Title: integrated tail light in Oz
Post by: s4tunate on May 25, 2011, 02:55:16 AM
Hey,
Can anyone offer any advice regarding the use of integrated tail light in Oz (or even NSW)? I love the look but not sure how well the indicator works AND if anyone has been booked by the cops.

I have ordered the comp werkes chop kit, and was tossing between clear alt. or motodynamics (see link) for the light (the vizi-tech is too pricey for me).

Simple answer is that they are not legal.
A few have them but have also continued to use their normal rear indicators as well.
It was done by splicing the wires together.

Hey S4tunate

I bought an integrated clear lens tail light from ebay (via Hong Kong I recall) for about $40, but I didn't hook up the extra wires for the amber LED to turn on...   cause I'd be an easy target for a copper who knew he could me for two things instead of just one!

The first ebay light from HK was faulty - I complained, sent a photo, and they replaced it free of charge.  The replacement unit just sh*t itself last week too, but I operated on the circuit board with my soldering iron and managed to salvage the parts from two into one that works.

IMHO, integrated tail lights (although they look clean & cool  8)), aren't as noticeable as seperate LED signals.

Yup, they're not legal.
There was a thread not that long ago discussing said issue.

Main reason is the vehicle code stating a minimum distance between the indicators.
