Well since we have a posting regarding the merits and cons on the Plano dealership I thought I would post my recent experience with AMS. I need a tank replaced on my S4RS, it was approved and AMS got the tank - AMS wanted to charge $150 labor to do it - after talking to the attorneys for the class action suit who in turn spoke with Ducati NA they told me that Ducati is picking up the tab on the labor and the customer (regardless if it's in or out of warranty and if you bought the bike there) has zero cost to them. I got a completely different story from AMS only hours early today who said Duc wasn't paying for labor so I told them to ship the tank back because I would be going to Ft Worth (who said no charge) to have it done. Sure looks to me like someone is trying to line their pockets with extra $$ on warranty/good will work by getting not only Duc's $$ but the customers as well. Funny but I thought by not suing them (I would have just liked to have gotten my deductible back) when my FJR was totaled out in front of their place at their event that didn't have sufficient safe parking ;D (any attorney's know the statute of limitations?) that they might cut me a break - I will never set foot in that store on Industrial blvd again.

For every one good experience told to others, there are always 9 bad ones. I've never had anything but stellar customer service at AMS. Sorry to hear your experience wasn't up to par.
As far as your lawsuit goes.... its not worth wasting the time of our court system because you're butthurt and in a vindictive mood. There is enough of that junk going on as is.
frisco you probably left out some info. like WHO at AMS told you that you had to pay? what did DNA tell you? what did the attorney tell you?
i do agree with jester about sueing for your deductible
Unfortunately, I'm in the same situation with AMS, which makes me sad, as there are many people there that I consider friends, however business is business...
I've only had 1 experience with the dealership in Albuquerque, but the customer service was excellent. I'll be going to them for new tanks, as well as (hopefully) a Panigale.
I'm pretty sure that Jim was being sarcastic about his deductible. You read to much into that.
the absolute best dealer I have been to is Ducpond motorsports! they have the BEST customer srvice there by far. the problem is that they are in Virginia.
donnie is the man!!! one incident proved all i need to know about that man.

The lawsuit was just a joke comment (see smiley face)- if I would have been upset about that I would have addressed it back then - I was just unlucky that day - AMS had nothing to do with the idiot driving the car

I would think it takes about 15 minutes to pull the locking gas cap, fuel pump, and fuel level sensor out of a Monster tank and reinstall them in a new one. I could be missing something, though.
Here are few links I have found helpful for the expanding tank issue:
Everyone is using this stuff on their Acerbis plastic tanks to good effect:
http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm (http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm)
Or use this stuff: http://www.k100fueltreatment.com/ (http://www.k100fueltreatment.com/)
Or this stuff: http://mystarbrite.com/startron/ (http://mystarbrite.com/startron/)
But you have to use fuel stabilizers religiously...
You might also sign up for the class action suit, http://girardgibbs.com/ducati.asp (http://girardgibbs.com/ducati.asp), which is working to get 2003-2011 Ducati owners extended warranties on their plastic tanks.
Acerbis makes plastic tanks for Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, etc. Just keep in mind, it's not the fault of the plastic, which works without issue in the Eurozone - it's the hydrophilic ethanol mandated in US fuel distributed to urban areas. There are alternatives:

doesn't matter who the manufacturer of the specific part is. the responsibility lies with the name on the product. not like people sued texas instruments when the cruise deactivation switches were catching fire. they sued ford because they are the one's responsible to the public. ford had to go after T.I. to get their money back.

By that reasoning, I guess these guys are responsible for the ethanol that causes the Acerbis plastic tanks to swell:

OMG John. Have you no clue? I wont discuss this on the board but will gladly share with you the "finer" points of economics and the who.
Don't be so quick to point out my obvious lack of clues. :)
I was only attempting to reduce Chris' argument with an absurd analogy of our favorite motorcycle brand to the oil cos. Of course, no one is compelling Ducati to use product components of a particular type. You can't say that of the companies who sell us gas. Being any more direct would take this thread to the very place you mention, and to which we have been warned we must not go. [leo]
ok ok but we will still have that talk tomorrow. ;D
