So about a month ago I decided to have my bike painted after a very minor accident. Well painting the bike turned into a bunch of new bolt-ons, which turned into painting the frame, which turned into wanting to clean and paint the motor cases, which some how morphed into total disassemble including dropping the motor and that is where I am now. I guess the point of this thread is kinda looking for any suggestions on things I should do while i have my bike in boxes (something I don't want to do again for a very long time). I just don't want to look back in another month or so and have a list of things that I wish I would have done. Also Saturday is the day I am pulling the motor so any pointers on doing this I would love to hear. Thanks in advance.
No advice other than I never loved the gray / silver frame, yellow much better over black IMO.
Black over red is awesome on the OG Monster. Seen some pretty green schemes too.
Good luck!
Do all your suspension maint - swing arm and steering head bearings.
Pics if you please.

Do all of the stuff that they said and post lots of pics!
I pulled a project bike down the bolts as well.......
Wish I would have smoothed out the frame welds.
I now have loads of pictures and will have the little woman assist me in posting them soon!!!
Replace all of the fasteners with stainless. McMaster Carr is great for this.

I'm gonna try and get some pics of them posted soon.

haha nice dog too
Was doing some prepping on the motor for paint and ran into this on the starter. (http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k535/c_baby489/bike103.jpg) (http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k535/c_baby489/bike104.jpg) So I had to take off the left cover. (http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k535/c_baby489/bike105.jpg)(http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k535/c_baby489/bike105.jpg) Did get these goodies back from PC finally some forward progress. (http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k535/c_baby489/bike108.jpg) Gusset on lock bracket came out pretty good if I say so myself.
So eventhough I haven't posted in this thread for quite some time I have been working on her. Here you are.....(http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k535/c_baby489/20120326_203639.jpg) (http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k535/c_baby489/20120327_212958.jpg)

Not back on the road yet but close she is at my local shop now having the carbs setup correctly and he is giving my work a once over being that this is my first time working on or owning a motorcycle. I will post some final pics when I have them.
Also to this forum in general there have been more than few members who problay don't even remember answering my questions there have been times where I could not have paid for better advice during this build. THANK YA'LL.
One more thing. I would have been completely unable to do this without my DAD who is the reason for me riding a monster in the first place. Thanks pops.
Now that my cheeseyness is out the way what do ya'll think?
she looks awesome, now go out and enjoy her

You wouldn't believe how perfectly that barrel worked out. I laughed at it myself but it really was just right.

lowering the gauges?
I don't know if I could its pretty snug up there between the headlight rings and the clipons.
Rearsets: Who makes 'em? Those look like they're really well made...
are those the LSL?
Yeah they are the LSL rearsets. VERY happy with how they are made and look but I had a little problem with the finish looking kind of milky. My best guess is they don't sell many of these and maybe from sitting in the plastic packing for a real long time left some kind of residue on them. It is hard as hell to get it off and haven't heard back from LSL yet.
Did you get them from Spiegler USA? I've seen them listed on their website ages ago and always wanted to give them a shot but for some reason did not (perhaps because I had not found them in use anywhere else to get any reviews).
I actually had gotten them from monster parts.Com but no one including spdigler had them in stock so they came to me straight from LSL in Germany took around two months to get them in. I had noticed the finish as soon as I received them but I didn't open them all the way and assumed it would clean right off I was very wrong.
Very, very nice job [thumbsup]
Any updates on this?
Well, you have a sweet bike. And you're really good at hooking up with chicks. Plus you're like the only guy at school who has a mustache.
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?
Haha sorry had to get my Nappy D quotes in for the day... lol
