Has anyone come across National Cycles windscreens? Wondering how good/reliable they are... I'm considering whether I should order one for my M796.
Looks like they only have two models for the new monsters, with a 2.75 inch difference in height (but same width), and I'm wondering how big that difference really is when cruising at high speeds.
Thoughts/opinions appreciated.
Dark tint, 15.25 inch.

The wind screen results are highly individual.
My three inch higher Zero Gravity lifted the air flow ~ 8 - 10 inches.
From looking at your options, I'd be very surprised if you'd need the tallest one.

Good to know - as I was in fact leaning more toward the dark tinted one.
Thanks for chipping in [beer]

Oh come on. Where's your sense of humor? I could take the time to properly dissect the design and elaborate on why but I thought I would be concise and just say it's fugly. And gargantuan. And fugly.
But at least it's cheap [cheeky]

No apologies necessary. I welcome + and - opinions. I was not expecting only nice comments, so thanks.

I also think it's not the best design, but so far it's the biggest I've found that could potentially offer the best wind protection for touring.
I also think the material it is made from contributes to the price, but will probably vibrate less and last longer.
Plus, it looks pretty easy to put on / take off, so it could be quickly removed once back home from a weekend journey, so the monster goes back to its normal looks for city riding.
i'm not a big fan of any of the current monster fairings either...
i'm sort of waiting for one that looks a bit more like the ones on the speed/street triple. more low profile, i would just want a bit more protection. but i can see how that will be hard to design with how the monster headlight is set so close to the forks.
I wonder what the reason is behind the screen over a screen look.
Anyhow, for me it goes against the whole Monster (naked) look - no fairing and no massive screen.
each to their own I guess

I think it's good so that you can put it on and take it off without having to touch your instrument box.

I totally agree. The nakedness of the monsters is one of the greatest things about it.
However, imagine you're going on a week long trip. I'm sure having a big screen will contribute tremendously to your comfort, so you'll be enjoying your monster, and at the same time not suffering from headwinds, which can really drain you at high cruising speeds (say 70+ mph).

he's gotta point :-\
But- I recently rode 575 miles over two days with only a Dart flyscreen installed. Worked fine, didn't dwarf me or the bike. [thumbsup]

Right-click the FB pic
If you use Firefox, choose "copy image location"
If you use Chrome, choose "copy image URL"
If you use Opera, choose "copy image address"
(I don't use Internet Explorer, sorry)
Paste that URL between [img] and [/ img] (<- without the space after the "/")
OK, so looks like a lot of you guys don't dig the national cycles screens, so here some alternatives (aside from the ones already mentioned in this thread). Opinions welcome.

actually not bad. only one ive seen integrating the headlight yet.
Agreed, that one with clip ons would give the 696 or 1100 a very nice feel! Make them more like the monsters of old

I like the magical racing screen most, but these all look good to me. I also like the large, transparent screens for actual wind protection when touring, being transparent, their size maybe won't be so obvious?

Hey everyone!
I've revived this old thread because I'm now in the same situation as jvax was then. I have at least three trips to the California coast planned this riding season and after the last trip being so rough, weather wise, I've decided to add some real wind / rain protection.
I'm looking for temporary touring protection and will remove the screen after the trips. So has anyone tried any of these windscreens yet? Which ones work and which ones didn't work out?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Dan

The problem with taller/larger windscreens is that they can create a lot of turbulence. A lot depends on how tall the rider is as well as the shape of the screen. Unfortunately the only way to discover if this will be the case is to buy one and try it out.
If someone who it a similar shape and size to you has ridden behind one the information is useful, otherwise maybe not.
Good luck with your search, and don't forget to let us know how it turns out!

Haha! Agreed!
All the options look that way to me, or a pope hat!
I was actually leaning towards the national cycle touring screen because of the size for true wind blockage and that it's clear, it might be not so noticeable, kinda like this.
