Anyone excited about this?

Oh, OK then.
I was seriously about to switch here soon. Thanks!
That does it for me. My wife won't put up with losing FOX and I won't put up with losing FOX and SPEED. I've been meaning to ditch them at my farm for over a year. I never have time to watch TV when I'm there and all I might watch is the weather channel and maybe a movie. Watching a dvd that I already own is about as cheap as it gets. ;D That will put almost $90 a month back in my pocket! [thumbsup]
Wait...this is in the Racing & Trackdays forum?? ??? [bang] [laugh]
This is just a contract negotiation issue between DirecTV and the networks mentioned. The channels want a lot more money, and DirecTV is telling them to piss off. They should be able to get it worked out, as it doesn neither any good to lose the channels.
DirecTV has a website explaining all of this...the address is given in the DirecTV guide if you are a current customer.

This website hosted by the networks (FOX)...hence them giving options for other cable carriers for people to switch to.
Nice double talk on their part:
DirecTV says Fox Networks wants a 40% increase. That’s just not true. We have proposed to keep Fox Networks on DirecTV for the same price, and on the same terms as they are currently carried while we attempt to work out a fair agreement. Unfortunately, DirecTV has decided unless they get their way, they are going to pull your favorite networks, shows and sports programmingInteresting wording...making it sound like they (FOX) want the terms to stay the same...oh wait...just while we come up with a new agreement. I guarantee they asked for a 40% increase, and DTV said no.
It's just business. [roll] Still need to ditch my farm Directv... the hard line phone too for that matter. It's not like I go to the farm to talk to people on the phone! [bang] ;)

FOX et al have said they would be happy to have the networks continue to be broadcast during the negotiations.
I'm not sure why DirectTV will stop airing them. It only hurts Direct TV ..
wtf boo!
I mean, Speed Channel is a poor excuse for a motorsports network as it should be called "NASCAR channel with bits of other types of racing sprinkled in when we run out of talk shows about NASCAR, and bear in mind, we don't actually show NASCAR races as those are broadcast on the major networks...", but I do not want to lose it.
To be sure, I had begun (half-drafted) letter requesting them to step up their game and broadcast BSB (which is televised) and to get better quality cameras & shooting locations at AMA. I really, really really really really really really want them to give Greg Creamer the boot. He is god awful. Mispronounces names left-and-right and interjects commercial sponsor names every other word. and where's my damn post-race interviews?!

under what agreement will directv broadcast these channels during the negotiation period?
fwiw, not being aired on directv will also affect the network's ad sales.

"We’ve asked them to pay the same price for your favorite networks, shows and sports programming that their competitors pay.
AND, we are willing to keep our channels on while we continue our talks, instead, DirecTV has decided to drop your favorite shows and sporting events November 1."
Contract negotiations: Fox starts at 40%. DirectTV starts at 0% and they meet in the middle at some point. All it is now is horn blowing and posturing to try and get the customer base on their respective sides.

definitely more for to blame the producer in some of that regard as they prompt him to do all the plugs...look at how they make Greg White look like an idiot...it is for the sake of advertising dollars and whatnot...but still....

of course they're willing to keep their shows on.. their ad sales go down with a massive loss of audience like that.
the only leverage directv has is to stop carriage.
i agree that the only person that really gets screwed is the viewing customer.
Shocker...I just got an email that an agreement has been reached and there won't be any service interruption. A bunch of drama about nothing. [coffee]
I just checked and FOX and SPEED are both on my TV. I knew they'd hash it out. Directv wasn't about to loose all those customers. Duh! [bang]
Rupert's just POed he doesn't own a stake in DirecTV anymore.
