'm a chameleon.

Show off [cheeky] ;).
[end threadjack].
Thanks for the pictures guys. Thankfully the gaffer tape is holding up as I'm not due to get the serivce done for another week and a bit. I've just put an order in for Rizoma indicators as I thought they would look more discreet against the small tail. If they arrive in time I'll ask Frasers to do them as well, if I try myself I'll probably break something.
Unfortunately I think I may have caught the, expensive, modding bug. I'd love to get rid of the pillion footpegs and that ugly silver frame that holds them. I'm also starting to come around to the attraction of bar end mirrors. Then there are open clutch covers, to show off my (increasingly rare on new Ducati's) dry clutch! Projects for another day.
My 1st attempt at doing my own modification! (And at posting a picture - so bear with me)
Frasers didn't get the tail chop kit delivered in time so it is still a project in waiting. I got bored so thought I'd have a go at putting the front Rizoma indicators on myself. There is no point doing the rears as the bit they mount to is soon to go in the bin.

As I'm not too skilled at this sort of this it took me all morning. I had to strip the ends of the old indicator wires to get the right connection for the cable harness but that went smoothly. Otherwise it was all pretty easy. Mysteriously I was left with a single nut at the end, I've no idea where it came from. I'm hoping it is just a random bit of garage rubbish, not something important!
It finally arrived
I won't say it was the easiest job I've done but I got there in the end and am pleased with the result. It's not quite as radical as some I have seen but is a big improvement and shouldn't attract too much attention. Ungerheuer, do you find that the numberplate lights don't really illuminate the plate that well, they seem to shine on the Rego holder instead?

After:

Unfortunately, the transistor thingy in the right indicator is broken so it doesn't actually work (but looks pretty). I'll have to order a new one
Here is what came in the kit:

nice thread guys bikes look good!
I have a M1100 09 and I just ordered the Evotech tail tidy with Rizoma AVIO 21 indicators... cant wait for it all to arrive!
ended up getting all the parts and installing today. Gezz I can safely safe it took me a fair while to complete but I took my time and got there in the end. I ended up reusing the end piece (rego holder/reflector) off the stock one so it doesn't easily attract the wrong attention [leo], here's hoping anyways.

Mine's done as well, the DP version, a biartch to get back together though. I'll put pics up this weekend. Only now that I have such a small tail assembly do I notice that my Termi's are offset a little bit and the left can stands out about an extra inch further than the right, annoys the crap out'a me, I'm a bit OCD that way. Not sure how to adjust it though but brute force and ignorance will win out.
