Brian, assume you are looking for blends for espresso... Currently what I switch between

Mecca "dark horse"
Coffee Alchemy "goodness galileo"
Campos "superior"

All of them are sold online, but it's much nicer to go and pick some up and have a coffee and a chat with the baristas at the same time.

Mecca is in king street, at circular quay and now at ultimo
Alchemy is in Marrickville
Campos can be picked upnin a number of locations, I go to Don Campos in fountain St Alexandria.

All are excellent espresso blends, and all offer singles origins beans as well.

These vendors are all coffee extremists, where you can try other ways to prepare, such as as well as siphons, pour overs and clovers.

Campos - Superior (ill only go to the shop to pick up campos coffee, a lot of places that stock it have it on the shelf for ages and they dont have a roast date)

Allpress - Caramelo and City Blend

also check out the single origins at Campos as well. A the moment ive got a nice Ethiopian Lekempti single origin from them.

Ive tried for a while to recreate the flavour that the baristas at campos get from the coffee (and pretty much no where else that ive come across in sydney who sells at their shops). I think the trick is to run your water an extra 5-7c, slightly finer grind, with a tad less coffee in the basket. It might be completly wrong but its as close as i can get it.

the closest I will ever come to coffee is Iced Coffee (Farmers Union at that - best in the land!!).  If I have a cup of coffee I am like a kid with ADD on speed for about 2 hours, then have to lie down for 2 hours afterwards....

I am with you Matty - just wanted to join in!! [thumbsup]

now Tea on the other hand is a gentleman's drink - now where is that tea thread..... [cheeky]

I heard story a long time ago that the farmers union iced coffee outsold coke in SA. Not sure of the facts, but I know a _lot_ of people who swear by it.

Don Campos (who is not a franchised shop, but owned by Campos) have roast dates and don't sell any blends that are older than 4 days form roast.

Its a lot easier to get to (unless you are on foot in newtown)

I get my fill of Campos in Picton, he does a siphon too if you ask nicely.

Who'd have thunk it.

I nearly had a moment in the Coles at Cowes when I saw they brought in Farmers Union Iced Coffee (better than that other Big M crap and other tasteless brands) whilst at the MotoGP - and as for outselling coke (not the Ben C kind) I wouldnt doubt that.... ;D

In my humble opinion you can't beat freshly roasted single origin coffee.

I get my green beans from Ministry Grounds in Springwood NSW.

Our current favourites are:

PNG Peaberry, and

Indian Monsoon Malibar.

I do rate 7 Seeds and drop in every time I'm in Melbourne.

Might just be the right time to to fire up the Leva and have another  ;)

18 gram or 21 gram? I hope they were good to you. They stopped doing home visits, which is a pain....

Play around with the grind dose and pack until you get a consistent 25 - 30 second pour for 30 sec (or what ever your preferred measure)

Have not tried their blend..... but let me know your thoughts.

Think it is an 18 gram basket Nick.......what do you use.........?

had a 22, back to a 14 at the moment, going to try a 18.

Regarding beans, I've been flitting between Coffee Alchemy Goodness Gallileo, Campos Superior and Dark City, and of course, Mecca Dark Horse.

I want (read: need) a new grinder, and I've been patiently waiting for the Baratza Virtuoso Precisio to get to Au (thanks for the tip Bigiain). FiveSenses sells them but they are out of stock...

A mate of mine makes a nice coffee Nick, he is at "The Grocery Store", Crown St. Surrey Hills.....just up the road from where Matty had his exhibition........made me a triple ristretto the other day.....am still zinging......he uses a special 24 gram basket, naked head.......thinks that the Giotto may not like a basket of that size..........mine is a 14 btw, not an 18 like i said earlier.......Guiseppe is his name mate.........you should stick your head in one day.......uses Campos beans.......real nice guy, rides a 916 Ducati which is a bonus........I call in every arvo heading home as i am working at Paddington for a month or so......refuses to charge me  [thumbsup]

Thanks mate. Will definately check it out when next in Surry.

I'd agree that the Giotto would struggle with a 24. Went to alchemy today... Been a while since I was there since I no longer work in the area.

Just picked up some beans.  They were stupid busy, but still managed to have a quick chat with hazel and Dan. Nice new synesso machine they have.... They seem to be doing really well... It's good to see esp in the local area. If you have not been there, check it out.
