i am looking at either buying a pair of alpinestars s-mx plus or sidi vertigo boots. both are around the same price range. i tried on the alpinestars at cyclegear and they are very secure and comfortable but i have read a lot of positive about both. the sidi pair offers some advantages as much of the boot pieces are replaceable and have an easy adjust on the back for your calve. The sidi pair also has air vent that open and close. anyone have any experience or prefer one over the other
heres links for them

I can't really compare 'em as these are my first and only pair of riding boots, but I really dig the Sidis. They're comfortable and the leather feels as though its already broke in. Keep in mind that your feet might freeze wearing perforated boots when its cold.

It's Lorica not leather. [thumbsup]
make sure you test fit first... sidi's run narrow.
the only thing i've really heard about the diff is that astars tend to have less heel lift due to the inner bootie, but the front slider falls off easier.
Both great quality. A* generally fits me better so that's what I end up with most often. As long as they fit you can't go wrong with either.
I have the SM-X+ in white. I chose them over Sidis because I have big calves and wide feet. I feel like they fit me better (and the white is just so purdy).
The only complaint I have is the right one clicks everytime I take a step. Not much of a complaint though; I didn't buy them for hiking ;)
I have a pair of Alpines I've been wearing since '93. Still holding up! I picked up a pair of Sidis in '07. Love em and they're waterproof. Perfect for the year I spent riding in Seattle.
I'd go for the Vetigos.
thanks for the opinions i ended up ordering astars
I'm late to the party but I have the A* boots as well.
I bought Sidi Vertigo's but they were too small (from New Enough). The next size up was too big.
I switched to the A* and they fit perfect right off the bat. Both have the classic A* squeek when I walk, and they most certainly are not water proof but they're so comfy.
I'll cry when I have to replace them.
They have also survived 3 wrecks at the track, and the toe sliders do not come off easily.
well my astars should be in tomorrow ill post what i think after a ride.
