Title: First accident in about 8 years.
Post by: Drunken Monkey on March 08, 2011, 11:05:46 AM
Going into work today, I was sitting at the front of a line of cars on the Embarcadero.

Unfortunately, I was hugging the center-line at the stop, and when the light turned green I got clipped by the mirror of the guy on my left as he took off.

In turn this bumped me into the Porsche Cayenne to my right.

Didn't drop the bike, but did manage to put a 3 inch scratch into the Porsche. And naturally the guy who dinged me took off.

Being that I'm a schmuck nice guy, I pulled over and exchanged insurance with the Porsche guy.

Lesson learned. When you're at the front of the line, hog the whole lane.

Beyond that, zero damage to my bike. Called my insurance to let them know IT WASN'T MY make the beast with two backsING FAULT.

At this point I'm wondering if I should file a police report on the hit-and-run part to further emphasize that  IT WASN'T MY make the beast with two backsING FAULT.

That blows.  But if it's your first in 8 years and there's no damage to you or your bike, that's pretty good in the grand scheme.   But that's what you get for tempting the Gods by bragging online about how you hadn't had an accident in soooo long.   :P

Yes.  For a hit n' run, I don't think you can do it online.  Go to a police station and INSIST on getting a report with a number.  They likely won't want to do one, but if you insist, they should do it.

Do you have cell pics of the Porsche and your bike?  Get them immediately.  If there is any physical evidence of you getting tagged by the guy on your left (your mirror moved, there's a scuff on your Stich, whatever)

It was a Cayenne?  Not a real Porsche.   [coffee]  I'm not even sure your close encounter counts as a crash.  Tradin' paint is par for the course on a daily cruise.

Glad you're OK.

Glad your OK.
I bet the D.B. takes/took that route on a regular basis... Traffic cam, local business security cam, etc. you can take advantage of
If you stopped because you are a 'good guy' you do have the contact info for a witness too; Hang the bastard.

They're going to follow up with the other guy, but from their point of view it's not my fault.

So tentatively... yay.

It's official, they are saying it's not my fault and telling the other guy's insurance co to suck it.  [moto]

I spoke too soon. Now they want me to stop by and have them inspect my bike. I already told them I checked to see if I could find any indications of where the car hit me and found nothing.

.02$
They always play nice first. Calm everyone down, get everyones guard down...
They do this everyday all day.

IMHO Don't let your guard down. Make sure yourbike is spic-and-span before you show anyone. Totally legal, blinkers working etc.
Unless it did get damaged.

For once I'm very happy with the fact that this bike is bone-stock.

+1 srsly... If they're gonna be asses about it, then I wouldn't lose any sleep about resolving the issue of "evidence".

Final word on this was a letter I got last week stating they consider the accident to be precisely  0%  my fault.

Woo!
