The video is graphic.
The story makes me furious and nauseated beyond measure.
The driver has now been arrested and has said he backed over the child after accidentally hitting her so that she would die and prevent him from being responsible for paying the hospital bills.
I followed this from the beginning I heard about it a few days a go.
The child lingered in hospital and died today. It's nauseating.
Why do we need the death penalty? It's not a deterrent. It's waste disposal. Keep it around for people like that driver, for when there is no doubt of guilt and of depravity.
Don't watch the video if you have kids. I made the mistake of doing that thinking it was censored or something...
[bang] [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang]
It was the same way where I grew up , and most drivers would rather back up and kill someone than pay for someone's medical bills.
And if you get caught by bystanders after you hit someone , they would beat you till the time cops arrive to the scene which could be few hours and this led to most drivers just fleeing the scene and if that meant hitting a few bodies on the way out.
It's really sad but that's how it is in most countries where politicans think of just their own pocket and forget the people who got them there.
Sick reading this. No way I could watch the video. Can't on the BB anyway.
Wow.
Just wow.
>:(
Such a sad story. :'(
On a somewhat related note...since when did it become acceptable to put videos of dead people, or people being killed, on mainstream news sites or channels? Besides this, the local and US news has been showing video of Ghadafi for the last couple days. WTF...I don't really want to see that, and especially don't want my 2 y/o to see it (and yes I should be able to watch the news with my 2 y/o in the room). Unbelievable, can't show a boob but can show an actual dead person. [roll]

It appears as if they have changed the video. It is censored now, but the story is still disturbing.
I can't wrap my head around the fact that 18 people walked by a little girl and didn't help!
A little girl, not some piss covered filthy bum... I guess life isn't worth much in a country with 1.3 billion people. [bang]

Agree 100%
Unbelievable.... just unbelievable. As a father to a 2 year old, I cannot begin to imagine what it's like for that girl's parents. :'(
As horrible as the entire situation is, I have to ask: where were her parents? Who the hell lets a two year old wander around outside a market on her own anyhow? Seems that we're not the only ones headed towards idiocracy.

They apparently owned the market she was outside of and didn't see her escape outside.
I am not watching the video, just the thought of it is too disturbing. I did read the article though. 18 people walked by. WTF?
I just read the original link and it appears that she is still alive and fighting for her life. The article also states that two different vans hit the child. Hope she pulls through. :'(

Yes, that's what he said in some interview with the police. I can't find the link now. Absolutely nauseating.
Sometimes I think maybe it wouldn't be so bad if humanity went extinct. So many of us have forgotten how to be humane.
While I agree that what occurred is awful.......... sadly I can't get all worked up over it
Humans suck...we will eat each other if there is nothing else around to nibble on
Elevated standards of behavior, decorum and values, decency etc are what I refer to as "Full Belly Notions"
"Full Belly" in that we don't get a lot of conceits about what we are,, when our "lifestyle" is reduced to survival desperation.
If one glances at cave paintings they often depict the hunt for food. I doubt those renderings were executed by starving people,
starving people would be out foraging or would be eyeballing the neighboring tribe's stash...
or eyeballing the neighboring tribe as a meal, if food was that scarce.....rather the paintings and intellectual pursuits were the amusements of folks that had a belly-full of food and a warm fire
The preciousness of Life tends to become cheapened as the numbers increase.
Unfortunately the women/females bear the brunt of the burden of insuring the survival of the species as well as the brunt of limiting its numbers. Holds true in all mammals. One male can keep a lot of females pregnant so the number of females is "the problem" hence the Chinese and Indian female infanticide...actually infanticide has been on-going forever globally.
Clearly the driver saw a threat to his well-being....what he did was primal, it was a mechanical behavior of a fully reducted human creature not a "human being"
Like most things in life....it is better to view them from as great a distance as possible....there is enormous beauty in life... but it resides on the back of enormous ugliness
I can gaze at a mountain ridge and see something of wonder and beauty....I can also imagine or picture the wholesale carnage of nature going on in those hills that makes them forested and green....and pretty......bugs and critters ripping each other to shreds and devouring each other, the rotting remains fertilizing the growth of new things
The shoreline of the ocean is also a great scene of nature's savage imperatives....teeming with life and simultaneously teeming with death....but a blend that is wondrous and fascinating
We are a sad species, but we do have our moments....we can do things that ennoble us above the rest of the foodchain...but those things are more the exception than the rule
Couldn't possibly happen in our modernised western society.

One of the reasons suggested is that China has no "good Samaritan" laws which protect a person who stops to give help to an injured party. In the US, you can't be held liable for their injuries if you act reasonably (i.e. you don't attempt CPR if you don't know how to do it..). There are multiple cases in China of people being sued and paying large amounts to someone who was injured that they stopped to help.
I just feel good that we have given most of our jobs and all of our money to a people that value human life so much [bang]

that happened in NYC in Jamaica, Queens..., and the guy was a street-dweller.. no excuse. but i expect people to react very differently with children. people should help no matter the victim's status, age or whatnot, but i REALLY expect a different reaction with a 2 year old child!!

What I said.
You can't tell me that this sort of shit doesn't go on anywhere elese in the world, it just so happens that there was a camera that caught this one, mans inhumanity to man doesn't surprise me any more.
