I'm off to CSS in September for my Level 1 at PI. Is anyone else thinking of doing it this year?
BTW, what did the people who have done CSS do for insurance? Wing it and hope for the best? My policy with Swann excludes CSS because they aren't state accredited and I'll be on a track.

QBE will cover you for Level 1 ... beyond that you are on your own (same as track days). The list of acceptable courses may seem a little odd.
If you make a claim you will have to pay an additional 'Rider Training' excess though.
excuse my ignorance but what is CSS?
CSS = California Superbike School.
OFF TOPIC... What happened to the thread from 2008!?
Was Dock's open front g Banger deemed too raunchy?

ok next dumb question(s):
What is the difference between CSS and other courses I have seen on this forum i.e. at Eastern Creek?
Why is a California Superbike School being held at Phillip Island? Shouldn't it be in California??
The most often discussed course at Eastern Creek is the CSS ... or superbike school.
It is held in California too ... it is the Keith Code philosophy taught throughout the world. I believe it may be a franchise type arrangement and the Aussie mob alternate between EC & PI. From what I understand the course is run differently throughout across the globe but the philosophy is much the same.
Worthwhile I reckon (but it is expensive).

I've always wondered why I could get the Bondi Burger at any Oportos.
I think the Bondi burger has been replaced as has the Norm burger with something more modern.
And yes CSS is expensive but well worth the day out.

thanks Betty - you're a font of (rational) knowledge! [thumbsup]
Looks to be something we don't get here in SA :-[
So you'll just have to book into a PI one then won't you. Life is hard!! ;D
They tend to hold one just after Superbikes to cater for interstate visitors.
yep so do your self a favour ....save up and ride Phillip island at least once ....i guarantee you will have the memory long after you forget how much it cost.... [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

Sorry for the edit but everytime I have been to the Island it has been that bloody cold I can't imagine how terrifying it would be coming into turn 1 and not being able to feel your extremities.

[laugh] care to change your opinion
trust me ......if you hold the throttle open long enough down the straight .....the sight of turn 1 comming at you will make you forget all about your extremities.........................and remember if you dont like the weather at Phillip Island ....wait half an hour its bound to change................come on Betty you know you want to go......how about free accomm with me last few days of october for the school??
CSS isn't cheap that is true, $499 for the full day. This assumes using your own bike and gear.
Its a full day, starting at 7am with rules of engagement and then classroom sessions, inter-mixed with 5 track sessions of 20m each. The student to instructor ratio is supposedly about 2 or 3:1. It's held rain, hail or shine.
It finishes about 17:30, for the ride home where I imagine you desperately try and keep to the speed limit after doing 250+ on the PI straight only an hour ago. I wonder how many riders have lost their licenses on the way home afterwards? "Whatdya mean I was doing 185? I'm sure it was only 60 officer, true dinks!"
But you get lunch supplied [thumbsup]
Mind you I just cut my Rating 1 insurance over from Swann to QBE and saved $440p/a (yes, saved!) so that about covers the costs of CSS so its all good ;D

whilst you may say it is not cheap I bet the skills you pick up that may one day save your life are invaluable...I would be interested to do that at that price!

well if I had one ;D
as for PI weather - four seasons in an hour really....
Well, I was on my way to PI for my Superbike day on Friday 9th but yesterday I snapped my right achilles tendon and I'm crutch bound, so no riding for me for a few months. The really pissing off part of it is that CSS won't alllow me to reschedule my day. I've lost the $500 :'( I'm within 7 days of the event and they absolutely will not budge, even though I have docs to prove my injury. Not even a part refund to cover their costs.
I can put another name in the slot but don't know anyone who wants to go. If anyone here wants go I'll let you have it for half price. You have to be at PI for 7am this Friday 9th Sep.
They won't get anymore money out of me, I intended to do all 4 levels but not after this, not happy Jan.
That is a very generous offer, surely someone in Vic-bloody-toria would take you up your offer.
C'mon kiddies, pipe up.
Mmick
I would if I could, but I can't sorry. Hope someone takes it up. Are you a member of DOCVic? Maybe someone there could take it.
I filled the spot, with another Ducati, an 1198, so at least it was kept in the family.
Read this exactly 2 days late. Damn it. Hailed in Vic this morning though....
sorry to hear about the ankle!
The bloke who took over my spot said he had a great day. It showered a little in the morning but then cleared up for a dry albeit windy (it is PI after all) day and he had a blast, learned lots and thoroughly enjoyed himself :-[ *sigh*
