Been following the forum since I bought a 01 Monster 750 two years a go. Been riding as much as time and weather permits. Trying to do most of the work on the bike myself due to the lack of Ducati dealers in the area. Lots of great info and pictures on the forum, thought it was about time I joined. (Oh, and I've hit a bit of a snag.) :)
welcome to the board. there is at least one other member from your part of the world on here (stopintime is from Oslo.)
hope you figure out your snag in time for riding season.
Hello, EF!
I was just wondering - what is the riding season in Norway? I was thinking of moving to Norway in a few years time, but I am afraid that I won't see more than a few months of riding per year...
My Oslo season (farther south than EF's Trondheim) is usually April - November [moto]
The first and last month being made up by 90% stubbornness and 10% fun.
Depends where in Norway you live, and of course what your temperature comfort zone is when riding. I live in the western part of southern Norway (Bergen), and I try to have my bike ready for the season by March, in case of some good riding days, and definitely by April. I then reckon the season lasts until September, maybe some days in October as well.
On the other hand, I see people riding all year round (usually mild winters around here with little snow, except the last two years).
Further north or higher up (inland, mountains), the seasons will be significantly shorter.
Thanks for the answers guys. If I do make up my mind about Norway, it would definitely be the south of the country (Stavanger, Kristiansand or Oslo).
Anyways, I am really surprised by your answers. I know Norway is warmed up by the Gulf Stream and such, but I really didn't think that riding in March was possible. Hell, I'm in Romania right now (way south) and the max temperatures during the day are still struggling to get over the 0°C bar. And Belgium was certainly not fairing better - sometimes you were unable to ride before the end of April (except for a few scarcely sunny days) because of the damn cold rain that lasted for weeks. My riding comfort limit is at about 4-5°C and preferably when it doesn't rain.
So, in this case, Norway does sound good, yea! ;D
