Saw this on ducati.ms in the sportclassic forum. People were wondering there if this can be an option for monster/sf tanks too. If they can make a solid monster tank in AL for $300... I can basically see every member of this board picking one up without blinking.
plastic expanding tank replacement what?!?!?!?
The description on the sale says the tank is made to order and ships out a couple weeks after the order. Might be worth getting in touch to see if they would do monsters and other more modern fitments.
some people from ducati.ms are looking into it now... one guy is based in india and looking to try to contact them.
I was at a British/European classic motorcyle show last spring. There was a Chinese vendor selling hand made aluminum tanks for Nortons. The guy there couldn't really speak English, but I asked him about tanks for other bikes and he shook his head yes.
I'm in. For $300 he77 yeah. An alloy tank would be cool even if there wasn't a problem with the original.
^ This! I'll take one for the wife's monster, one for my TLS and heck one for the H1 too at that price (the buell already has an aluminum "tank").
Note, reserve is not met at $300, for all we know reserve is $3,000
I spoke to the manufacturer a while ago and he quoted me $600 for the tank and $185 for the seat. Shipping about another $200. No Monster tanks available.
I'd need to see closer images of the welds. And filler neck.
I don't have any reservation about where these would be made, but I'd like to know about the alloy and craftsmanship. Leaking welds or work-hardening wouldn't be fun after a few years either.
Interesting alternative to Ducati NA's proposal.
none of the offerings are for bikes with fuel pumps. its much more difficult to have an even mounting surface for a fuel pump then to put in a bung for a petcock.
monster tanks also have a fair amount of variation under the tank for airbox and battery variations. It would take a lot of work on their end to figure out what space would be needed to fit the largest amount of tanks without diminishing capacity of the tank too much.
the only way I can imagine it being done on a grand scale would be to make a middle ground shape that would fit a bunch of bikes with interchangeable plates to mount the various fuel pumps. the best way to do it would be to sell it in conjunction with TPO's beast kit to get the most volume out of it as well as reduce the variation between models.
if I was having one made I would also switch to a speedcell or similar mini battery and make a new bracket for the ECU/battery to get even more volume. probably wouldnt make it look like a stock tank either...
maybe its time to call this guy... (http://www.wilcoxmetal.com/)
