By chance has anyone seen the current Cycle Torque?
There is a full page ad from Ducati stating that in May 2011 we will see a new LAMS bike.
Might finally start to de-value the 5 year old 620's that are still selling for over 10k.
Nothing as to weather it will be a de-tuned 696 or an all new bike. ???

NOOOOOO! MY RESALE VALUE!
I'm banking on the fact that the new LAMS monster will look like a NEW lams MONSTER and that people will still appreciate the older shape.

surely Ducati couldn't or wouldn't go back to the 400 monster. [thumbsdown]
heaven forbid!
Sorry mate, didn't want to burst your LAMS bubble!
But yes as you can see it is coming, I'm guessing it's going to be a restricted 696.
It was a winning formula before so why not do it again and they can then make a few extra thou on taking the choke off it.
maybe a motard?
its a popular theme with the youngens at the moment..
I thought there was an absolute LAMS restriction of 660cc regardless of power or cylinders? I know there used to be. This might be a sleeved down 696?
Was there ever a 695 LAMS model or was the 620 sold alongside the 695?
Bloody excellent learners bike though, I served my apprenticeship on a 600 which has taken me 9 years to trade in.... on another Monster.

Did some googling. From what i read it looks like a 659. 1cc shy of the limit based on the 696.......... Who knows if that's right.
No 695 was never sold as a LAMS bike. It was dropped once the 620 went out of production.
Apparently it is a 659. It was advertised in the SMH a couple of weeks ago, with the cover over it. A May release, I think. ???
So despite the fact that my resale is about to crash I actually think this a really good thing. There's definitely a market for it, and think of all those people who are now going to be able to enjoy the thrill of a monster whilst they're developing their skills.
A benefit for 620 owners is that the power restriction of a 659 will more than likely be electronic (ala SV650Lams) as opposed to the two bolt throttle stop restriction we see on the 620 - especially given that it will be a special LAMS model and there's no talk (that I'm aware of) of discontinuing the 696 in the AU market.
After reading this thread just found this link.

With the arguably sexier 796 surely now stealing sales from the 696.... you'd imagine that this announcement would be the death of the 696 in the Australian market, its reasons for existing are been undermined from above and below.
Yep I'd have to agree. Why buy the 696 when the 796 is there too and looks that bit sexier.
