The latest iteration - anybody got one?
Test drove a '12 2-door the other day, with the new engine. Interior has come a long way. Pretty impressive, although pricey when you load one up with options.
Just wondering if anyone has any FHE.....
Been wanting one for the last couple of years. Just saying...
I spoke with my neighbor about his 4 month old JK 4 door. He says its underpowered and sixth gear is pretty much useless unless going down hill.
Interior layout, modular hardtop and ride got two thumbs up.
Isn't the new motor coming out in 2013? Pentastar?
Pentastar motor made its debut in the '12. Chances are your neighbor got an '11.
Yes, the Pentastar is in the '12 models. Night and day difference.
The previous ones are incredibly underpowered, had one for a rental a couple weeks back. :P
I had a 2011 Sahara that rode well. The jk suspension/ride has improved over earlier generations as has the interior. The 2012 gets a new motor which is a great improvement over the 2011. Took the 2012 out for a test ride and liked it much better. Mpgs aren't great for city driving and only improve slightly for the highway (2011 15/19 and 2012 17/21 according to jeep). And they are sturdy. Rolled over after hitting a tree and walked away.
Going to test drive one today.
Dammit, I was afraid I was going to like it. The thing pulls nice! Suspension is tight but wallowy in the turns. I don't like the painted fenders and hardtop......makes it look too shoe box like. The Rubicon has electronically detachable control arms for when you want to crawl up some rocks.
Sweet ride!
Heehee, I like the painted fenders and hardtop.
Hard to swallow the prices though. But I miss my '99 Sahara.....
I have one and it was an impulse buy (quarter life crisis). I will tell you that they are fun when the situation calls for a jeep Camping trips, heading to the beach, the blizzard we had last year and cruising up to the city make me glad i have it. the down side is that you really only get to enjoy it a couple times a year around chicago and when the roads suck. Recently I have been on some long hauls, 5 plus hours, and not having lumbar support really kills the back and the pocket book, although i think that lumbar is available in the newer models 2010+ plus. I like it but should have just got a pickup, cause although it can pull some weight pulling a trailer sucks, ride and mpg. it is a jeep though.
CJ-7 for $2k and an every day car is what I'm getting after my grand Cherokee takes a dump.
Got an 08 JKU Rubi. 4" lift, 35" tires, regeard to 5.13. Took the doors and hardtop off. Removed the carpeting. Haven't put any of it back in over a year living in San Diego.
Milage sucks (~12 consistently). Open feeling is awesome. Power is fine after regearing. It'd my daily driver and I would 't swap it for anything. Not a single blind spot. Good brakes. Some have developed a "death wobble" after they've been lifted. Mine's been fine.
Death wobble can result from zeroing your anti-dive angle in an attempt to save the front joint
Resurrecting the dead.....
Bought one on Saturday. Me likey so far. It's a leftover '12 Arctic (6-speed) that had been sitting at the dealer all summer, so I got a great deal on it.

Trade your sled? :P
No, my rapidly-aging pickup. My true need for a pickup happens once or twice a year....
Sled? Never!!!
(although if this winter is anything like last, it might go down the road)
You should bring it down to the guys at Dewey Dodge Jeep and have them wedge a blown Hemi in it. They offer a full "factory" warranty on the conversion. Because everyone needs 400+ hp at the wheels for their Jeep. [popcorn]
Yeah, there's a company about an hour from me that does those too.....
[evil]
I drove the third or fourth one they did...I liked it. But I like the SRT8 Cherokee better. The grouchy old man in me wants some Cadillac comfort in his off highway vehicle...
400hp in a jeep :o
welcome to the grave sweet drivetrain :'(

Should tear it up in short order.
I test drove one last winter and had the complete oposite opinion. I took out a 2 door ragtop manual sahara. I wasnt impressed by the ride, the power was just OK, the interior was 250% more than I want for a jeep. And they wanted like $28k for it!! I decided to go with a new GTI and put some frame work into my CJ-7 instead.
I wonder why they dont offer a "Jeep" version of the new wrangler...no carpet, no AC, no CD player...you know...A jeep...
EDIT: You can nix the AC...for a savings of $0. Way to be a help, Jeep.

'cause they'd only sell three of 'em.

I think you can get one sans options for about $24K....
bottom end sport is $22k
And I think theyd sell a hell of a lot more than 3 if they offered a gutted wrangler.
How many do you see on the road that are 100% stock (and not being driven by a 19 year old girl)
Just like monsters, most jeep owners mod the crap out of them.
If i could buy one for $16k and put that other $6-10k into a lift kit, tires, wheels, seats, a winch...id be in it for the same price as a Sahara, with a much better vehicle.
If you want a grand cherokee with a drop top, buy a grand cherokee and a sawsall.
My CJ7 was like $4000 brand new in 1979. and the drivers seat was an OPTION.
I digress. I was born about 2-3 decades too late. Jeep stopped being a company to me when chrystler bought them.

Funny that is what I told the sales guy at the dealer when I bought my LJ. I got base model everything except for the paint, an extra $150.
These are absurdly expensive, but gorgeous: http://icon4x4.com/ (http://icon4x4.com/)

Yeah, but look what your getting...I see winches, full roll cages, long travel suspensions and Dana 44/60 axles. No Cheesy interiors, speakers hanging from the roll bar, or other crap you dont need on a vehicle intended to live in the dirt.
And notice the A/C option on the top picture (CJ-3B replica)...THE WINDSHIELD FOLDS DOWN. The last time that was an option was the CJ-7/8 in 1986...big thumb screws on the dash. At the start of the Chrystler reign over jeep, you would have to cary a T-35 Torx bit to fold down the winshield, and that would leave you with the forward bars of the roll bar hanging out into no where. Another 10 feet of tube and the YJ could have had a real cage and functioning window hinges.
