I've been looking for a rugged pocket camera too.  I had been looking at the Olympus, but the Nikon you mentioned seems pretty workable.  We have about half a dozen various Nikons so it might be a good fit.

Out of all the reviews I've seen on rugged pocket cameras, I have yet to see totally happy owners.  I think we will have to accept some lower level of performance to get the necessary ruggedness.

I might see if I can acquire one of those Nikons.

ofcourse everyones expectations may vary. its never going to as nice of a picture as something like a canon powershot S series. thats te best point and shoot i think. so if that is a 10, the picture quality ive seen, is best by nikon then panny, then  olympus.

the panny is the fastest of them all
but the nikon seems the most rugged.

What were your issues with Olympus.  My last Olympus experience was 35 years ago and was pretty positive but that was a long time ago.

ive bought 3 of their cameras  3 years apart on new egg, the camera would always have some sort of issue. the colors would be all jacked up like i was looking in a rainbow room, or the LCD wouldnt turn on, or the battery wouldnt hold a charge. my canon powershots have been dropped, rained up on more than one occassion, ive gotten sand in the lens, and a whole bunch of other crap and it still ticks, just wont turn on from time to time, but ive had that thing for over 3 years now. pictures are still amazing.
