The Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter is starting to look like a motorcycle.
There is still a lot of work and I am at the point where I have to decide if to fit a small fairing or keep it naked.
Exhaust system will be next.

Pin striping on fender, seat and maybe around a tank side grip pad? It's blue only, seen from the side...

Goddamn that's sexy
Thats Gorgeous! [clap]
Really really freakin cool!
A really nice half fairing would look great.
That looks great man. Give us a history/break down of the build. Where did that seat come from? Love to see more pics.
very sharp!!!!!!
Very nice indeed!
Wow amazing
How about a Paul Smart type fairing ?

I like it too. What kind of forks are those?
OEM Showa SBK forks from the 748-996
That's what I thought they looked like.
I have some on my 750 but yours look a little more polished.
The front end is alsmost brand new. It came from a 916SPS that was upgraded by dealer to Ohlins.
Yup. Same forks as 748-996. The fancier spec ones would have had TiN coated sliders. They work great revolved w Ohlins internals.
The 916 never had TIN shocks, they came out on the 996 models. These shocks were re-valved and also had a spring change and are perfect for the weight of the GULF Oil bike.
Uh forks... But I don't know why you are telling me. Dude had question on forks, and non-TiN 65mm-mount caliper spacing Showas (which were standard on the base model 748's and 996's) is the answer.
O my, forks, shocks, 65mm, TIN, 916, 996. You are correct, they are Showa "forks" from a 1998 916 SPS with 65mm caliper bolt spacing.
I was merely adding more "general" info. ;)
I found out what I wanted to know, they are not KYB's or White brothers suspension or Showas from a Gixer 750.
Quick update on the Gulf Oil Bike.
I decided to fit a fairing and that will be here on Friday from the painter.
I received the billet belt covers from SpeedyMoto and they look GREAT. Fantastic quality! See "before and after"
belt cover pictures.

[thumbsup]
Looked at H/M lines and end up making my own.
+1 on rerouting oil lines to left side.
Love those Speedy Moto belt covers and are on my list of things to get after winter gear. Not planning on parking it because it's cold.
Took the Gulf bike out on her maiden run this morning. What a blast and fantastic reaction from everyone that saw the bike.

Just awesome!
I some how missed this build until now, wow I'm impressed, hope my 2V SBK turns out half this nice.
Where did you get that tail?
edit: looking at it more, looks like the Rad Duc tail and subframe, good choice!
[clap]
That is one of the best looking motorcycles I have ever seen.
One more question, did you custom fab that exhaust?
Yes, the 2 into 1 headers are my own creation and sounds GREAT!!! ;D (Black ceramic coated)
Holy smokes. That thing is stunning. Was that the vision you had when you
Started?
WANT!!! [drool]
That thing is elfin' beautiful!!!! [thumbsup]

Thanks' for the compliment!
I knew from the start that the bike needed to be Gulf Oil colors. I own a Gulf Oil GT40 and always thought that the colors would look great on one of my custom bikes. The difficult choices were:1 Color of the frame and 2 if the bike was going to have a fairing. I am glad that I went with the Aluminum silver frame and small fairing, they just complete the whole package perfectly.
Looks pretty good. I'd like to see a better solution for the elliptical frame mount/lower swingarm pivot. Hopefully I'll have another batch of those pucks coming in soon!
Do you get your parts direct from Radical Ducati? I'm after a few things.....
exactly the kind of fairing I had in mind when I saw this build
Incredible work and attention to detail.

Let me know what you need. I have a very good working relationship with Radical and will be putting an order in for parts soon. [thumbsup]
Bexton,
I may have missed it somewhere, but I know you mentioned your business is cars. Are these bikes just for personal enjoyment, or are you entertaining the idea of taking custom orders at any point? Every bike you've posted here has been gorgeous...

My business is cars, CAV GT's (Best Ford GT40 replica cars in the world ;)) The custom bikes are a personal hobby and yes, I will take custom orders.
Well done. That is a very nice looking bike.
You nailed it - great job [thumbsup]

Beautiful!!
Is this the thread where I sign up for the Gulf Oil Cafe Fighter demo ride? [evil]
I'd like to send my SC down so you can give it a thorough going over.

So is my checkbook. ;)
I do want to do something with it though, as I love the bike. It's just too long of a reach for my back to handle. taking all the parts off/out and putting them onto a 749/999 though... [evil]

My son has been buying and selling a bunch of classic cars of late to Howden Classics in Zebulon and I've been down there twice in the last month. http://www.howdenclassics.com/new/about.php (http://www.howdenclassics.com/new/about.php) Next time he needs me for a run, I may ask to drop in if we have the time and you're available. Would like to see your set-up.
Was that your Gulf GT-40 in the pits at Heacock Classic last year at VIR http://www.virnow.com/event/guid-58 (http://www.virnow.com/event/guid-58) or perhaps one of your client's? Think I have a snap somewhere.
Regards!
Yes, it was my car.
Please come and have a coffee with me when you are down my side of the woods.

So nice!
What do you run in it?
Please say Windsor 408 stroker ;D
Please do not say SBC :'(
My demonstrator has a 400hp 302 CI motor with 4 twin choke carbs (8 open stacks)
We will never put a SBC in a GT40 replica.
Also have a 358 CI 560 hp FI car in the shop at the moment. Great fun!!!!!!
Found it. Not great art..., but in situ. ;) Thanks for the offer. I'm a caffeine addict.
