Title: Helmet Color Matching?
Post by: Goat_Herder on November 03, 2011, 02:30:27 PM
Just wondering what your thoughts on matching your helmet color to the rest of your gear and bike.  As a rule of thumb, I buy my gear in the same basic black/grey/white with secondary color matching my bike.  So red S2R = black/grey jacket; Rev'it Air Jacket in White/Grey/Red; etc.  As for helmets, I have a flat black AGV and a grey Arai.  All is well.

The AGV K3 helmet caught my eyes recently, especially the black Gothic version.  It looks cool and is affordable.  But to me, the yellow looks really out of place when the rest of my gear matches to the bike.  What's your view on helmet color matching?  Carlos Checa wears a blue helmet with everything else in red and that looks kinda weird to me.  Valid question or just me being a whining pregnant dog?

If you are, you're not alone ;D

My own personal rule is that my gear must be black, red or white or any combination of the three.

Checa is doing us a favor by his strange helmet color - he's very easy to spot [thumbsup]

So I guess the answer is yes, a non-matching helmet would look tacky...  unless you are a World Superbike champion.

i think if it's a race rep helmet, it's fine on top of the standard blk/white/grey.  i love the rossi designs, but i wouldnt get one just because... well... i just dont want to be seen as too much of a rossi fanboy.  haha

I couldn't care less if my helmet or gear matches. Same goes for jacket/pants.

I reckon go with what you like. I ended up choosing a white helmet cause it gets real hot here in brissy (and my head only fits Shoei and they dont have a lot of out there designs) and I figured that along with the perception that maybe, just maybe I might be easier to see was enough to sell it! BUT hella keen on getting some whacky orange/yellow or green one when I get some extra cash.

In fact now that Im saying it I really want to get two full sets, a boy racer set and a cool retro style set too. God damn it someone gimme this weeks lucky numbers  [thumbsup]

See last 2 posts above for my opinions.  I don't care what color my gear is as long as it protects me.

I currently have a black helmet, but it's the last black helmet I will buy.  White/silver is picks up much less heat on hot sunny days.

To me, the only matching I approve of is if you have a white bike/white helmet or black bike/black helmet. Other matching looks super tacky to me, especially when leathers, helmet, bike are all the same color - it screams trying too hard.

your feedbacks are all valid.  But maybe I didn't phrase the question correctly (or maybe i did and I just don't get it).  By matching, I didn't mean that, for an example, one should ride a red bike and dress in head to toe red gears, like a red power ranger.  The question should be - other than the main black, white, and grey color in your gear, is it acceptable to mix in different "primary colors" in different pieces of your gears.

I know some of you don't mind having different primary colors mixed in with the main black/white/grey.  So would you wear a black helmet with a little blue + black/grey jacket with a little pieces of red on yellow bike?  That just seems like a clown to me.  And I apologize if that's what your riding gear combo is.

I know some people would get bend out of shape when the yellow rear shock spring doesn't match to the yellow on the Arrows logo on the cans, which doesn't match to the yellow/gold on the clutch pressure plate.  And don't you dare have yellow/gold/red/blue/black parts all on the same bike.  So where do you stand?

*It's been freezing cold and raining nonstop for weeks and it's not letting up till spring.  and I need something to entertain myself, hence this reply*

I have a red frame Monster (now) with white panels and a silver panel with red stripe.
I have black and white leathers and black and white textile gear. red rain gear
all my helmets are combinations of white/black/red.
white with red Ducati lettering
white with red stripes (red with an orange tint)
black with red and white stripes and swirls (wife has a matching black with pink and white)

When I had my first Ducati it was a Monster City in Metallic Blue
I had a Red helmet and quite frankly I used to get shit for it? so when I had it repainted to match the bike. Didn't like it as much.

I wear a Hi Viz Yellow A'Stitch jacket most of the time. My fashion sense might be broken.  [laugh]

I'm dry, warm, and people can generally see me in the dreary, wet, gray Seattle winter.  [thumbsup]

while I don't go out of my way to make sure things are perfectly matchy-matched, I don't see anything wrong with keeping all of one's gear similar.

or not.  dressing out all crazy-like probably increases your chances of being seen, which is a good thing.

I've got black gloves and boots, black pants or draggin jeans, a red/white jacket, and (now) a black lid.  which will probably be the last black lid I ever buy. It surprised me just how hot it gets during the day

Most of my gear is black, with a little bit of white. My held gloves are black with a gray palm. My helmet is silver with a little black and white trim.
