I gots me a ticket. A 1 in 1098 chance to win that badass bike is well worth it!!! Best of all, it's for charity too!
i want to buy, but whats up with this quote.
Due to PayPal’s terms of service, we have been informed that we cannot sell raffle tickets through PayPal. So raffle tickets are no longer for sale, but we are looking for 1098 contributors to our fundraising efforts. Once we reach our goal of 1098 contributors, we will be having a party for each of you. For every $50 donated by a contributor, they will receive one invitation to the party; contributors may donate as much as they would like, and will receive the proper number of invitations in accordance with their donations. During this party we will hold a raffle, and all contributors will be allowed to purchase one raffle ticket for each invitation, at a cost of $.01. Contributors do not have to be present to enter and win the raffle.
Just means that someone didn't do their homework.
That's new....but not such a bad thing. Us local guys now get to party AND have a chance of winning the bike.
Like DRKWNG said, someone didn't do their homework. They probably didn't have a letter from the charity stating that XXXXX is authorized to collect funds - PayPal requires this for any charitable contributions. Still a legit raffle, just can't use PayPal. Anyways, the whole party thing sounds good.
when i click it, it sends me to paypal. im assuming the party is the goods so they can receive it or something?
Yes, that's the way it looks. You are paying for a contribution to get entrance into the party. The party will hold a raffle event and is only open to contributors. Whether you can make it to the party or not, your contribution still makes you eligible for the raffle at that party.
I sent them an e-mail asking if you do not attend how can you win w/o purchasing the $.01 ticket. This was the response:
"Thank you for your interest. As far as the .01 for the raffle ticket.
We have had a donor step up and purchase tickets for everybody that
donates to the charity. That way nobody has to worry about being
present to buy a ticket.
Good luck and thank you again for your support"
So I urge you all to buy the remaining 1097 tickets so I can win this thing....
I think they've got about 100+ contributors so about 990-ish more to go!
132 tickets sold in the first week. C'mon guys lets get this bike in one of our garages!
im waiting for my lucky number to come up before i buy.
OK guys, I KNOW that there's a bunch of guys out there to throw down $50 for a 1 in 1098 chance at a $40,000+ superbike. It's for a great cause and they sorted out the Paypal legality.
HOTNESS!!!

I'm in.... paid for a "donation" as it is now being done to get around the paypal issue. Sent them mail asking a couple of questions and Dan replied properly and it all looks above board... your email address becomes your ticket number, apparently around 200 tickets sold now so anyone who wants a shot at a R variant of the 1098 should step up... I rode a friend of mine 1098 S for the first time a week ago, we went on a ride on a highway through the mountains in the desert here.... 200kph sweeping bends.....oolllaaa laaaa.....what a bike!
Step right up lads, good cause and all.
Cheers
I donated , seems like ok odds [Dolph]
Hello Everybody
My name is Dan Sugrue I am the president and CEO of Horsepower Charities. Its always strange to introduce myself as the President and CEO. There are 2 people in our company and when we filled our articles of incorporation my wife said she didn't want to be president and CEO which kinda left that to me. :)
I'll start of by saying thank you for your interest in this raffle. For those that are not from the Northern Virginia area, Horsepower Charities has organized and charity motorcycle ride for the past 4 years called the www.theunderwearride.org (http://www.theunderwearride.org). This year we were offered the chance to expand and grow which in turn would allow us to help more people. We jumped on it and hit the ground running. It was me who didn't do all of his homework when it came to PayPal. I messed up and made a mistake. I paid for it dearly with having to spend hours on the phone with Paypal. By the way on a side note. The people at Paypal are some of the best people to work with. It is fixed and that is why we are excepting donations. Also by excepting Donation you aa a donor are able to write off the donation on your taxes.
We are very excited to be giving this bike away. I am a Ducati owner myself and this Bayliss is one sexy sexy bike. During the photo shoot my I spent most of the time drooling over the bike than taking pictures.
Should anybody have any questions. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you again for your support and we wish you the best of luck!

Me too.

Hello everybody.
Tickets sales are slow right now. The main reason is we have been rebuilding our web store. This takes some time and as soon as the store is up and running again ticket sales will be back on track.
Thank you for your patience and good luck to everybody.
If anybody has any questions please feel free to email me dan at hpcharities dot org
We will be at Duc Pond Motorsports on Sunday Oct 16th for the Moto GP viewing party. Come on by and say hi. You can even check out the bike we will be giving away.
Nubbs, could we have an update on the count of tickets sold to date, please. ;D
Thanks
Mike

Yes just over 300 have been sold. We will be holding an event this weekend, If you are in the area stop by and buy some tickets.
www.theunderwearride.org (http://www.theunderwearride.org)
the bike will be an antique by the time another 700-750 tickets are sold. [laugh]

I don't see 1098 tickets being sold any time soon without a definitive raffle date.

Or at all.
lets say we average out 300 tickets every 5 months which is how long it took so far. so that means it'll be around 18 months. minus the 5 that has already passed, it'll be a year from this point before we see the drawing.
that is of course if ticket sales progress at the same rate. it seems there were initially quick sales and now it's slowing down.
pedro is prob right, i think there has to be some kind of deadline... if you set it for a year after you started the raffle that will give until june to get tix sold. what you will prob see then is a lot more sold quickly, esp as the deadline comes down.

question is what happens to the raffle at the deadline if all the tickets aren't sold?

thats what i think should happen too.
But it's a charity raffle.
Money raised, big or small, is afteralll for charity. If the organization is banking on pulling in a certain dollar figure, maybe they need to avoid raffles all together and just do fundraising.

CHARITY OR NOT...a raffle is for a prize...if you have a set # of tickets that have to be sold for the raffle to commence, and you haven't done it in an established timeframe or a reasonably extended timely manner that you completely inform the entire public of, then you need to cease the raffle and offer to return the monies taken in unless those folks choose to decline a return for it to be donated to the charity anyway....if you have a raffle with no specific number of tickets, then it is false advertising to have taken in money for an event that didn't transpire as advertised, then you are suiting up for fraud...
fundraising is an altogether different matter....
How about an update?
Yesterday my money was returned to my card with no explanation and after visiting the website I am un able to buy another tic. Anyone have any idea what is going on? An yes I did e-mail Horsepower charity's. No reply yet.
Has anyone else received their money back? This is starting to seem a bit off.

not for me, and yeah... it's getting a bit sketch
smells fishy to me. I wonder what their legal requirements are regarding either refunding the cash or simple drawing the lucky winner regardless of how many tickets were sold. My guess is that the contest holder has the right to refund everyones $$$ ......kinda sucky though [thumbsdown] [thumbsdown]
Anyone ask for a refund yet? I'm about ready to. [thumbsdown]
anyone hear anything from them yet? this is pretty sketch now... no updates on their fb page or twitter or anything.
I'm going to call Duc Pond tomorrow and see if they have any info.

Aww, this is a big downer. Would have been nice to see this actually happen. Hope everyone gets refunded without any major incidents :(
Hey guys, its Chad out at Duc Pond... A few things I can address for everyone.. first, not sure what happened to that FB post, I show it still being there.. I'm the mod on the page, and I didn't delete it. I really do apologize... Now, obviously There have been some issues with getting this thing to run smoothly... Dan and his wife, who are HP charities, have been put through the proverbial wringer over this.. between the state and the payment, and having to defend themselves it has been a challenge... Needless to say, there is a reason we are working with them on this.. they are great people and this is a great cause... Now, what you really want to know is how much longer, correct?? Not long!! Den has secured a booth at the DC IMS show, where he will be selling tickets, and if by some chance there are still some left after this, he has a booth lined up at the NYC IMS show... He fully intends to get this done ASAP...
Hopefully that will have answered all your questions.. if you have any more, just let me know... I obviously don't check in here that often, but I will keep my eyes on this one... Thanks so much to those who have already bought tix, and thank you all for your patience!

thanx for lookin out....sorry I had to Email you a heads up...good to have a firm update though!
No worries Zoom! THanks for the heads up! I know everyone is frustrated that it has taken so long... Part of the reason for the slow sales is the simple fact that most site providers wanted money up front to list the raffle, which none of us really expected.. that and Dan had to really defend the charity to the internet community as well as jump through a bunch of hoops for the state.. Their accountant basically told them they were good to go on the raffle, which it turned out they werent.. as far as the payment goes, that has been a major headache, but I think they are confident it is all sorted now.
Just checked and charity ticket donations can be purchased through the HP charities site again.
"Game On!"
Chad, thanks again for the heads up. I think there were a couple of posts on DP's FP page, one from me and one from thought.
Anyhow, thanks again.

According to HP's Facebook page they are thinking about dropping the price to $25 and doubling the amount they were origanly going to sell. The thinking is to speed up sales. [thumbsdown]
So if you bought a ticket at $50 you would get 2 tickets.
Great, so now they have to sell twice the number of tickets.. I don't do facebook (the root of all evil)but their website only shows the new sale price of $25 with no mention of extra tickets for people who paid full price.
Any Idea how many tickets are left after the DC show a few weeks ago?

I actually totally forgot about this thing... though their fb page says they sold a little over 1000 posted on april 25th. Which, due to them cutting the price to $25 and doubling the tickets, means they are only 50% the way there.
I appreciate that this is a charity and all, but... a running ticket counter would be awesome to see. And some kind of deadline to the raffle. The wait is getting a bit ridiculous.
A year long raflle and counting.
On a 2009 bike. [roll]
Does that thing still have warranty coverage. [cheeky]
Hope you fellas get a cut of the interest. ;)
Ducati waranties apply from the date of first titling. So hopefully they haven't titled it in the charity's name..
JUST in case your wondering what a 1098R Bayliss looks like.
Saw one today at the Dealer in Zweibrucken, Germany.

Question is... if you won... would you trade it in for a 1199?
But then again, we'll prob have the 2 more updates to the 1199 before this raffle actually ends [bang]
I would not even think of riding it. Sell it on the spot or trade it for a street fighter and if possible small $ change (somehow I doubt any change). That's my dream.
on the note of a different raffle...I saw this raffle and it reminded of the 1098R raffle and rules that perhaps could/should have been used...
http://www.audiclubna.org/images/forms/raffle_form_2012.pdf (http://www.audiclubna.org/images/forms/raffle_form_2012.pdf)
QuoteRaffle Rules:
......6. All applicable taxes, including any luxury taxes, are the responsibility of the winner
based on the retail or cash value of the prize. License and all fees are the responsibility of
the winner. $12,000 will be awarded if less than 2000 tickets are sold. $12,000 is
maximum cash prize allowable per Minnesota laws governing non-profit raffles. If a cash
prize is awarded, winner of the cash prize will receive the prize amount less required
Federal tax withholding of approximately 28%.
7. Ticket sales will be limited to 5000. Odds of winning a vehicle or cash will be based on
the actual number of tickets sold.
now I know that the raffle for the 1098R is based out of VA so some of the legal mumbo jumbo limitations are probably not too far off in difference...but these to me seemed like something that would've/should've been worthy of good limitations for considering
We will be holding the raffle on Oct 31st 2012. Tickets are still available for purchase.
Please help us spread the word. We need to sell a lot more tickets before the 31st.

Thank you
glad to see a final end date for this...thank you Nubbs.
Thank you everybody for all the support throughout all of this.
There is still a chance to get in on this great raffle and help out 3 amazing charities in the process.

Fixed your link for you.
Quick question for you. How are you tracking the tickets that were purchased when the raffle first started? Also, you might have said before (I can't remember), but the people who bought tickets when they were $50 a piece had their ticket count doubled when the price was halved, correct?
This open to the UK also ?
DRKWNG,
We know the exact date that ticket prices were changed. Anybody who purchased tickets prior to that date would no hold 2 $25 in place of 1 $50 ticket they had purchased.
And yes the raffle is open to anybody anywhere in the rules as long as it is legal to participate in your local city.
ok, winning ticket purchased, sorry guys [Dolph]
If anybody is in the Winchester VA area on the 31st we will be drawing the winner at 1pm. DucPond will be having a Halloween party in conjunction with the raffle.
Will you post the.winner here?
I will try to but it is best to follow us on http://www.facebook.com/HPCharities (http://www.facebook.com/HPCharities) or on our website at www.horsepowercharities.org (http://www.horsepowercharities.org)
what is the current count of tickets sold out of how many?
as of this morning we have sold a little over 1700 tickets. we have been selling at the rate of about 100 tickets a day. We have a pig international add going out today and am hoping to see record sales over the next 24-48 hours. I would recommend getting your chances to win now before its to late. Click below to get your chance to win.

Jame McCrae, he is a motorcycle and ducati enthusiast and was very shocked and excited when we contacted him.

"A 1 in 1098 chance to win"
so how many tickets were sold? I'm actually a little pissed my ticket was diluted but not about helping the charity. Oh well, I wanted the have the tax burden of owning a spanking new 1098R. :'(
I'm sorry you feel that way muskrat. I assure you that your ticket was not diluted. originally we sold tickets for $50 and planned on trying to sell 1098 tickets. That was not working well so we lowered the price of the tickets to $25 and than doubled the amount of tickets to be sold. In turn anybody that purchased a ticket at the original $50 had there ticket doubled to maintain equality. In the end we never reached the goal of 2196 tickets sold so in reality your chances of winning increased and did not decrease in any way.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me directly at dan@hpcharities.org
Thank you again to everybody who helped make this happen.
Just found out that the lucky winner is a guy I ride with in local DOC :-*
He's a real stand up fella'
I'll let you guys know how sweet it is when he lets me ride it 8)
