Title: Are the Oakley SI Tactical FR Gloves good enough for riding?
Post by: justin-branam on May 03, 2011, 09:35:59 AM
I have a set of the Oakley SI Tactical FR gloves and was wondering what your all's opinion would be on them for riding gloves. I guess "good enough" is one thing, but would they be considered good? I'd rather be safer by buying a new pair rather than finding out the hard way. Thanks!

they really aren't meant for riding, if you notice the palms are really thin leather and the tops have some protection but not much.

they are better than nothing but a good pair of riding gloves are probably better by leaps and bounds.

i have a pair of these gloves they look cool and such and are better than nothing but ultimately its up to you.

Awesome. Those are the "to the point" answer I was looking for. Guess I'll do some shopping! Any suggestions? I'd like something for warmer weather riding for now, then get some colder weather ones later in the year.

try the rev'it monsters if you're looking for a shorty summer glove.

Not a fan of shortys. I'm looking for full-fingered gloves, but maybe something with some mesh in between the fingers, or even some perforated leather.

"Shorty" in this case is referring to the length of the wrist protection, not the fingers.

Shorty:

Lots of choices - do have any criteria? Type, short, Gautlet etc. Construction? Price range?

you are limited only by your price point really, you can get gloves with a full guanlte nor none, mesh or leather, or a combo.  its up to you.

there is really no way to explain them all.

i suggest going to the website revzilla.com or sportbiketrackgear.com, as they have video reviews of literally hundreds of summer gloves, so you will have to sort through all those and figure out what you want and what fits your budget.

Thanks for all of the input. I went to a local shop and did some "hands on" (retarded pun intended), investigating. Looks like I will go with the Alpinestars SPX gloves for now. Also looked at the Alpinestars Stunt leather jacket and think I may pick one of those up. May have to go with one of the mesh stunts as well if the leather gets to hot.
