Title: New Female Ducati Rider in Central PA
Post by: ninjarfs on September 09, 2011, 05:52:54 PM
I have been riding for quite some time.  My 2011 696 Ducati is my sixth bike, but first Ducati.  Absolutely love it!!!!!!!  Just did my first multi-day trip on the Ducati with my husband.  His Tiger and my Duc got along just fine for the five days and 1400 miles, albeit in the rain for MOST of the trip!  Awesome roads made up for the rain!!  For some pics and the story, you can visit here:  http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,66400.0.html (http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,66400.0.html)
Here are some pics of my Ducati's

Hahaha......I have three and counting.  LOL.  After all.....a girl CAN'T have too many skins, right?!?!   [cheeky]  It came stock with the white, but they had the IOM skins on it when I bought it and I really liked the looks of them.  Just recently got the yellow and put them on today.  Really enjoying all the options!
Just ordered Rizoma Conical Bars and Risers for it to see if it helps with the discomfort in my wrist and palms.
Ride safe!!!!

Freedom of expression is what it's all about! I did this...

in fond memory of this! They have a lot in common in spite of 30 years.

My 796 has risers but I took delivery with the Rizomas. Lots of people prefer the sweep and additional rise vs. the stock rather flat bar. Should take some weight off. You're shorter than I ( at 5' 8") but you might consider the tech spec tank pads too as you can grab the faux tank with your knees at lower speeds to take some weight off those wrists. I have a bad shoulder, so they were a must..., again installed prior to delivery.

Have Fun! (Wish I still had your endurance!)

Welcome to the forum. The matching skins and accessories is quite unique.

@ William - I totally agree with the freedom of expression!!!!
I saw the tank pads, but wasn't sure i needed them, but i think i will look into them a little more.
Endurance?!?! - Just love for the whole feeling of it!!!!  Most people don't realize the feeling  you get when riding on a motorcycle.  It just takes all the cares of the world away and is sooo freeing.
Planning a trip out west for next year - it will be the longest one ever since I started riding.  Three weeks - one week to ride out, one week with friends, one week to ride back.  I will post a trip report during the trip.
RIDE SAFE!!!

It appears you're not much for gloves. Think some more consistent glvoe wear would help with your palm pain issue? It is an extra layer of padding.

Nice trip photos - but be ready for some ribbing. With the tendency towards IZ_ photos, you've accidentally tripped on to one of the long lived running jokes on this board. One of the other members "IZ" could never manage to get a photo that was in focus. Or if it was in focus then it had huge motion blur/shakey hands. In short, never a clear photo. So anytime there's IZ_ photos the photog and IZ catch a bit of good natured ribbing.

Though I'm still mixed about the looks of the new monsters overall, I am jealous of that ability to use the skin kits. That IOM one is SHARP!

Sad Panda,

Hmmm... Hadn't noticed the bare hands! You really think she rides barehanded?! If so, OUCH!!! Fit is critical too as they can't be either too tight or loose so that they bunch up. I must have more pair than Imelda Marcos had Guccis.  ;)

As for the new Monsters, ride one at 45 MPH to 80+ MPH and observe how little noise and turbulence there is. A lot of wind tunnel time was evidently spent on the headlamp, bikini fairing and mirrors.

Two weeks ago my 6' 3+" son spent the week with me because he had no power in Richmond after Irene came through. On one nice day we went for a long ride and switched off between my T-100 and 796. He was SHOCKED at how quiet the 796 was compared to the dirty air coming off the T-100 headlamp, instruments and mirrors. So..., see what YOU think!

Well - in the photos above there's one action photo with no gloves. One, about to ride w/o gloves, one I can't tell and one with Motocross gloves... So based on that evidence, it'd seem so.

ninjarfs - besides ther tech and general knuckle head sections, this board has a gear section of you;d like some other folks thoughts on gloves.

I find gloves very restricting, but I do where them more times than not, even though it may not appear that way in the pictures!!!!  I am all for wearing gear, but have tried many different styles and sizes of gloves and find them uncomfortable.  I wore gloves on this last trip and had light and heavy ones.  My husband has ridden the bike as well for a shorter time than myself and felt the same way (that there was something about.the position of the bars.  I have talked with other riders as well that had the same problem, changed the bars and now have no problems!  I am willing to try anything considering we are planning a three week trip next year!   ;)

To each their own - riding without gloves feels 'unnatural' to me as I've always done it, even if at times the gloves didn't fit as well as I might hope. But it did take some work to find ones that fit correctly. So maybe you're just on a quest for that ruby glove is all.

Personally, I've settled on A*. Their fit model works for me quite well as it seems by some folks standards I don't have hands, but bears paws. I always torture myself and try on Rev'it or Dainese gloves... XL are a joke XXL are too short and XXL are still too snug in those brands... So maybe you just need to shop more!

And as an aside - having taken a pebble in the knuckles at 80 that left a mark through my race-ish gloves. I'd hate to think what it would have done to exposed skin.

As I said, I do wear them most of the time!!!!
I will put up a picture of all my gloves when I get home.

To Sad Panda from my husband - PLEASE.......PLEASE don't suggest that my wife NEEDS to shop more......if you saw her gear closet, you would think you were at a store!!!!!

Gloves are good and good ones aren't restrictive at all in my experience.  Find some uninsulated, unlined leather gloves with external stitching that fit, rub a bit of conditioner into them and ride.  Also, it'll be nice to keep the skin on your hands when you fall off rather than leaving it on the road.  [thumbsup]
