I'm organising to go to PI for the motogp in October! ;D
Having lived over here in the west for over 20yrs,I've never had the chance to walk on the hallowed ground of PI before.
Best bit is, I'm gunna ride! [moto]
The plan is to ride from Perth to Canberra to visit my sister, then I'll be meeting some ol' mates from Lithgow and we'll all head down to the island (we have a house booked)
I'll be riding on my lonesome for the trip over but I wouldn't be surprised if I know someone from here that'll be riding back at the same time.
Really looking forward to it...
PI is one thing, but the journey is the destination...
maybe I'll catch up with some of you good people there?
Dude, you're riding across the Nullabor? WOW! ;D
Look up Vossy (he's the good looking one) and myself as you roll through SA! [thumbsup]
Not sure if I am riding over yet - did last year, bloody miserable weather all the way...found some hidden nuclear power plant down Heathers way, but at least there was a great sunshine when we hit GOR. Enjoy!
well done ....remember its the ride thats important ......but you will enjoy the destination................when it gets a bit closer we can swap details ..........i will be there and a few other oz monsters are bound to turn up..............regards hambo
Hambo you riding down ?
If so
You may have a couple of dogs nipping at your heels .......... [moto] [moto]
Thats if its not F'n raining
Oh it'll be raining I haven't heard of a trip to PI for MotoGP in the last few years that rain hasn't been a part of the trip.
yep ...will be riding down ...happy to have some riding companions......just for the record dez we wont go via Lithgow.... [clap] and yes wet weather geat is compulsory .....probably ride down the coast then over to Bombala then Caan River on day one then into PI day two.....will ride back via Hotham Kanchoban etc thru the mountains.......
The GP is fun but the Superbikes are better! With the GP you have to leave your bike in the lot and walk while at the Supers you get to ride it on to the grounds and around the outside of the track to your favorite spot, prop it up and watch. Don't like the spot, jump on and ride to another. And the best bit is NO HELMET!! It's all low speed travel on grass so even if you come a cropper and drop your ride the only thing injured is your pride.
You feel so naughty without the tin lid ;D
Have to agree the Supers are much more relaxed. But it's good to go to both.
Aaaah the Nullabor!! Did it years ago when it was dirt and bulldust on my old (then relatively new ;D ) K1 750 Honda!! [moto]
Now THAT was an adventure! [moto] [beer]
And yep, the "RIDE" is the thing! Amazing experience!! [evil]
Be a piece of piss now its paved! [cheeky] [cheeky] [cheeky]
yeah,I've heard also that the supers are better, maybe some other time...
dragon, that would have been an adventure! ol' mate of mine did it twice when it was dirt on his old vincent... with his mrs on the back!! then went on to tassie and NZ...
bigger balls than me! :)
yep, be easy now... specially on the ST3! :)

Heh, local natives, road trains (that DONT STOP for anything) bloody great holes full of bulldust that you dont see until you are arse up into them!! [moto]
Its a "soft cock" trip noe!? [thumbsup] [cheeky] [clap]
PILLION!!! Bloody hell! Now that deserves a medal!! [clap] [bow_down]
Well... 4 1/2 days on the road and here I am in Canberra! :-)
Wasn't that bad.. thank make the beast with two backs for the ear buds and mp3s!
Well done!!
How's the missus? Bet she is a bit sensitive in certain areas at the moment. (This is me assuming that she travelled with you otherwise that previous sentence.. Well let just say... er please disregard)
Anyway, the Nullabor is on my bucket list (ok ok, I have a small bucket) but having done the Birdsville and the Rock back in the early eighties (old I know) I like like being out there every now and then. Should be fun in a twisted sort of way. 8)
Mmick
try and do the barry sheene memorial ride from bainsdale and get to do a lap of pi [thumbsup]

Hey Mick, we must've been gluttons for punishment in the "Old Days" ?? [roll]
Doing the Nullabor pre bitumen with a couple of mates on our Old K1 Honda 750's, with the bulldust and road trains its a wonder we got away with it!! [thumbsup]
But a true adventure! I'm still digging the bulldust out of certain orifices!? [evil]
Gotta hand it to those old Hondas, couldnt kill 'em. Built simple and very tough!! [Dolph] [thumbsup]
Leaving Canberra tomorrow and heading to lakes entrance for the night with me ol' mate from Lithgow.
Missus didn,'t come on the bike she flew, went home yesterday. She gets a sore are after a couple hundred K's :-)
See ya's at the island! :-)
Hey Monsta,
Enjoy yourself while your over here, hope you get the chance have a run through the Snowy Mountains, cant do this trip but planning to do SuperBikes in Febuary.
Mmick
I guess it's a bit late to be asking now (been on holidays again) but who's actually going to be at the Moto GP on the weekend? What familiar faces can I expect to see? What newbies are heading down to test out their wet weather gear?
Monsta, if you're interested in catching up PM me if you can, or keep an eye out for a guy wearing jeans and a black leather jacket. [thumbsup] I shouldn't be too hard to find.
Enjoy the weekend. You'll have a blast!
As many of you know... Phillip Island is just about in my back yard..... and whenever I see all the bikes on the the road headed for the GP... my natural inclination is always to ride in the opposite direction.
I'm allergic to crowds. Call me unsociable.
But... I understand why interstate visitors get the idea VIC roads are swarming with [leo]. Coz these last few day I have never seen so many [leo] vehicles on the Bass Hwy :o. Unmarked Commodores... the usual Hi-vis Hwy Patrol... blue chequered Divvy vans... marked and unmarked [leo] bikes... Silver Mitsubishi Outlander speed camara vehicles.
Its saturation.
I'll be riding Sunday.
I'll be elsewhere ;D.
Hey Unge come and ride north with us. It's not that far really it isn't ;D ;D ;D
One of these days i'll take you up on the invite Jukie and come riding with the NSW crowd [thumbsup].
On Sunday I'll have dirt under my wheels though. Local dirt ;).

Not me unfortunately, I was planning to go but I still have my right leg in a cast until next Thursday so I'll have to make do with the WSB's in Feb. My monster is looking very sad for itself In the garage, stuck on the trickle feed, its had no exercise for weeks now. :'(

I am sure the weather will be much better than last year.....'cos I'm not going.
To everyone who is, stay safe, have fun and get back home in one piece. [thumbsup] [Dolph] [beer]
Home in one piece and what a fantastic result. Casey totally dominated. The weather held out (for the racing at least) and I reckon I saw a lot more Monsters this year for some reason. [thumbsup]
What a f'ken awesome weekend..
So many one off's
Casey... the trip ect
And I snaged George's finger from the side of the track! Keep an eye on eBay! :-)
BUT..
I rode the GOR today, in Warrnambool tonight..
What an absolutely awesome road, I'd have to say, the best I've been on!
And the coastline, it is simply STUNNING!.. so jealous of you people over here.. I'd move tomorrow if it wasn't for the weather!
Ah so you're in my backyard. Pity I didn't know earlier I would've come out for a bit of a ride today in this beautiful weather we're having. I'm only an hour from Warnambool.
First time at the Phillip Island GP also for me.
Awesome is the only word to describe being a few meters from a 235 hp bike doing 330 klm.
An assult on the senses , was lucky enough through Hambo's connections to get pitt passes , Luba and I became
instant groupie geeks taking photos of Moto GP stars.
But other than the great company the highlight of the trip had to be the ride over the snowy mountains into the Victorian alps .
The roads from Cooma all the way to the start of the Gippsland flat lands have got to be some of Australia's most enjoyable motorcycle roads, uncrowded quality roads with stunning views and the odd corner or two ;) .
We are planning to re visit for a weekend,
trailer the bikes to Cooma then spend two days riding over and back staying in pubs.

It would be easy to spend a week up that way just enjoying all the different mountain roads.
I was fortunate enough to get a few days in the area earlier this year and enjoyed all that mountain riding has to offer, ascending the far side of Falls Creek in fog so thick that you could only see 2 white lines on the road ahead, then down the front side in glorious sunshine. Doesn't get any better.
Also agree on the road between Cann River and Cooma being one of the best around.
Now I'm getting toey again... [Dolph]
Agreed to all the comments on the high country roads.... Friggin awesome place to be on two wheels...
Perhaps we need to revitalize the long look plan of a weel in the snowys?
