Can someone please direct me as to which wires get connected to bypass the kickstand switch? I can't seem to locate it in my manual. I'd really appreciate any help with this -- I'm tired of sitting on my bike while it warms up...

you can connect pin 2+3 but its absolut not recommended !!!
if you forget the kickstand is out you get in trouble in the next corner ! :P
better use a conversion kit ,for example our

you can rund the engine while kickstand is out and neutral gear is in, if you switch to another than neutral while kickstand is out the engine stop!
this can safe a lot of money later ;D
so be sure your modification stop the engine in case you will drive with kickstand out

I went with the El Cheapo way had it for three years no problems but don't screw up by leaving it out.
Not sure when Men lost the ability to put their kickstands up...

I forgot to put my kickstand up in 1978. I've seen others do it and the kickstand retracts as soon as it touches the pavement. I wasn't so lucky.
I ended up taking a piece of copper wire and jumping the wires at the connector (about 12" up the frame from the kickstand). Works like a charm and I didn't have to cut and splice any wires, which means I can simply take the jumper out and return to stock.
Got rid of my kickstand switch a long time ago, i made it a habit that the first thing i do when i get on the bike is to flip the stand up.Scary thought riding around with that kickstand still down.

I simply don't get it....
Thing is.. you all are complaining... but...
the suicide stand was a worst experience and the first time my '99 was ever dropped.
damn thing had a false neutral on startup. i was standing on the right side of the bike and it jumped and the kickstand flipped up.
after i got rid of the suicide with conversion bolt i forgot it one time. scared the hell out of me. i lucked out, it didn't fold but didn't crack the case or dump me.
having a safety switch to remind me... i'm not a complainer. it's easy to get distracted just once.

Hmmm, my 696 stays running in Neutral with the kickstand extended. It shuts down the engine when I shift into gear. I thought this is how all motorcycles were designed (stays running in neutral regardless of the kickstand position)? I start them like I start manual cars, I keep the clutch fully depressed.
Nope. All motorcycles in the US since 19?? had to have be equipped so you can not ride away with the sidestand down. Early Monsters came equipped with a sidestand that retracted when you took the weight off the sidestand, quickly nicknamed the Suicide Sidestand. That was replaced with the safety sidestand switch, which prevented the bike from starting or running unless the sidestand was up regardless of gear. In 2002, maybe '01 for the S4, not sure, a change was made that allowes the bike to run with the bike on the sidetand as long as the bike is neutral or the clutch is disengaged.

This is how my 1985 Cagiva runs. Kicker down, clutch engaged in neutral.
I bought a harness off of ebay that plugs right in and alows for it to start on stand but dies the second you put it in gear with stand still down. I kind of like it.

That's the way the new Monsters work. Same on my '09 Bonneville too except that you have to pull in the clutch to engage the starter.

I have a question...I have always been able to start my bike with the kick stand down...does that mean I can remove the wire/plug leading to the kick stand?

Well i asked because....the problem is that i took off the switch from the stand...traced it to the plug....and from the plug i traced the wires to the main harness...i then cut the wires close to the harness...
I am now wondering if my bike will run....it started in neutral when the kickstand down...before i cut the wire...i think one time i accidentally had it in gear and then started the bike with kickstand down...the engine shutted off right the way.
