It's not too bad looking as it is, but I think it can be better and I need projects :)
My first thought was dark grey main tubes with red cross-members, but I think red might be too much.
Same thing with gold really....
Not that I succeed all the time, but I try to keep my bike mods quite low on the obvious-bling-scale. I like it best when insiders notice after looking for a couple of seconds vs mods that overshine the Monster birth qualities.
What do you think? (photoshoppers welcome)

Black or dark grey.
Color can be temporarily added later with vinyl, and if you like it, permanent with paint.
do it. black. really cleans up the look of the rear IMO
Black main tubes with red trellis tubes for something different.

that would be pretty slick
I have three suggestions:
1. RED
2. RED
3. RED
;D
Or, you could paint it RED!! [beer]
On second thought, you should probably go with RED.
^^^ You forgot to mention RED.
A beautiful swingarm is something I like to see. In the case of the S2R, I'd just leave it silver. Same with the lovely aluminum DSS swingarms. I actually prefer the older 848's and 1098's with their silver swingarm.
Having said all that, I'm at work waiting to leave for a soccer game, am feeling generous (bored), and did up the looks you've thought about:
Dark Grey with Red:

Black with Red:
Black:
Red:
All of the above look awesome, really liking the red trellis on the swingarm, good luck with the decision [beer]
I'm feeling the black! Do it!!
I'd either go all black or all red. The combo ones look kind of neat, but gimmicky IMO.
Just to give you my bias up front, I don't like flat, dull, and dark. I like bright, colorful, and shining things. That said I like the grey and red best but I think it would look eve better if the grey matched the engine casings. That would tie the engine to the swingarm and give it a continuous theme.

Black
Red makes the bike too heavy looking
Silver makes the bike too blingy
here is rmartin's ti framed mosnter with a black swingarm:

i think he ano'ed the swingarm, but i'm not sure... i think he posted about it a while back
he did, here is the thread, but it looks like he might have painted it or did something to make it a lot more glossy:

and personally, i like the black best. red stands out a bit too much and is a bit too "blingy"
I am kinda liking the dark grey (if it's complete grey).
Funny, black&red looks a lot better than I thought it would. If you want something unique... I haven't seen anybody doing that.

Did anyone suggest painting the swingarm red?

They did ;) ,but it's not for me. Looks better on white wheels though.
Csorins photos are a great help [thumbsup]
At the moment I like the red cross members - probably on very dark grey.
We'll see 8)
Do it........
you won't do it ;D
Black or dark grey. Red looks a little too. . . um. . . like you tried too hard. It's just too much. The mixed paint is going to drive you nuts, masking, painting and trying to control the edge between the colors. If you want the color break on the lattice, do it in tape. It will be easier and reversable.
Lots of places do dark gray or black hard coat (anodized). Considering the beating the swingarm takes from the chain run and stuff from the rear tire, a durable coating will look good. . . longer. Maybe more work than paint but worth it in the long run.
I've seen a couple of bikes with red powder coated swing arms like DucHeads and they look great... [bow_down]
Come on Lars its got to be RED... [thumbsup]
Geoff... [coffee]
not sure if i said it,
but match your wheels or your frame.

I'm pretty sure white paint/powdercoat sticks to wheels. ;D
[bang] [cheeky] [beer]
Enough with the red [bang]
no red swingarm!!!
One more vote for all red, I'll ditch the project and you won't see the great result [evil]
White maybe :o

Geoff... [coffee]
BTW Red is the fastest colour... [evil]
Especially Red Wheels... ;) ;)
Geoff... [coffee]
so what about the red then?
black w/ silver trellis?
Red [thumbsup]
I like the Black Red Combo. I've never seen that before and I think unique is good and its not too Gimmicky IMO. Aside from that where did Martini T get the logo for his glossy black taken apart Duc in the pic on this thread. I've never seen that before. Is that an official logo or a custom paint job? Its pretty frickin sweet! [clap]
Mine....

Basic black. Classy. Understated. But still bad ass.
so painting the swingarm. Do you remove it and have it powder-coated? ??? I'd love to do mine in black.

Yank it and have it PC'd. It's not toooo complicated...as long as the board keeps answering stupid questions that is.
LOL!that could be my next big thing on my monster [thumbsup]
Me too!! No impact on suspension or any adjustments required I assume when you remove and remount the swing arm?
Lars,
My $0.02. Because you have a red bike and red frame. I would go Red swingarm... or maybe RED! :)
It makes the bike look "simpler". The frame flows into the swingarm and makes the swingarm disappear. Isn't that what we are after? Simplicity.
Case and point. Red frame... red swingarm. (I know wrong side. But you get the idea)
I did my s2r black because the bike + frame was black. If the bike+frame had been say silver for example. The swingarm would have been left stock or PC silver. Simple.

Very nice! [thumbsup] I like the simplicity a lot.
Duck Off...you're correct, there is no impact on the suspension. Just support the bike from underneath, unbolt the rear shock, then take off the swaingarm. It's pretty easy actually. Just be sure to make note of the spacers and where they go (I've never done an S2R swingarm, but I have done a DSS Monster one and a SSS one from a Multistrada).
Back from the powder guy today.
First impression is a bit 'plastic', but that's how non metallic gloss powder is.
It'll look better when it's worn, dirty and mounted in it's natural environment.
I'm thinking about painting the weld seams black..

[thumbsup] Looks awesome I can dig it
well done sir, well done. that looks friggin amazing! when will you put it together? [clap]
Thanks guys! The colors are a little darker than on the screen (mine anyway), with the red very close to Ducati's anniversery red and the grey might be mistaken for black.
I'll update with new pictures on the bike in a few weeks.
Looks Sweet! [thumbsup] Now i want to pull my DSS and paint it. On a side note, where is your bellypan from?

It's a 'Monza' type belly pan - don't know the manufacturer, but I bought it from MonsterParts.
Thanks, I'll have to bug Jeff to get them in stock!

Not trying to jack this thread but I've never seen this logo before. What's the story? Anyone know? Custom?

I like the powder coat look. Ohmic nice wire hiding job on the Monster or have you not put harness on?
The Monster/MH900 SSS are the nicest looking swingarms. I've even seen the monster SSS used on a handfull of non Ducati custom bikes in magazines.
Ohmic, did you intentionally heat treat the exhaust piping on the MH to give it that beautiful hue?
