I know it would be hard to make the choice in color but aren't you able to change the shrouds??
Don't know what they cost to replace, but couldn't you possibly buy each color whenever you feel like changing.
So each year you can change the color of your Monster.....

And I wouldn't be paying any attention to "the ron" he seems to enjoy bashing more than being positive about anything.
If he feels that strongly he should pick up his keyboard and write Ducati about there design shift, instead of pouring shit on blokes who want to share
there new duc's.

Anyways enjoy it, I am looking at it here in Oz but think I might hold off till I see what happens with the bigger bikes.

cheers

You can change the tank skins but not the trellis color. Still, I could change to black on red or white on red.

Any combination looks good imo! ;D

yeah agree, I like the style.
Know you can't change the frame colour
but with a red frame and white shroud you could like very much like an S4RS.
White, red frame, white wheels.....
Or 695 red frame, black paint.

if you think that the 696 looks better than that awesome bike in your posts, i am assuming that it is yours, you are mistaken. the new 696 is now and will always be a poor substitute for the original monster >:(

the ron [evil]

oh and i am tired of writing ducati there customer services is awful. if you have anydoubt about that look at pg 136 of the july issue of motorcyclist magazine [popcorn] and i would do anything, anything to confront one of the marketing idiots that designed the new monster and inform them on how they destroyed the monster and made it just another sport bike looking thing.  oh by the way the new monster 1200 is on the cover of the same issue of motorcyclist magazine

Ron,

Did you test drive a 696? When you're riding the bike you can only see whats coming at you so the looks wont bug you. If you are a monster fan; I think you should give the bike the benefit of the doubt by atleast riding it. It absolutely amazing! Be open minded and try the bike before you bash it.

I'm completely new to riding. Bought a JAP bike last year October; rode it until the snow kicked in New York. Saw the 696 on the Ducati website and feel in love with it. I'm still a novice and this is my first Ducati but this is by far the best riding experience for me. The clutch is amazing!

I've been apart of forums before but I must say; you're shitting on other people's high moments.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for your feedback and the wealth of information!

<admin hat>

See, the problem with leaving your posts that violate the guidelines hanging around is that when an admin who wasn't online when you posted it comes back to work on Monday and sees it, he may react differently than the other admins.

the ron, I told you very clearly on June 5th to stop crapping in people's thread's.   We're not moderating your thoughts and opinions on the 696, we're moderating your threadjacking.   It's getting very tiring fielding complaints about you and very tiring handing out temp bans to those who attack you out of frustration too.  24 hours this time.    When you get back, and as we have asked/told several times already,  please try to confine your thoughts on the subject to threads you start or threads where people ask.

<admin hat>

Binary,  enjoy the scoot.   We expect those ride reports soon.

guys we are all adults here.

why do you care if 1 person or more "disses" your ride or says "its ugly", and then you get all bent out of shape?

didn't you guys get past grade school and learn that you just have to ignore posts that you may not agree with?

you say "i like my bike, check it out"... someone else says "cool i agree" and now you are happy, someone else says "i think its ugly" and then you get bent out of shape, and then say "why you dissing me bro?" and take things all personally.

wtf? learn to not care or just post the one post in reply saying "i dont agree with you, good luck., etc".. you dont have to make it into a pissing match about "who disses who and why and why this person or that person disses everyone and you don't like that or etc"

i will say that i do like certain design elements from teh 696, if they would only make some nicer saddle bags for the bike like the old "mandarina duck" monster city bags, i would be totally sold on the bike.. that is the only reason i'm not trading my old 620 in for this bike.

I've been trying for ages to get a test ride on one of these... no go. They're all back ordered forever - so whenever they arrive, they're assembled and handed off to the owners immediately.

It's gonna be 2009 before i get on on one of those.  :-[

Dark was and is boring I think.
But maybe red panels on the dark frame will look cool.
I would definitely do something against the : "Hey, its looks exactly like mine" thing ;)
And no, I will not complain about it not being a 695 or SR2....this time

'The Ron' made this an entertaining thread to read. Pretty silly to suspend him. I can dish it out and I can take it. This would be a boring world if everything was all light and fluffy and yay! Bring back 'The Ron' [evil]

I don't personally care for the 'new look' monsters as well, why should anyone take it personally if someone has an opinion. At least 'The Ron' does it in a comedic fashion, I always get a laugh and I always expect to see it from him.

Roy sums it up best with "Oh, & ignore the Ron's thread-jack - uncool & uncalled for. He is our resident 696-troll."

Maybe there should be a ducatimonster696forum.org?????

I'm 99.9% in agreement with you re The Ron  [thumbsup]. The Ron crashed the '696 appreciation thread' - it was him against about 30 people, so his comments were received with a fair degree of humor as he was the odd man out. But I think this thread falls into that 0.1% - excited new owner, new member, fathers day gift from a loving family etc. I think if Ron had made the same comment elsewhere, it wouldn't have raised any eyebrows.

Lol - in fact, he did! Served his suspension with good grace, then promptly compared someones new Aprillia to a 696.  [laugh]

i can post that i don't like the silly child like 696 if someone posts a "here look what i got thread."

The issue is *most* 696 owners are:

1) new motorcycle owners and
2) new to this forum

Having the first thing they see is someone telling them their new, prized posession is ugly and sucks is no way to welcome people to this forum, or to the world of motorcycling.

It's not nice, and that's not the kind of place this is. You want to bash the 696? Start a 696 bashing thread.

There's a difference between expressing one's opinion and acting like a jerk.

And you come back from your suspension and resume polluting the thread which resulted in your suspension?  Sounds like a smart idea.

I too have heard of and mostly adhered to the suggestion that the best way to deal with a moron is to simply ignore him or her, with the hopes that they will go away sooner or later.  Obviously, I am new to this forum (since this is only my second post).  I have, however, religiously read a good portion of what is contained herein, as well as the "other" forum.  And I too am considering the purchase of a Monster 696.  I am not, however, a newbie or first time buyer to the sport of motorcycling.  I've been riding for the better part of the last quarter century (yes, I am a geezer...).  And, believe it or not, most of that riding has been on high performance sport bikes.  My current ride and one I intend to keep is a Gixxer 750, one of the best bikes ever built in my humble opinion.

Unfortunately, geezerdom is slowly beginning to catch up with me and I am in the market for something a little more user friendly, but good looking and entertaining.  The M696 seems to fit the bill.  I've read with interest all the commentary on recent purchases and am very happy for all the owners, regardless of whether they are "newbies" to the sport, or seasoned vets.  I know what its like to acquire a brand new bike, and appreciate that great feeling of sharing one's new baby with one's friends.

What ails me as I peruse this forum is the continued childish, moronic commentary provided by one, "the Ron."  Some of you say you find his scribblings "entertaining."  I don't find anything entertaining or humorous about him at all.  As far as I am concerned, he is just an out-and-out asshole.  He shits on peoples enthusiasm for a new bike.  He totally disregards admin's efforts to get him to ameliorate his comments.  And he just plain disrespects most everyone here who participates in this forum.

I won't ask that he go away, or cease with the moronic writing.  His kind won't because they just don't care.  They derive a sick, perverted pleasure in being what they are -- assholes, pure and simple.  And unfortunately, sometimes its just hard to ignore their kind.

So to all of you who are the proud owners of a new Monster 696, I say congratulations and best wishes.  I hope to join you soon.  Have a great time riding, because that's what its ultimately about -- RIDING, not what your butt cheeks are sitting on...

We all have the right to express our opinion.

Sometimes it's just better not to, out of respect and courtesy for the rest of us.

That's the situation here.

I'm not a first time owner and currently own/ride a KTM offroad bike, own a Honda VFR 800 and the 696. I love them all and have loved most all bikes since I was 4 years old. The 696 is currently my favourite and the other two have been sitting in the garage for the last month. The 696 is fast enough to get me pulled over twice by the cops in that  time.

Ron Ron [bang], I beg you to give it a break. But since you won't quit. I'm gonna play your game, I'm reporting your post to my MOM  ;D
I'm sure you are nice guy. I'm requesting you to kindly get LOST >:(, ride your bike, watch a movie, do something you enjoy  [roll].
But to honest with you, I know you'll be here to do what you do. Unless the MODS put you in a permanent vacation :).
At any rate. I wish the best of life to offer. ;)

Not any more you can't. You were asked many times to stop, and warned what would happen if we kept getting rtm's. See you in a week. Your next ban will be at least a month.

Feel free to keep slapping him down people, but he won't bee seeing any of it till the 28th.

Binary....you must be one of the best Dads in the world to receive a Ducati as a Father's Day Gift. That is something most special and I hope you have many hours and days of enjoyment riding it.
