Title: Material for adding heat shield to boot...
Post by: DarkStaR on May 15, 2011, 11:27:51 AM
My Dainese Torque boots are going to melt to my Spark S Pipes.

I had perviously installed a heat shield to the s pipe to prevent boot melt, but it stuck out too far making foot positioning awkward.

So, rather than adding a heat shield to the s pipe, I'm going to add a heat shield to the boot.

I'm sure it'll work once I find the right material.

So my question is, what would be the best material for this?

Will leather hold up?  My Dainese Jeckle and Hydes didn't have too much of an issue, but not sure what they are made off.

have the same problem with my zard pipes on my sidi boots. i put a heat shield on, and i hate it too.
haven't been able to find anything that will beat the heat. i've heard epoxy works, but that's permanently on the boot.

The whole epoxy thing looks like crap.  I'm going for something that looks like it was suppose to be the on the boot in the first place.  I think leather should do the trick, just need to find some...

Here's what the boot looks like after a short ride while trying to keep my boot off of the exhaust.

I finally found some leather while shopping for 4th of july decoration at a craft store.

Did some heat tests...

Made a template, and finalized the shape.  It ain't perfect, but it is what it is...

I just used rubber cement as it'll make the mod reversible...

Now just need to go test it out...  [Dolph]
