Title: Rizoma/CRG/Oberon Mirrors vs. generic alluminum mirrors
Post by: The ModFather on August 30, 2011, 06:20:18 AM
I see generic Billet Mirrors for anywhere from 10 to 30 bucks on ebay and wonder how these compare to the name brand mirrors e.g. Rizoma/CRG/Oberon which go for 70 to 120 bucks per mirror. Any insight would be appreciated.

That should answer some questions. I've had both and both are very close but not quite the quality of the originals. I LOVE my Oberon knockoffs, the CRG clones were 'ok' at best.

The rizoma knockoffs left something to be desired.  I have one rizoma and one knockoff... the knockoff has rusting issues on the piece that is bare steel, the ano isn't quite as good, the whole thing isn't assembled as tightly, and the hole to mount it on the bar end is ever so slightly undersized (or the bushing/shims they provide are ever so slightly oversized) making it a pain in the ass to mount.

HOWEVER, once the piece is on the bike... can't tell the difference.  For the money, it's a damn fine product.  And worth every cent you spend on it.  Wish i could say the same about the ridiculous prices of rizoma pieces.

i have the knock off rizoma reverse retro mirrors, and then i got the legit reverse retros, so i can compare them both.

the build qual on the rizoma is amazing, and when mounted they dont move at all.  the knock off's vibrate on the bars, and shift pretty easily out of position.  the odd thing is, the knock offs actually do a better job of damping vibes compared to the rizomas.

all of the screws/bolts on the knockoff's rusted right away, if i had to do it again, i would paint them or get some other better quality bolts to replace them.  they came powder coated so there were no issues with ano fading.

I went with the Rizoma Spy R's. Never looked back

There's no vibration and they look awesome. Also, you could go with the Spy Q's, which are the same thing except square.

PJ's Parts stocks all Rizoma mirrors and usually has the best price.

ALSO, you get what you pay for.
