Goal is to to not have baby for 2 days. It is still breach. Just had sono. She had her hospital bag packed. I hadn't done mine yet. So, if I am sitting here for two days..this is going to suck. we were supposed to move into the new place prior to baby coming along. I know that plans change but she's most likely going to need a c~section. 3 story townhome is going to be be difficult especially with everthing on different floors. Can't worry about it now though. Just have to see happy, healthy baby first!! Going to get to sleep for a bit in this rocking chair.
I HATE BLACKBERRY WORD PREDICTION!!

Good luck to you both.
Dr said the baby could be in hospital for 3 weeks.
Dude! Good luck!
I hope I didn't jinx it by telling you I was born 9 weeks early... :-\
I was in the hospital for about a month, but I turned out normal... ;)
Hope everything goes well for the three of you. [thumbsup]

Doc wants to be safe and make sure that everything is ok beforehand..and "could be" isn't for sure. Mine was in the NICU for only a couple days and then they were able to send her home (and send a home health aide a couple times/day)...we'll keep sending all the good thoughts your way.

If it's frozen.
3 weeks - Don't fret Adam. It'll probably be less and it's not a big deal. Both my friends boys spent short stints in the NICU as they didn't feel like waiting to be born. Both are happy healthy and getting to be huge.
Congrats
Happening now!! Prepping her. Waiting to go in!
Yikers! It will go great!
But don't piss her off by over-posting during the event! ;)

Sorry..I've been telling the family/friends who've been visiting all day.
Welcome to the DMF..
"Maro Addison Adamec B___" .
(No, that's not "bacon" Bacon..it's my last name). [cheeky]
Born 6/1/11 His expected date was 7/23. Just a few weeks early!!
4lbs 2oz
18.5" long
"Maro" is of Japanese origin but it is also heard in European countries. Pronounced like "Mario" just loose the "ee" sound/syllable. I heard that name when we first got married back in '94.
"Addison" means Adam's son
"Adamec" is my wife's maiden name. :)
Mrs. IZ wanted Addison for a girl so I told her to use it as a middle name since it really
is a boy's name. ;) It is in the Top 10 most popular name lists (which I was trying to steer away from) but we think it goes good with his first name. The Mrs couldn't decide if she wanted to use that or her maiden name so she just used both.
First stranger to ask my son's name today. I said "Maro" and the woman next to her blurts out "that was my father's name and it's my brother's middle name!". My coworker also told me she had a friend from Italy with the same name. So, yes..it is a real name. ;)
Will post pics in a few! :) Happiest guy in the world right now. [Dolph]
*BTW..I just noticed that emoticon's label..Dolph. THAT is awesome!

Dude, I was born 9 weeks early. I weighed 3lbs. 12oz. and went down to 3lbs. 8oz. in a matter of hours. That was 37 years ago. Technology back then was nothing compared to what it is now. Maro will be home with you and Amy before you know it! [thumbsup]
Now, as someone mentioned, time to find you a house out here... ;)
[bacon]
Congrats IZ (& Mrs. IZ).
3-6 weeks will go by in no time. Use those couple of weeks to sleep at night. Might not have a chance once Maro gets home.
I remember you said that B! [thumbsup] Mrs. IZ's coworker was 2 lbs when he was born. He looks like Baby Huey now at 6'4" 220!
I'm going to use this time to move, sleep and get everything we need to take care of him. We're almost there. His arrival home can't come quick enough!! :)
Maro...
excellent!
Totally love baby IZ's (Maro A A B) name!
I love round doors, when we watched the movie I said so and Carl just [roll] at me...
My parents first read the Hobbit to me when I was 5 or 6!
I was 3 weeks early, just over 4lbs and I broke my incubator because I was trying to roll around, tubble so I was told, this was in ancient times...sure technology is better...LOL
Good luck in your move, Maro will be home with you guys soon!
Can't wait for things to calm down, Amy to recover, Maro to get bigger and stronger...and you and your family visit Santa Barbara Shire :)

Got it, Maro with out the "ee" :)
It was Lord of the Rings ;)
Beautiful Baby!!
Keep those little lungs developing!!!
Both my brother and I were way early... he more so than I. I was born at 3 lbs 6 oz, and he was 2 lbs 4 oz. I had clubbed feet, and he had a smattering of dysfunctions, i.e. under developed lungs, needed open heart surgery at three days old, died a few times on the table... my poor parents. They straightened my legs and he fought through everything. Now, we're both fully functioning adults (I'm 25 and he's 28) without any medical issues.
Being a father myself now, it's amazing how resilient little ones are. Everything will be fine. Enjoy every second you have with little Maro, they grow up so quickly...
Congratulations Mr and Mrs IZ [thumbsup]
Your pictures of Maro brought back memories of the arrival of our first son. He was eight weeks early and weighed 4lbs and needed a little support to begin with. We brought him home after four weeks. He's 15 now, a big strong soccer player who can out arm wrestle his ol' Dad :). But I do remember when he looked just like Maro looks now :). A few weeks early is very manageable these days and you'll all be home together before you know it.
[clap] [clap] [clap]
Thanks for sharing guys! it's so scary right now. Tears start rolling down my face everytime I see him. Not just because I'm excited but it kills me to see my son with all the equipment in place and the bruises and stick marks from the needles. He's kicking and screaming at the nurses though to tell them what he doesn't like. Little fighter he is turning out to be!

Yay BabIz.
Maro will be fine. A little early start is no biggy. As I said before, both of my friends boys came early and both are working toward being giants.
Last year some lady questioned the mom as to why Rowan (the older of the two) had so few words 'at his age' The lady thought he was older than her child of 3.5. But no, Rowan was only 2.5 and already taller than her kid by an inch.

The important thing is both mother and son are healthy and safe. Just make sure you visit him often and bond with him while he is in the NICU. Emma stayed in NICU for only 3 days since she was perfectly healthy. There was nothing more they need to do for her so they sent her home.
Congratulations IZ!

Maro@, now that's not nice.. put your father down...
Congrats man.. it'll be fun when they do or learn something new every week..
awww!!! super cute!! congratulations!!! :)
Cute pics!
It's amazing how tiny they are!
Since last night, Maro has had 2 chest xrays. His gases (CO2 level) were a bit high. He may have aspirated on some blood when they ran a tube down his throat. hoping it isn't pneumonia. Mom and dad get to change his diapers, take temp and do other chores to help the nurses out every few hours. Trying to be strong but I cry everytime he see him. I try not to do it in front of mom because I have to be the strong one right now. Its just very painful not being able to help and are him struggle and not be able to pick him up without 20 wires, tubes, etc running from every extremity.
On top of all this, our room is over top of a construction zone. Drilling into tyr concrete directly under our bed if make the beast with two backsing ridiculous! Starts at 8am through 6. Of course, were in the old wing. Supposedly, the othe wing is full.
aww iz! lots of good thoughts are being sent your way... my nephew was born 4 months premature. he weighed 2 lbs at birth. he had a lung disease & a heart murmur. he actually lost weight at one point & weighed 1lb 8 oz... he was in the hospital for over 3 months... but he survived. he's 29 now & 6'2 & completely healthy... it's scary because babies are so small & seem so fragile but it's really amazing how tough they truly are & love works miracles :)

No you are exhausted.....worry/stress leads to exhaustion....exhaustion can lead to skewed perspective.....which can lead to despair which is little more than self-pity with make-up and lipstick on....
the best thing you can do is get some sleep, get something to eat when you wake up...real food...not hospital vending machine crap
if you need reassurance...believe me then your wife needs 5 times that much....
she needs to see confidence and optimism in your eyes...you need enough rest to restore your perspective and give her that
not that it offsets your personal realtime I will share this:
my twins were premies....my ex was in early labor from month 5 on...she wasn't sized for them....we did everything short of stringing her up by her ankles and corking her to keep the kids in....they c-sectioned them out at almost 8 months and they went right into the incubator with underdeveloped lungs for 2 weeks
my son's head looked "bent" from the womb crowding....he is 6'6" and his head filled out (thank God) my daughter is now a mother herself
welcome to parenthood....IZ this is the shit that makes us grow old...and puts character on our faces
you all will do fine
I don't have the slightest clue what you are going through
But
I know sleep deprivation and I know stress
Listen to Rat and listen hard
Eat, sleep, shit, shower, and shave
The closest thing you can achieve that resembles normalcy will enlighten your POV and you can continue being the pillar your family needs

So...you're going to bring Maro & Mrs IZ to DIMBY West 2012, right?!? So we can start "teaching" Maro??

Pol...we've both held Maro skin to skin contact. Amy twice and I have once. Its a slow process. It is very reassuring though when I hear people I talk to say that they were a preemie also. Very optimistic but that helps my mindset even more.
Cool, so glad you guys are starting to be able to! I am sure this helps him and you!!!
Both my brother and I were preemies just a little over 4lbs and we both had to stay in the hospital a little, neither of have any heath issues. My two sisters were really large babies (just over 5 [cheeky] )
I know it"s a slow process it will get better, it had to have felt good to hold your son ;D
Yes, it was pretty much the happiest day of my life!
Good news today. PIC line placement was a success. Now Maro won't have to get IV's every 12-24 hours. It was actually more frequent than that. He's very active and a bit fiesty which may have been a contributor. Anyway, he may have the C-PAP removed soon because his breathing is better and they are increasing his food intake! :) :'( Happy tears!
Yay!!!!!!! [thumbsup]

Its tough watching the little fella endure all the hardware and needle pricks - our little bloke's heels were pin cushions from all the needles.... but 15 years later he's no worse the wear for it :).
He laughs now when we show him the little woollen hat he wore when we first brought him home - so tiny :).
Great that Maro is progressing so well [thumbsup].
Enjoy every little moment, they grow up fast.
Great to hear that Maro is doing so well! He'll be home before you know it! [thumbsup]
Dr. just took Maro off the C~PAP so no more headgear. We can finally see his little face! He is breathing our oxygen with just a little help. A small O2 tube with 2 prongs running into his nostrils is all he requires at the moment. Let's see how that goes. *fingers crossed* Dr also increased his nutritional intake. Well, he actually nearly doubled it so this not is going to be growing fast. He should be up to 5~6lbs in a week or so. The truly amazing thing is that he already knows a few gestures and isn't afraid to speak his mind!
That's GREAT news!!! [thumbsup]
It must make a big difference to see his face!
And I'm sure he'll be growing like gangbusters with twice as much food!!!

By the way, who took the pics? They are waay too in focus for you to have been behind the lens! [laugh]

I know. Surprised they are turning out so well..even with this BB that needs to be replaced.
This place (the NICU) is rough. Not sure is I mentioned that Maro is next to a 2.6 lb girl. On the other side of her was..up until about 2 hours ago..was a 1 pounder. He passed today. I can't even think about that family cuz I have to give Maro all the positive energy that I can but this is not a place ever want to be in again.
Yea its rough.. never want to have to go thrugh losing a baby.. I had 3 sisters that never made it.. set of twins and a loner.. kicker is, I would have never been born if they were.. I don't thank them enough for my life..
Sac and I are ooohing and aaaahing over the pictures. Sooooo sweet. We are thrilled he is doing so well! We are so happy for you guys and little Maro.

y'all look tired..... but a bit (lot) more relaxed... [thumbsup]
feisty man is no longer. No wonder the kid was always crying..he needed to clean out his insides! Nurse have him a little sumpin' to take care of that though and now we've had a happy camper all day!

Glad the little guy is more comfortable now, and great pics, Maro is so sweet! He looks so comfy and safe with mom, I'm sure Mrs IZ feels that way too.
Please keep the updates and pics coming, and don't forget to take care of yourself too :)
p.s. In the kangaroo pic he makes you look like a giant. Enjoy it while it lasts, cause he'll be much bigger before you know it -- in just another week! -- and you'll be back to hobbit size ;D
p.p.s. you owe me a pair of pants.
Hang in there man!
I'm sure it's tough but you guys are doing great. NICU is a hard place to hang out and not feel down, but remember all those people and all that equipment is there to make sure those kids get a fighting chance!
Just trying to feed you some positive energy!
great pics btw
The doctor increased Maro's intake Again today! Great news. Just had kangaroo time with mom for nearly 2 hours. We both came back to the house for the first time today. We planned on staying here tonight but both of us felt guilty as soon as I unloaded the vehicle. I'm sure we'll be back in the nesting rooms tonight. The great thing about that is a free room w/ bathroom. No shower but it works. The stories out of the NICU so sad but Maro's is going to be a great one! Like I mentioned before, the kid is healing well, breathing better and increasing his intake daily! He nearly crawls too...no exaggeration..in his bed and up Mom's chest. He's like a little spider monkey! Thanks for all the positive energy everyone!
way awesome news! :)
That's awesome news. He is eating well and breathing well. Before you know it, he will be strong enough to be on his own! [thumbsup] Yes, I agree, the NICU is usually a pretty sad place. I hope Maro and you can be the bright spots and bring some positive energy to others around you.

See? I told you so... :)'
By the way, did you get the email...?
My parent's couldn't stay overnight at the Hospital. Besides having to take care of my older sister, there were no provisions for it back then. My mom had to leave the hospital on Mother's Day without me. :'(
I was in that little plastic incubator box for nearly a month. :P
It's just so awesome that you and Amy get "kangaroo" time so soon. I'll bet that's a HUGE part of why he's gaining strength so fast. Never underestimate the power of loving touch! [thumbsup]

Back for more kangaroo time but with dad tonight. :) Maro was hicupping earlier and smiling after everyone of them. He actually reminded me of Squintz from The Sandlot with his grin, ie: the mouth to scene mouth with Wendy Peppercorn. So darn cute!

Thanks all! The move is done. Just settling in now. Maro is in his crib wearing his new pants and hat. The belly button is looking like its ready to fall off. He's up to 5lbs 4oz. Spent an hour holding this morning. He's focusing in more and tracking us. His eyes look like they might be a grey blue? Still hard to tell. Maybe we'll see in about a week when we can take him out of the hospital into the sunlight. Have to start work tomorrow. Good thing is...contract job happens to be 200yds away from the hospital.
Eye colour on a newborn is typically lighter-it'll likely change as he gets older.
Possibly to match the UPS guy.
Too cool that your work is so close :)

I had dinner with Maro's parents while he took a little nap. They are doing well! [thumbsup]
Good to know..
Thanks for visiting and for dinner R!
I was able to feed Maro using a bottle for the first time..the nurses had already attempted twice..and he finished nearly the entire thing. Pic line came out yesterday. Like RM said, he is finally in his own room too. The MrsIZ ended up staying overnight to be with him now that I am back to work. Hoping just a few more days until he comes home! :)
How exciting!
It is really awesome how well Maro is doing!!!
[thumbsup]

Fair enough :)
I still demand Maro pics once you have access to something other than a crackberry
;)
Here's a new pic.
Maro is now up to 6lbs 2 oz. This Wednesday he'll be a month old. It's strange because this has been the longest but the fastest month I think I've ever experienced. ???
He passed his hearing screening and his vision appears normal. Maro's been in his own room for nearly a week and is eating 52mL at each feeding. We're using a bottle as much as possible now. His goal is to finish 8 full bottles consecutively before he can be D/C'ed. We're hoping that will be next weekend! :)

he is so sweet adam :)
Awesome!!!! [thumbsup]
Thanks for the pic & update IZ, I was wondering how Maro is doing. He's so big!!! Glad he's passing all his tests and will be bigger, & home, soon!
:)
p.s. he's getting cuter & cuter - must be getting it from Mrs. IZ
;D
Maro had his feeding tube removed this morning.
[thumbsup]
Found out that Maro removed the tube. The docs attempted a couple feeds without it but had to reinsert the NG tube. Holding him right now. Just attempted some non~nutritive suckling a few min ago but he wasn't latching on. He's taking his time but doing great otherwise. 6lbs 3.3oz.

Being old and shriveled is no excuse. I mean-it didn't stop Nate in the slightest.
Nate's a chick?

I walked into Maro's room today and was suprised to see him on the floor. Not in his crib as I expected! At first, I panicked but realized he was in a car seat. Apparently, practicing for his trip home!! :D
He's been doing really well. Gaining wt daily. He started out at 4lbs 2 oz. He's now up to 7lbs 2 oz. He'll be 5 weeks old tomorrow. We're hoping to bring him home by Sat. Which will be my wife's birthday and our 17th wedding anniversary. That would be a great gift!!
He's tolerating bottle feedings up to 55mL every 3 hours. He doesn't cry more than a few seconds and is very mellow when he's awake. We're hoping this will last.
A few more pics. He looks so different as the days pass. BTW..the NG tube was removed 2 days ago too!

Nice one, 'Tini!
pic #2 sucking his thumb and tugging his ear with his free hand.....
I know that look
he is definitely contemplating his next moves
to make you drop any remaining clumps of hair
Things took a turn from last night to this morning. Maro didn't take his bottle. He lost weight, stopped breathing several times and had to have the feeding tube out back down his nose. The nurses are still preparing us for his discharge from the hospital. He's 5 weeks today. We're just really getting ready for the day.
Rat...that's exactly the look. His next move...either pull that feeding tube out or make a mess on mom when she's changing him.
sorry to hear things took a turn :-\
i know you really want to bring him home, but it's ok not to rush things. sending positive thoughts your way :)
Our best to Maro.

Just went there. His stomach is huge! Had to get an xray today because of it. Gained weight back that he lost though.
We need a Maro fix. It's been 4 days! :o
Hear hear!
