I was initially bummed by the lack of luggage options when I chopped my tail and got a good look at those stock shotgun pipes. All for naught. On my daily work commute, I'll roll with just the tail bag, which expands vertically a huge amount. But I was a little put out for side bags. With the stock pipes it was hard to get side bags to work. There's a Givi thingee that keeps the bags off the pipes, but it secures to that part of the bike that went away with the tail chop. Enter the boom tubes. One of the cool things about the pipes is that they leave plenty of room for the bags. Which BTW, I got for (I think) about $65 on new enough. I've had them for years and I think they may have more room than most hard cases when they expand. Lord knows I have tested their seems and waterproofocity with my Laguna Seca trips. Loaded up with untold quantities of Gilroy garlic, wine, and Ducati swag. Anyways, it's really cool when you're on a solo trip, you've got all your stuff, and you can still get down in the twisties. $1.99 bungee net map holder is extra. :) The Monster is the most funnest bike to ride and I don't really have an issue on long rides. And I still have the stock seat! So I say pashaw to those fancy sport tourers! ;D
Thanks for sharing! Looks pretty good still. ;D
that looks about how my bike did for Yellowstone.
Remember to turn up your rear preload if the bags are heavy.
I love hearing stuff like <The Monster is the most funnest bike to ride>. I cant wait to buy one. I love to do long rides so want something a bit comfy but with enough stick to get my tilt on :)
No doubt, a blast to ride! Here is my baby dressed-up for a five day trip. This setup worked out very well -

the first is the trip from nj to obx(nc). had to pack a bit differently as my wife is with me.

after learning a lot from that trip, we made a few changes for the next trip. added the case b/c we needed a waterproof/lockable option for the camera and sleeping bags. we lost the raincovers for the saddlebags on the first trip to nc. oh, and this trip in from nj to ca and back to nj. 10,000 miles in 30 days. still managed to use up all of the tire in the twisties. you can say what you want about a loaded bike, but i can prove to you that an overloaded monster can still scrape the pegs.

Hope to do this next year on a monster of my own.
I've done a few sport tours on mine w/ soft bags and it has worked great (especially after changing the seat and bars, they are stock in this photo)

I love the posts of way too much stuff packed on ghetto style. Here's my baby on a trip to Sonoma years ago.
Here's a few of my Monsters all packed and on the road. The SV is my wifes. Some of these are old derbys, but!

That's exactly what it is. I drilled it to fit the stock exhaust mounting holes. And used a couple of zip ties for added safety.
